Summer is rapidly approaching and I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m definitely ready to go on a nice, summer vacation. I’m sure you could probably figure that one out, because I’ve been posting up a good bit of topics lately on summer vacations and how you can save money on them. Today, I’m going to talk about how you can save money on hotel rooms, because lodging is typically one of the most expensive aspects of any summer vacation. Scroll down and you’ll find some tips on how to save cash on hotel rooms.
#1. Call for Rates
It’s important that you call up each hotel you’re interested in and check their rates. Do not call the 1-800 number if the hotel is part of a chain. Instead, you will want to call the hotel directly and ask them about their rates and see if they’re willing to beat out the rates of their competitors. Chances are, you’ll at least get them to match the rates of their competitors, but they will also throw in some extras.
#2. Ask About Fees
Some hotels will charge fees for certain amenities. Therefore, it’s important that you ask about all included fees. For instance, some hotels will say that they offer wi-fi, but then you find out once you’ve checked in that you have to pay for the service. Also, you’ll want to ask them about parking accommodations, because parking can cost you a ton of money. Asking about all the fees in advance will give you an idea of how much you’re going to pay for your stay there.
#3. Check Out Smaller Hotels
A lot of smaller hotels can’t be found online, because they don’t want to pay for placement on major hotel searching websites. Therefore, when you call them up, you’ll usually be speaking with an owner or manager of the hotel. In other words, you’ll likely be talking with someone that has the power to authorize discounts, etc…
#4. Use Coupon Books
While on your vacation, you’ll surely stop at plenty of restaurants, rest areas and hotels. These places always have coupon books somewhere in the establishment and I highly suggest that you pick one up. There are some amazing deals in these coupons books that you likely won’t find anywhere else. I’ve found some amazing coupons for local hotels in coupon books. Also, you’ll find excellent deals on entertainment while you’re on vacation.
#5. Be Careful When Paying in Advance
Some hotels will require you to pay for a room in advance. If this is the case, you need to make sure you get all of the info and read the fine print. Some hotels will charge you a cancellation fee if you have to cancel your stay for whatever reason, so be careful.
#6. Take Advantage of Travel Packages
Are you going to a specific destination? If so, a travel package may be your best bet. Typically, you can save a ton of money by purchasing a travel package that include airfare, lodging, rental car, etc…
