Wouldn’t life be much easier if there was no dirty laundry to worry about? This is a question I ask myself every Sunday, our laundry day. In reality, I should not complain about laundry at all as I have a wonderful husband who mostly takes care of it. But getting through 4 loads of laundry or more every Sunday takes a team effort.
As my children get older I notice our laundry struggles only get bigger:
- Clothes are dirtier and the stains seem harder to get out
- more clothes to clean AND fold AND put away
- Clothes to IRON!
Laundry is definitely a non-enjoyable chore for us. I wish I could say we have found a way to deal with our struggles but we are still working on them. Luckily our son is getting old enough that he can help sort and put away some of his own laundry. We are dealing with dirtier clothes and stains by choosing the right cycle to wash clothes and by pre-treating stains. I wish there was a solution that made ironing disappear though. But the only thing I have heard that helps is getting a clothes steamer. I am still saving money for that. Maybe I can use some Swagbucks to get it via Amazon. Any recommendations?
Because most everyone struggles with the laundry, Collective Bias and Clorox recently asked a group of moms, myself included, for their tips in handling the laundry. All of these tips plus those from laundry experts have been collected and used to create the Complete the Cycle Laundry Regimen Guide. You can access and view this Laundry Guide for FREE. It’s full of valuable information and I hope you will find it as useful as I have.
Since most everyone needs help with laundry, Clorox has provided me with five laundry kits to give away on my blog in hopes to make the winners’ laundry regimen easier. This is what these kits contain:

i can get my laundry washed and dried no problem. my struggle is with getting it put away. right now i’ve got 3 weeks worth of clean laundry sitting in baskets on my closet floor. i do like to see all my clothes organized and put away so that motivates me sometimes but not every week.

As a mom of 8 month old twins…I struggle with getting formula and baby food stains out. What I’ve found works best is Awesome (from the Dollar Tree). I spray and then run it through the soak cycle and then through a regular cycle again. Its a big process but it works great.
laundry is my one nemisis!! One thing that helps is that I try to do several loads at once. If I did 1 lost a day, it wouldnt get put away.
Another tip I have, is my 8yr old daughter starts, rotates, and unloads them on my bed. Then it get done since I have to sleep at night right?! lol
I can get the laundry done, but the stains someti,es don’t always come out. and my kids spill everything on themselves!!!
thanks for the entry!!!
I’m with Carrie! Putting it away is definetly the hardest part for our family too! When I do the laundry, I usually attempt to put it away load by load, which seems to help. My husband will do all the laundry, throw it on a heap on our bed and THEN attempt to put it away! I think it’s much more intimidating that way!
I can’t believe you just posted this–right as I’m working on the laundry and trying my best to have a good attitude about it. It is a major struggle for us. I don’t mind putting clothes in the washer, but I hate the folding/putting away part.
When I actually fold one load of laundry, it doesn’t take that long. But it’s still a struggle to make myself start. Lately, I’m trying to focus on getting the clothes out of the dryer as soon as they’re done–and hanging them up. The kit sure would come in handy. Thanks, Mercedes!
I agree with Carrie- I don’t mind washing, drying, or even hanging- it is the putting away. My husband and I try to take turns putting away so we can relieve each other- can’t wait until the boys are old enough to help put away!

I am one of those people who actually loves to fold clothes. The rest of the laundry duties, not so much, but folding clothes? I love it. My tip would just be to fold clothes in front of the tv so it doesn’t seem like a chore.
My laundry struggle is actually an external factor. My washer/dryer is in the basement with…cave crickets! Eek! They freak me out to no end since they are like huge, jumping spiders. So it is hard to enjoy doing laundry when I know those creepies are around, lol!
My only struggle is ironing. I hate it!

OMG! I HATE laundry and my husband is constantly changing clothes. I have way more laundry to do than any person should. It’s never caught up! I don’t really have a tip or trick besides, shut the door & don’t look at it..lol, but that’s not really getting the job done!

Definitely the putting the clothes away is what kills me. I have a large pile of clean folded clothes sitting on my bed right now. I know what you mean, Carrie!
My biggest struggle has been getting baseball dirt and grass out of uniforms. It seems like I have to wash the uniform at least twice using bleach, lestoil and clicking my heels three times, crossing my fingers and praying. 🙂

I have no problems doing the laundry. My biggest concern is stains and ways to get them out.
I dislike putting the clothes away once they are dry…I struggle to do it right away (which is when they are the least wrinkled).
I tweeted https://www.twitter.com/centsablemomma. I still haven’t figured out how to send you directly to the tweet :-(.
I told my husband when we first got married that I have no idea how to iron and I don’t intend to learn! 10 years later he is still doing the ironing!
My most recent laundry struggle is due to potty training. Everyday my little one comes home with bags full of “soaked” garments. I don’t have enough to really run a full load, but what should I do with bags of urine saturated clothes in the meantime?
Still struggling with this one, and ideas would be welcome!
HA—I love that other people are the same as me and I am not the only one! I HATE putting laundry away, I cant stand it! It will sit in piles on top of my dryer until my husband gets sick of not having any underwear and then he finally puts it away 🙂

