Over the years I have saved money on groceries for different reasons. Originally, I simply wanted to save money on groceries, so that way my husband and I could pay off some of the debts that we had accumulated. Now, all of our debts have been paid off, which feels amazing and we can spend a bit more money, but we still keep a grocery budget that keeps us within our means.
I have also learned how important it is to eat healthy foods over the years. Nutrition is extremely important to me, so I usually try to get whole foods, which can be a bit more expensive. Now, it doesn’t matter what your reasons may be for needing to save money on your grocery bill, I’m going to help you save some cash. Below are some tips for saving money on your grocery bill.
#1. Create a Menu
It’s important that you create a menu. Now, you’re probably wondering how this will save you money, but it’s actually pretty simple. Having a menu will make you aware of the items you already have, so you don’t go out and purchase things you already have at home. Also, having a menu allows you to know what you’ll be eating every single day of the week. That way, a day doesn’t come up where you don’t know what to make for dinner, so you opt for fast food instead.
Making a menu may seem like a big chore at first, but it will save you time and money in the long run. You’ll save money, because you’re not buying excess items and you’ll save time at the grocery store, because you know exactly what you need to get.
#2. Take Advantage of the Coupons on Our Website
We have a ton of coupons that will help you save money, so why not print them out and take them to the store with you? You’ll be amazed at how much money you can save with just a handful of coupons.
#3. Don’t Throw Away Junk Mail
I know it sucks when you reach your hand in your mailbox only to pull out a stack of junk mail, but you shouldn’t throw it away indiscriminately. Instead, you should look through the junk mail and see if there’s anything you can use to your advantage. I’ve came across some amazing deals and coupons in junk mail. Last week I came across an amazing coupon for toothpaste which was already on sale at the store, so I used the coupon to get free toothpaste.
#4. Buy Blocks of Cheese
It can be tempting to purchase cheese that has already been cut the way you like it, but when you buy cut cheese, you’re not only paying for the product itself, but you’re paying for the person to cut the cheese for you (no pun intended). I would suggest buying blocks of cheese and cutting it how you like it on your own. It only takes a few minutes and can save you some money.
#5. Buy Meat at Discount Prices
Most grocery stores have a discount section where they put meat that has been marked down. Typically, this section is reserved for meat that needs to be used fairly soon, because the expiration date is coming up. Meat goes into these discount areas more often than you’d think and for excellent prices.
