5 Tips for Saving on Health Care Expenses

Health care is one of the biggest expenses a family deals with.  Between the monthly cost of insurance to the costs at the pharmacy and even your doctor’s office co-pay, healthcare costs can take a huge chunk out of your budget.   It doesn’t have to break you though. There are some things that you can do to save on your health care expenses.

  • Consider a higher deductible.  Choosing a higher deductible will likely save you money on your monthly insurance bill.  That being said, do not always choose the higher deductible plan to save money. If you have more doctor’s visits or you have health issues that you are concerned about, you can end up paying more out of pocket this way.

 

  • Read over your healthcare policy. Make sure that you are knowledgeable with your policy before you make healthcare decisions.  For example, you need to be sure to go to a doctor that is covered under your plan in order to pay less.

 

  • Exercise.  Oh, I know you are tired of hearing about it, but you need to be exercising in order to save money on your healthcare!  The healthier you are, the less you go to the doctor. Also, the healthier you are, the less your health insurance rates will be.  Exercising more will likely make you far healthier.
  • Ask for generic prescriptions.  If you use prescription medications, you can ask for the generic versions of the medicines to save a lot of money.
  • Eat a healthy diet.  A healthy diet can make a huge difference in your health.  Similar to exercise, your diet can make a tremendous difference in your health.  It can help to prevent high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and more.