I get the laundry done and fold it and my little ones love to help so I end up folding 2 or 3 times. So the part I hate the most is putting it away.
My struggle is keeping up with it – between my 3 kids, myself and hubby, plus towels, sheets and cloth diapers, it gets overwhelming. I try to stick to a schedule of doing 1 load a day so it doesnt feel like I spend a whole day doing it. Even though I end up doing laudnry almost everyday, at least it’s only for a little bit in the morning.
Great giveaway!
I don’t have enough closet room… So clothes pile up and get wrinkled. Very discouraging…
I really need to be better about doing laundry. If I sorted my clothes right away I would probably better about it. As it is when I do laundry I put a load in and then leave the second in the middle of the hall so that I remember I’m doing laundry!
My biggest laundry struggle is a 3 year old who tosses his shirts and shorts into the laundry hamper as soon as they get a spot of even water on them.
julieadp at gmail
Right now it is just my husband and me, so one of my struggles is having enough whites to do a load before we run out of white clothing 🙂
Something I think will be a challenge once we have kids (and therefore more laundry) is the fact that our washer and dryer are stacked in a closet in a hallway. There’s no room to set anything down or even for a laundry basket. It’s not really an issue now since I only do laundry once a week, but it could definitely cause problems in the future!
My struggle is folding the laundry. I seem to have no trouble starting it, but then it just piles up on the playroom floor…getting more wrinkled!
Laundry is a never ending cycle in our house. My children seem to outgrow it before it is clean 🙂
My biggest struggle has to do with living in a hot climate (Phoenix!) where the cold water is hot, the electricity rates are high during the day, and laundry can’t sit in the washer awaiting the dryer…
I limit my kiddos’ PJ usage- they must be worn 3 times before getting a new pair. This saves a TON of time with 4 kiddos!! Same goes for towels! It’s a win for mom (laundry, time, etc) and a win for the kids (less to clean up, manage, put away)..
Allie
The worst part to me is ironing…I HATE it, it’s like adding a second chore on top of the first. So I try to buy mostly wrinkle-free clothes and take them out as soon as the dryer goes off, while they’re still hot and unwrinkled. If I can’t I’ll put the dryer on tumble for a few minutes to warm them up, but that never does the trick as well as taking them out fresh.
I Tweeted: https://twitter.com/FrugalFemina/status/3456919568
I have found that if I fold/hang each load when it comes out of the dryer and put it in piles on the kitchen table, I am more apt to put it all away at once. I make the pile according to what goes away together. (Shirts with shirts, jeans with jeans, pjs with pjs) Then all I have to do is pick up a pile, and put it in the drawer that it goes. I also can’t try to focus on anything else. I can’t clean AND do laundry. If I only have one day I will do laundry in the morning while I lounge and have coffee, and clean later in the afternoon. The thing I hate, hate, hate is folding socks. It’s just annoying!
I Facebooked. https://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Frugal-Femina/108536033955?ref=sgm
I don’t put stuff away because there is too much in the dressers already. Mostly it just sits in the dryer getting wrinkly.
My biggest struggle is finding a PLACE to fold laundry for a family of five.

My struggle comes when is time to fold and put away clothes…
I actually enjoy DOING laundry…I just loathe folding it and putting it away! I use my bed to fold my laundry…that way, I don’t have to worry about folding in our super-small laundry room. I do laundry once a week. 🙂
My struggle is getting the kids to remember that dirty clothes go in the hamper. My oldest son gathers the laundry from 2 hampers into 1. What I don’t like is doing a load of laundry and then finding dirty clothes on the floor or left in a hamper because they were never gathered.
My struggle is that it gets through the wash and it doesn’t get to the dryer promptly. I get caught up with other housework.
My washer and dryer are in my basement so I often don’t hear when a load is done. My dryer doesn’t have a buzzer 🙁 I like doing laundry in the summer because I like hanging clothes out on my line!
My struggle is the folding! We moved into a house a year ago and it doesn’t have any hanging bar closets. I have to fold everything and it is so time consuming!
I’ve started folding the clothes on top of the dryer as I take them out. This seems to help a lot.

