Figuring out where you retire can be a little bit easier, because you won’t have to worry about getting a job wherever you are, but you definitely want to keep your finances in mind. That’s why I have compiled a list of some of the best places you can retire around the world that will work well with your budget. I will warn you that this list may not be for everyone, because these places aren’t going to be located anywhere in the United States.
Nha Trang, Vietnam
If you want to live in Asia, you should definitely consider Nha Trang, Vietnam, because it has one of the lowest cost of livings in all of Southeast Asia or even the world, for that matter. This place is very welcoming and they love it when new Westerners move in. Even if you’re new to Asia, the locals will make sure you feel comfortable. Retirement here will give you the best of both worlds, because it can be a very exciting place to live, but it can also be a very peaceful place to live. You can hang out on the beach or you can escape to the mountains for a hiking expedition. It’s completely and totally up to you.
Chiang Rai, Thailand
Chiang Rai actually has a population of less than 100,000 people and it offers up some things that you’re just not going to get in bigger cities. There’s not much traffic, the air is clean and the population is very friendly. This is a place you want to go if you love natural beauty and landscapes, because you will find some amazing forests, waterfalls, hot springs, etc… If you’re someone that absolutely loves a view that will take your breath, you’ll fall in love with Chiang Rai.
Ipoh, Malaysia
Ipoh is the place that a lot of Malaysian natives have decided to retire at, because they believe that the relaxing type of life you will encounter in Ipoh can actually increase your life expectancy. The air here is clean and the water is very relaxing. Even though Ipoh has a popular of over 500,000 people, you will find that it somehow maintain a nice, small town vibe. You won’t have to worry about fighting your way through crowds of people or tons of traffic. The locals are very friendly and also speak English, so it’s definitely a very retirement-friendly place.
Dumaguete, Philippines
The people in Dumaguete are very friendly and they speak English, which makes things a whole lot easier. In Dumaguete, you’ll fall in love with the warm, tropical air and there are plenty of things to do if you enjoy getting outside and enjoying nature. For instance, you could take advantage of world-class diving opportunities and go snorkeling with some whales or dolphins.
