5 Tips for Getting Your Car Ready for the Cooler Weather

I know that we have recently talked about Winterizing your home and the steps that you can take to get that done, but did you know that you should do the same thing for your car? That’s right! Your car needs help during the Winter time too! If you have no idea where to begin here are 5 tips for getting your car ready for the cooler Winter did you can implement now to save yourself some trouble this Winter.

  • Take it in for an oil change. This is just a good time to remember to do your regularly scheduled maintenance, plus while your you are there the mechanics will likely tell you if anything else is wrong before you take it out on the cold Winter roads.
  • Check your tires.  When the roads are icy and snowy, is when you need all of the traction you can get. Make sure to see how much traction you have left on your tires and consider getting studded tires or Winter rated traction tires
  • Have your battery tested. The cold morning starts are really hard on your battery, that is why the wintertime is when you will most often have to deal with replacing dead batteries. Take your car into an auto parts store, or a tire and lube shop to have your battery tested.
  • Check your antifreeze levels. Before the cold weather hits is the best time to check the anti-freeze levels in your car. If you leave your car with not enough, you may find that the water inside your engine will freeze the water in your motor and break the entire thing.
  • Invest in Winter chains. This is a safety issue.  f you live in an area that receives a fair amount of snow, or if you plan to travel in the snow you really need to invest in a pair of Winter chains. I do recommend looking on the Facebook marketplace or other thrift and resale sites. Otherwise, you go to any major retailer or tire shop, etc to find a pair that will fit your vehicle.