I have a very hard time keeping up with FOLDING laundry! To help I try to fold things as I take them out of the dryer–if I put them in a laundry basket they tend to stay there for a very long time!
It seems like more and more often stains aren’t coming out like they used to… I try to fold and put away each load as it comes out so there won’t be such an overwhelming amount if I wait until it is all done.
My best tip is to buy a washer and dryer in one unit. I have 6 kids to I don’t hear the little beep when everything is done. This way is washes and dries all I have to do is fold and put away.
I blogged about it here
https://marylandsavings.blogspot.com/2009/08/fun-giveaway-complete-cycle.html
I dont mind doing it, I do not like to fold towels, and my son changes like a girl LOL So I never can get it done
I don’t particularly enjoy doing laundry, but I get a great sense of satisfaction when there’s none waiting to be done. The thing that has worked the best for me is not to take it out of the dryer if I can’t fold it and put it away right away. I have a hanging bar over my washer, and a top load washer so I hang things on the bar, and fold and stack on the washer. Doing it this way makes me put it away before I can toss the next load into the dryer, and therefore avoid the inevitable pile of clothes waiting to be folded. And when the hubby says he has no clean clothes I just ask if he needs me to draw him a map to the laundry room. 🙂
The best tip I can give is to do it before it piles up. For me it is the only way to keep sane while dealing with health issues. I have a smaller family so it’s easier. But if you have a larger family I think it’s important to teach your children how to help in this area (as well as other chores too). Even little ones can learn to pick up clothes and learn how to fold and put away. It’s not a crime either to have one’s dh to help once in a while. I believe that each family member needs to do their part as a team.
The biggest struggle is the amount of time it takes to complete the job.
My biggest struggle is folding the laundry…if I can ever remember to take it out of the dryer!
I have trouble remembering to separate out delicates and whites.
My struggle is feeling like I am always doing laundry. I have designated Mon and Thurs. laundry days which helps but then I don’t finish folding and putting away so it feels like I’m never done with laundry. Baby steps I guess!
I don’t mind doing laundry (I hate putting away clean dishes). I keep it mostly under control by doing it all one day, usually Mondays. Everyone knows Monday is laundry day (for clothes) and kind of plans accordingly. I do other loads like towels and little kid clothes throughout the week, but the bulk in one day. That way, it’s done until the next week.
Thanks!
KellyH
There’s only my husband and me but we have so much laundry. I’m not sure why! I do almost as much laundry now as when our girls were in high school. Seems like every other day I’m washing another load. Sure would enjoy some of these “helps.”
There is constantly MORE laundry to do. PLus with one child potty training (we went cold turkey and not using Pull-ups) there is even MORE laundry to do. Laundry to me is the mos defeating chore, but we all must have clean clothes. 🙂 Great giveaway!
I hate the stains. Even when I use tide stain release, they didn’t come out.
I don’t mind sorting, washing and drying the laundry, but I am like most: my problem is getting it folded. It usually helps if I just take the time to fold it as I pull it out of the dryer, that way I only have 1 load to fold, not 3 or 4!
I struggle with getting a “flow” going from the laundry piles around the house to the laundry room into the washer and then back to the right rooms. It seems no matter where or how many hampers/baskets I leave around the house, someone’s important shirt/pants/etc. gets missed and I and up needing to run the extra water-wasting load.
I live in an apartment, so my washer & dryer are not full-size. I went from doing all of my laundry in two hours at the laundry mat to being able to do only a half load at a time. I try to run one load each day in order to keep up with the piles. And, if I run it at the same time as my shower, I don’t spend as long under the hot water because the hot runs out faster!
I shared on Facebook as well.
Finding the time to get down in the basement without the one year old!! If I get down there once a day I’m doing good!!
As clothes get dirty I put them in the washing machine and when the load is full, I start it. This helps me to get the pre-treating of stains done as well. It might also help that my washing machine is located in my 1st floor bathroom close to the kitchen and family room though.
I have a couple things that I just can’t get out of my kids clothes. One of them is I think grease spots on my son’s sweat pants. I have tried a couple of things but I can’t get them out. I just love when my older kids throw things in the wash too without telling you about a stain. Still training them to take it right to the laundry room. 🙂
I don’t mind doing laundry. I handle the laundry on my days off and my husband does it on his days off. Although, I hate putting it away. I will go every morning to the laundry room to get some clothes for the day when it would be easier to put it all away.
One to two loads a day keeps us caught up. We have 2 year old quadruplets and a 7 month old. Laundry is neverending!
My biggest problem is time between work and everything else. I don’t mind doing it when I have the time. It’s one of those mindless tasks that I can zone out while doing.
SOCKS! I always end up with a basket of socks when all the other laundry is said and done that I just can’t get motivated to match up. That is another reason I love summer…more sandles, less socks!
I have 4 little boys and a TON of laundry! I try to keep my laundry room clean, neat and well stocked. It helps to make the laundry easier of I have stain treatment, hangers, folding baskets, etc, readily available in a clean working space.
With 4 girls and a set of twins, socks and bra sorting is a real pain. Or I should say was, until I assigned us each a lingerie bag w/our name on it and we sort those personal items into that and then wash in our own bag. Saves hours off sorting, arguing and wondering where those lost socks disappeared to!!!!
We don’t have an in laundry unit… so my struggle is finding the right time to do it with my baby!
I love the feeling of completing all of my weekly laundry, usually between 3 and 5 loads. The struggle comes when I sit down in relief and look at the basket minutes after finishing it all to see it has already started to pile up again!! I swear my two boys and husband must change 20 times per day!!
My biggest problem is tomato stains! I do enjoy hanging out the wash in summer. It saves electricity, buys me some time with stains I missed, and somehow relaxes me. I fold it as I take it off the line and it’s all done! ( Well, except for the putting away.)
I make homemade laundry detergent (found recipe on amfrugal.blogspot.com). I also leave hangers right next to the dryer so that when the clothes are finished drying, I can immediately hang up anything that I am worried about getting wrinkles (since the rest of it can sit for several days before getting folded!).
I live in a condo without a washer & dryer. My problem comes when I have to carry my laundry out of my house and into either a family member’s house or laundromat. I have tried different bags and baskets, but it nevers seems to go smoothly.
I have a small house and no where to store the laundry until it is ready to be washed.
My problem is that I always find some weird stains on my clothes after they’ve been thru the dryer. “How’d that get there?” And how will I get rid of it.
I tend to get started, then forget that I have something in the washer. I’ve started leaving the door open to the laundry room until the washer is empty so that I don’t end up with smelly clothes!
definitely getting it all put away
Laundry struggles….bleach is a huge problem for us. Ugh.
My laundry struggle came when I married my husband. He’s an avid soccer player and always comes home with grass, dirt, and blood stains- a new challenge for a clean girl like me. I’ve learned the wondors of pre-treating and letting stains soak.
My biggest laundry struggles is getting stains out. I just can not get it figured out right. 🙁 Plus, just keeping up with the laundry. . there is always something else I can find to do first.
I don’t have one part that I run into problems. If I remember to get them in the wash, I forget to dry, having to rewash. If I get them in the dryer, it’s getting them folded. Sometimes I even have problems getting them in the dirty clothes bin. My solution is to get rid of clothes. Less clothes means less dirty means less to wash means less to fold and put away. My other tip is to quit having kids. LOL.
I keep my laundry washed and dried but that’s where the difficulty arises. I HATE folding and putting away so I end up with baskets sitting around. To conquer this, during the summer, I have the kids fold it (HaHa) and during the school year I do one load at a time from start to finish. Even though I often only get one load done a day, I feel more productive because the basketfuls aren’t sitting around.
I tweeted! @FrugalFraulein
I can’t keep up with my laundry! It seems like it’s all I get done doing.
My worst feeling towards my laundry is the pile of dirtys that pile up in the corner of the bedroom and the bathroom… Then I move the mountain to the stairs.

