If you’re ready to give this a valiant effort, I’m going to lay out some tips for you that should make the whole quitting smoking process a lot easier for you. Scroll down and let’s get started.
Why Do You Want to Quit Smoking?
It’s important that you come up with a valid reason as to why you want to quit smoking. Do you want to be able to get out and play with your kids without gasping for air? Do you want to increase your life expectancy, so you can live longer for your children? Maybe you just don’t want to risk having secondhand smoke around your kids. Either way, you need to come up with a powerful reason as to why you’re quitting, so it will help you resist the urge to spark up.
Going Cold Turkey isn’t the Best Decision
It can be tempting to get ultra-motivated one day and toss all of your cigarettes in the trash can; vowing to never touch them again. However, 95% of people that end up quitting cold turkey will suffer a relapse, because nicotine is highly addictive and your brain wants it. If you want to quit, you should seek out some sort of therapy or medication to help you kick the habit.
Tell Your Friends and Family
It’s important that you tell your friends and family that you’re going to quit smoking. That way, you’re a little more motivated not to eat your words. Plus, they will provide support for you.
Join a Support Group
Quitting smoking on your own can be a pretty hard task. Consider joining a group of other people that are trying to quit smoking.
Rid Yourself of Stress
A lot of people smoke cigarettes, because of all the stressful situations they encounter in life. Now, since you’ve stopped smoking, you’re going to have to look for alternative ways of dealing with stress. Consider taking yoga classes, learning how to meditate, going to a peaceful spa, listening to peaceful music, etc.. Whatever helps you avoid stress and puts you in a better mood.
Avoid Alcohol
Alcohol is a major trigger for smokers, because most people love to smoke a cigarette while they drink. Therefore, you should probably avoid alcohol for a decent bit of a time, so you don’t end up being tempted to puff on a cigarette.