As a mom of a potty training two year old and an mess making 8 month old, we do enough laundry to cloth a small army. My potty training 2 year old often goes two 2-4 (sometimes more) outfits per day. I try to do atleast one or two loads per day, and then catch everything else up on laundry day (Tuesday) when my grandmother, my children’s great grandmother, comes over to give me a helping hand. This means there are always baskets of clothes needing to be folded or ironed, but it keeps me from doing 10+ loads in one day, and gives me the option to wash clothes with major messes the same day the mess was made. I currently use homemade laundry soap to save money, so I would love to have this wonderful giveaway to switch things up for a while!
I hate ironing! Both my husband and I work, so there are always dress shirts and slacks that need ironing, and I’ve found if I don’t iron right after doing the laundry, I let it sit there for a few days, and then everything is even more wrinkled…
I have a set day (Monday) when I do all the laundry. When folding the clothes, I have four different laundry baskets—one for each of us. This makes putting away so much easier. My husband and older son put their own away, so all I have to worry about is myself and the little one.
I blogged about this giveaway at https://seesnappsave.wordpress.com/2009/08/22/complete-the-cycle-giveaway-common-sense-with-money/
I do my laundry on the weekend but the biggest challenge is getting the laundry folded and put away. When DH was deployed overseas, my kids would just take clean clothes from the basket since they were separated into different baskets! Sometimes if I didn’t get the clothes put away, I would have not choice when the weekend arrived since I needed the baskets!
I tweeted @EmilyESnapp
Laundry is the first “chore” my son helped with. Starting about 18 months, I’d get him to help me move the clothes from the washer to the dryer. I put them on the door and he pushes them in. He loves it! Although sometimes it does take longer since he tries to also close the door before I’m done loading. Also, now at age 2, he “helps” me unload by taking a few things from the dryer to his room – blanket to his crib, socks, pjs (just stuff that doesn’t have to be folded or hung). He’s so proud of himself for helping!
My biggest struggle is stains. I pretreat them before I wash them, but if they don’t come out, I will soak them with some OxiClean and that will usually clear them up.
Like many others, my struggle is to get the laundry folded and put away. We end up with mountains of laundry on the floor in our bedroom and have to go diving through piles to find clothing. I keep telling myself that in our next house, I’ll have a more organized laundry room 🙂 But, when I do manage to put it away, it’s a wonderful feeling! Unfortunately, it’s always back within a matter of a couple days.
I actually don’t hate laundry. It doesn’t seem like a chore to me. Maybe that will change as my family grows. My biggest laundry struggle is keeping things from looking worn out. Here’s a laundry tip my mom gave me: When you wash your white things, put the dirtiest things in first (probably socks) and put them through a rinse cycle. then add the rest of your white stuff to do the regular cycle. This will help your whites stay truly white instead of grayish.
I love my laundry sorter on wheels. It has 3 sections, which I use to separate whites, lights, & darks. Saves time sorting and also I can see when I have accumulated enough for a full load to save on energy used.
Stains are my biggest problem. I have a large bucket (used to hold wheat kernels) that I use to soak stained items. I find that if I get them soaking very soon after the stain has been made, the stains usually come out great. I just soak in water and my laundry detergent.
As far as folding – I try to get my 4 little ones involved. They usually like to sort and fold their own clothes, and even put them away!
My biggest laundry struggle is getting stains out. A couple of the best tips I’ve gotten for stains are 1) when putting a stained item of clothing in the hamper tie a knot in it, that way it’s harder to pass up and more likely to get pre-treatment 2) to get yucky shirt collar stains out – use shampoo!
when i cook or wash the dirty dishes, i always end up with grease stains on my front. Pretreating those with dish soap works pretty good.
when i have something that has to be ironed, i wash as usual, throw it in the dryer with everything else for 5 minutes, then hang it on a plastic hanger in my laundry room. looks like you ironed it, you might have to give the collar a once over, or some small wrinkle, but it cuts the work big time. this also works great to hang clothes outside in sunny weather.
when i was a kid, my mom alway said that if we were going to watch tv, we were going to fold our own laundry at the same time. even the littlest of us could match socks. my only child is only 1 yr, but she’s probably going to hear the same from me : )
we also wear pj’s multiple times and use bath towels multiple times. at least 2x usually. if you only use towels when you have just cleaned, and take baths right before bed and don’t eat in your pj’s, then how dirty can they have gotten? especially in the winter when getting hot and sweating in your jammies isn’t an issue.
anyway, i’m a subscriber and love your blog! thanks for the giveaway!
i wish i had some routine..i really need one :/ my routine is to put it off until last minute i guess?
My least favorite part is dragging all the laundry downstairs to do it and then lugging it all back up again to get it put away! Then there’s figuring out how to get out stains, remembering to put the wash in the dryer, remembering to turn the dryer on, and then trying to fold it while I watch the kids…
The only thing that works for me is setting aside a day each week and making laundry my main focus/goal.
My biggest struggle is getting the clean clothes put away! I am just trying very hard to be more disciplined about getting them put away as soon as they’re folded.
With a family of five I have to wash everyday. I have a 3 bin sorted in the laundry room (1 for whites, 1 for light and dark hot water clothes and 1 for light and dark cold water clothes). I sort and wash a load of laundry everyday. I can usually put all the light and dark hot water clothes in one cycle and all the light and dark cold water clothes in another cycle, with the help of a cloth that is made by Shout called “Color Catcher”. The clothes don’t get discolored or fade into each other when Color Catcher is added. So I am usually able to get my laundry done faster. I have the kids all fold and put away their own clothes so I am only left with mine and my husbands. This take less than 30 minutes to do (not including the washing and drying cycles).
I struggle with getting my husband to sort his laundry into the right bins. We have a three basket laundry bin and he just can’t seem to get socks and undies in one bin, towels in the other etc. I don’t think it’ll change so instead I keep a separate basket to resort the clothes into before dragging them to the washer. Sigh!!!
i have two boys, age 4 and 11 months. at the end of the day, i can’t tell which is dirtier, the bath tub or the sandbox! thanks for the giveaway!

I have six children, so we have LOTS of laundry and I really was getting tired of sorting it. That is my least favorite part. So, instead of everyone having a laundry basket in their room, I have just made sorted bins in the laundry room and everyone has to take their laundry straight to the sorting area every night. I have taught each of the children what clothes go where. Solved lots of headaches. Thanks for the giveaway!
I hate ironing so I fold clothes as soon as they come out of the dryer.
I struggle with doing 5 loads of laundry at a time, so I usually end up doing laundry for 3 days at a time. My husband has recommended to me so many times to just do it all in one day when I’m home all day, and I should take his advice. This laundry giveaway is too cool!
I’m really good at keeping up with washing laundry, but then I dump the clean clothes on my dining room table, where they stay for days until I get around to folding. I need to fold right away so I can have my dining room clean and ready to entertain at any time.
Like so many other comments, I, too, leave clean laundry unfolded for too long. Then it gets wrinkled, and I have to toss through the basket to find the article of clothing that I need. THANKS!
My worst laundry problem is that no one but me thinks twice about handing my daughter something messy while she’s wearing her nicest clothes. 😉 I have lots of stains. For the very worst stains, I pour a little water over it and sprinkle OxyClean over it, and rub it in with a toothbrush, and then let it sit for a day or so. I also do a lot of soaking. It’s tedious but it’s also a challenge that I almost halfway sort of kind of maybe a little bit enjoy. When it’s done.
I use Shout and to “stretch it” a bit, I pour it into a fine spritzer bottle. This way, when you spray the stains, it covers more area, but uses less. Very little stains EVER! 🙂
The hardest thing for me is folding. I just hate doing it! My solution: let the husband do it 😉 Actually, I have to be sure to wash the batch that had the smallest articles of clothing first, because if I leave it to last, it doesn’t get done. I don’t mind folding the towels and jeans last, but not all the kids clothes!
My biggest challenge is getting whites their whitest and brightest. I am currently working on that one!
I try to “save” my phone conversations for when I’m folding laundry or ironing. I don’t feel frustrated if I’m having an interesting conversation, and I’m more eager to get to the laundry if I know I’ll be able to call a friend!
My struggle is getting the laundry from the washer TO the dryer. I hate when I forget for a few days and end up with a very smelly mess that has to be rewashed.
My struggle for doing laundry is folding and putting away for a family of 5 with three school aged kids(and two boys..). It simply takes so much time if I do it by myself whether in front of TV or by listening to music even though I actually like folding laundry. My husband hates folding so he helps me for lots of other house cleaning work so that I can fold. My recent solution for this has been making it a team effort by including our three children in folding. So I choose to do the laundry when all the kids are home and so it together in the afternoon. We usually spread three loads of clean clothes on our queen sized bed and four of us stand by the bed and start doing it together. It has turned out pretty good mother-children social times so far; we talk about what happened to their own classes, exchanging a lot of funny jokes and stories, giggling, laughing while we fold the laundry. I can also teach them how to fold different items so as time goes on , they become more good at it. But one thing we always talk about while folding is how to invent laundry folding machine or robot because it sounds so cool for us especially when we are doing it.
My struggle with laundry is forgetting to take the clothes out of the drier as soon as it goes off and having to turn it back on to get the wrinkles out again..

Ironing is the worst! I try and run to the dryer when the buzzer goes off to get shirts on a hanger immediately just to avoid the ironing!
I’m terrible at getting it all put away, especially my daughter’s laundry. When she’s awake, she pulls it all out of the basket while I put away. When she’s asleep, I can’t bring myself to creep around her room!
I line dry most of the clean wet clothes, saving some wear on my dryer and giving the clothes a longer life cycle.
I have to say that with laundry we are pretty good — mostly because the kids do most of it (14, 11, 9, 8, 6,2). I wrote up a schedule on what is to be done when — we wash 4 times a day. I wrote out what settings to use and soap/fabric softener, etc. The 14 yo hangs up, and I usually have another child help her. And they know to put on hangers when dry to avoid ironing. That was my biggest accomplishment. Plus, even my 6 yo is pretty good at folding now. I would love this prize!
My struggle is getting it put away. I’ve partially solved this problem by having one of my kids “deliver” the clean, folded laundry to each person’s bed. The idea is that in order to go to bed that night, the person needs to put the clean clothes away. It works for 4 of the members of our family, but 12 year old DS usually just puts his on the floor! Oh well, most of us get it put away.
My biggest struggle is getting it all folded and put away. I’ve eased that struggle by washing my husband and my clothes in one load, my 2 girls in another load and towels in their own load. It makes the sorting less overwhelming.
I usually do laundry once a week so Its pretty stacked up. By the time I’m done doing 4 loads I am sick of doing laundry so it sits in a pile for a day and then its all wrinked! hate that!
My biggest laundry complaint is that my husband and my two sons throw stained clothes into the laundry hamper without telling me, therefore I don’t know to treat or soak them. Then when they come out of the dryer I see the set in stains as I am folding them! It is so frustrating!! So, my tip is, set aside anything that has any stain on it and immediately soak it overnight in a bucket of water and OxiClean. Works like a charm every time!
If only I had to just put it away, LOL. That’s the easiest part for me. Getting water spots & stains to come out is a challenge, especially when DH doesn’t inform me he dropped greasy ribs or spaghetti sauce on his shirt & pants. And let’s not talk about ironing because that is like going to the dentist. Ugh!

Dry your clothes only halfway, and if you have room, dry them the rest of the way on hangers- tada! No more wrinkles ! Thanks!
My biggest complaint is trying to keep things from being wrinkled. I can’t stand wrinkled clothes so I smooth everything out before putting it on hangers, that way I don’t have so much to iron.
I struggle is folding clothes. Lately, I have been folding each piece as it comes out of the dryer. By not letting unfolded clothes hit the basket, I’m currently winning the battle.
Now if I can just get the baskets emptied…
My biggest struggle is putting the clothes away. It’s so easy to throw piles of clothes in the washer.
I fold and hang laundry one load at a time and try to pur it away as soon as I’m done. I separate my kids clothes into small bins and each is responsible for putting away socks, pajamas, etc. Well at least until school starts then it falls right back on me.
I tweeted!
I don’t mind doing laundry except for the folding, the sorting, and the fact that I can’t throw many of my clothes in the dryer! They will shrink or are too delicate for the tumbling and heat.
I have a big problem with stains due to my 8 month old, 9 year old and 13 year old!
Thanks for a great give-away! Biggest struggle I have is getting the laundry folded & put away.
Oh my! where do I even begin? I am really good at getting the laundry clean – it’s the folding and putting away that’s a problem. I have an acronym that I put often on my to do list: FPAL. It stands for Fold and Put Away Laundry. I am the kind of person that easily gets sidetracked, so following a load start to finish rarely happens. I tend to let the baskets pile up and then just have a marathon folding session while watching TV with the family or whatnot. I am trying to relinquish some of the control of laundry to my kids, but I’m starting small, because the folding job is something that I’m picky about. I don’t want the clothes to be all wrinkly, because ironing is a WHOLE other issue!
I can assure you that a steamer is WELL WORth the MONEY! I sell a lot of clothes on EBAY, so figured a steamer would save me time in preparing the clothes for photos. (The clothes were arriving in large boxes, packed flat and therefore either deeply creased or wrinkled.) We bought the kind of Jiffy Steamer that you see in any clothing store. I got mine on EBAY, brand new.
Now we NEVER use the iron. A steamer is a much gentler, better, and faster way to get wrinkles out of clothing. The only exception to this would be men’s business dress shirts which often require a crisp ironed look w/ creases in the sleeves, etc.
As far as getting laundry done….you need a bin, bucket, or basket for each person in your family. Clean, folded clothes go into these along w/ any other little toys, trinkets, shoes, etc that are left around the house. Then each person in the famiy is responsible to clean out his/her basket every day. A uniform system of matching baskets is very nice – like a closet organizer system…but not absolutely necessary.
A huge boost to my laundry dilemma was when I realized my children were old enough to really help. I gave my 9-yr-old and 12-yr-old the daily responsibility of asking me what one job they could do to help w/ laundry. That means they either sort dirty clothes into piles and spray Oxy-clean on the stains, move clothes from washer to dryer and put a new load into the washer, or fold a load of clean dry laundry. Now that I have enlisted real help, I never have the HUGE piles of dirty laundry any more…or even clean laundry that needs to be folded! That’s remarkable considering we are a family of 8!
Note: I wash my own special items of clothing separately in their own load using cold water. I don’t trust them to my kids! 🙂
I have boys that play Jr. Hi. & Hi. School football. Grass and mud stains are definitely a struggle to get out of white practice uniforms.
My struggle is always getting it put away and how I deal with that is I do not move any more laundry to the dryer until the dryer is cleaned out and everything is at least folded and organized. I always sort and quickly fold everything as I take it out of the dryer. I leave it on the washer and dryer and put everything away throughout the day.
I can get the laundry done with no problem but its the organizing part which is difficult. Also, I sometimes feel that the laundry machines in our apartment building are not good. They don’t seem to remove the food stains that my daughter seems to leave on all her clothes. So that means I have to hand wash them again.
Thanks.
I’m great at washing and folding, but putting laundry away is hard for me– and many others, it sounds like! I’m trying to fold the laundry in the room where it belongs, making it easier to get the piles put away immediately, as opposed to putting them back in the basket and having them stay there for days. Thanks for the chance to win!
I have two boys 3 and 1. It seems like they are always gettig something on their shirts. If i dont pretreat it right away it stains. I end up having to wash the same shirt 3-4 times just to get it clean. I need something better to fight stains.
My laundry struggles have lessened because I have a husband who doesn’t mind doing laundry! I help put things away. The one thing he doesn’t do (which he should) is check all the pockets before he starts the laundry for items like facial tissue. If there is a special item I fear may not get the correct laundering, I do that one myself. Ah well, you can’t have everything! It would be fun for us to use the laundry kit! He would get a hoot out of the Flip-Fold Laundry tool. I believe they used one of those tools in a scene in an episode of The Big Bang Theory last season. My husband got a kick out of that scene!
My biggest laundry problem is getting the clothes put away. My children are old enough to help, but never quite get them put away–they just set them on the floor or in a chair in their rooms.
My struggle is getting laundry folded and put away.
My laundry struggle is baseball season – playing travel baseball and 4-5 games a week I’m doing laundry daily so we get home late at night throw the uniform in, dry in the morning and repeat almost daily. Plus getting out stains can be a challenge as well.
My biggest struggle is that I have to go outside and around my house to get to my washer! I also HATE to put laundry away. It usually sits until we’ve dug through it so much that it is all wrinkly and unfolded…
The only problem getting my own laundry done is finding time to do it when no one else wants to use the machines or no one is sleeping in the next room. On the other hand, my son manages to start his wash but I end up having to finish it or I would never get any done. His wife does her wash but leaves it in dryer for days. So I end up doing hers too.
I always seem to have laundry even though I do it all week. Summer is the worst when the kids are swimming, always seem to be taking showers, and changing clothes. Back to school seems to lessen the laundry load a bit.
Our biggest struggle is finding the time to do laundry since we have TWO sets of twins under the age of 3. We have a hard time getting into the wash and then putting it all away. Stains is a whole nother issue…………….
My biggest laundry struggle is pet-related issues like pet hair, getting pet stains out of fabric and figuring out how to easily launder cat beds.
Man, we need this bad. Is there any way to make laundry better?? I’ve wondered…..
My struggle with laundry is feeling overwhelmed!! I don’t mind the washing and drying but I don’t like the folding and putting away! Sometimes I get behind and then I end up feeling overwhelmed with the huge pile of clean clothes! I find that if I do one to two loads of laundry a day it really helps. Every morning I have a clean load waiting for me in the dryer, so I put in a load of diry clothes and fold the clean ones from the day before. I must admit though, I don’t separate my clothes much before they go in the washer.

I love using the clorox pen with my boys football uniforms. It is so hard to get grass and mud stains out of their pants.
Three kids, who aren’t little anymore, and one hairy dog. No sooner than the “big” hamper is empty, it’s full again…ughhh! So my biggest struggle is volume…constant volume!
I have 5 kids, keeping up with laundry is an everyday struggle.
Washing and drying is the easy part….putting it away…now that is a different story…Love the new Tide Total Care leaves my clothes smelling niiiice…
My biggest struggle with laundry is remembering to put it in the dryer right away. I’m always busy with the little ones when the wash stops and then I forget about it until hours later!!
My issue is simply finding time to fold when the kids are not awake b/c if I fold while they are up it take me three times the amount of time if I do it w/o their “help.”
My biggest problem was dry-cleaning. I wear a lot of nice clothes to work. I found that I liked using Dryel to save on dry-cleaning costs. Now that we are cutting costs even more, I started soaking the used Dryel clothes in vinegar. Now when my nice clothes need a spruce up, I toss one of the vinegar clothes into the dryer for 20 minutes. It takes out any smells and the wrinkles.
Single mom of 2 teens and a lil’ one, my laundry facilities are in my garage down 3 huge steps which can make it not only a pain but dangerous for me.
To make things easier/faster with laundry, I usually just keep the washer lid open, when I get a # of clothes in the dirty laundry bag I just open the door to the garage and toss the dirty clothes in there until I have a load and then wash it instead of waiting till’ the end of the week or when the clothes run out… 🙂
With a household of 6-I usually throw a load of laundry in the washer every night when I get home from work. But then comes dinner, bathtime and bedtimes for the little ones. I usually don’t have the energy (or desire) to get it folded. Hence the reason, I’m usually folding the week’s worth of laundry on Saturday or Sunday night! And every week I vow that I’ll fold that load every night instead. Here’s hoping this week it’ll happen!
My biggest struggle with laundry is folding it. My lovely fiance takes care of the washer/dryer part, but folding never seems to get done. Socks are the biggest problem, since I swear none of them ever match! I try to combat this by putting the laundry basket where I always see it, and since I like things pretty neat, that usually convinces me to do it (or toss it all in the closet and shut the door 🙂 )
I have the worst problem with stains. My youngest is the messiest eater, painter, etc. and I rarely get her stains out! Even when I check the internet for laundry tips and follow them exactly, the stains still won’t come out.

With my oldest son moving back home and two other children who are teenagers my struggle with luandry is I never see the bottom of the basket. I have three hampers in the laundry room one for whites, darks and lights colors so that help me keep things organized. Also my son is a chef and sometimes the stains are so hard to get out.
tamben7996(at)aol(dot)com
My boyfriend and I have two laundry baskets one for dark and one for whites. This helps us with the sorting. For me folding is the worse which is why I always make my boyfriend help fold the laundry. Not only does it get the job done faster but its time we get to spend together.
My woes are stains stains stains. Always have them and sometimes never get rid of them. I have found that clorox does work better on whites than any generic so I have become brand loyal to clorox bleach. Honest.
I use softsoap to remove tough stains! It gets most of them out, especially ketchup & blood.
I’m good with the actual washing and stain removing…but I loose momentum when it comes out of the dryer. I hate folding and putting away. Not sure why…maybe because it seems to take so long from the first step to the last. If anyone has a laundry fairy, please sign me up! 🙂
My son has reflux and we have to wash a load of his laundry every day or it is a stinky mess!
The best thing I have found is something called “Zout”. It’s taken out stains that have been through the dryer. One of the kits would be great though!!!
I have 5 kids and laundry is DEFINITELY a challenge for me. My saving grace is that my wonderful husband purchased me a Whirlpool Duet washer/dryer a few years back. I can now put about two and a half loads of laundry in one load. I still do approximately two to three loads of laundry per day just to keep on top of things. The hardest part for me, is that if I don’t fold the load IMMEDIATELY, it wrinkles. Anyway, thanks for everything you do!
My biggest battle is not finding the stains to begin with. I always end up washing stains into our clothes. I search and search yet I still manage to set in my own stains.
One thing I’ve found that works is something my mom uses and something my grandma used as well. I’m not sure if I’m spelling it correctly but Felsnapta soap? It’s a bar of laundry soap and i use it on stains (when I find them and around the house for a wide range of things).
My struggle is when my husband leaves stuff in his pockets. You may ask, why don’t I check them? Why should I for one! And second, he has so many pockets in his cargo shorts that it takes forever…so my resolution is that when I wash his clothes, it is ONLY his clothes in the wash. If anything gets ruined – it’s only his stuff and then he’ll not leave stuff in. This has taught him to not leave pens in the pockets, however, bottle caps still get in the laundry.
My biggest issue was socks. With six kids I could never keep up with them (folding, finding matches, etc.). Someone gave me the idea of just throwing them all in a basket and the kids will have to find them. So, I use the pedestal drawer under my dryer for socks! When the load is done I just drop them in. Black on one side and white on the other. I love it! I’m considering using the other drawer for underwear…
I always hated sorting my laundry – it seemed to take forever. I bought one of those 3 basket laundry sorters and now everyone sorts it as we put it in the dirty clothes and I know exactly when I have a full load!
We managed to get the clothes washed and dried fine, it’s the folding and putting away that seems to be a problem. I have to do it when my 16 month old son is asleep because it is a great love of his to knock over all the piles of clothes. Then of course I have to wait until he’s up from his nap to put his clothes away.
I have 4 kids and the laundry never ends! I try to start a load each morning before breakfast, then throw it in the dryer after breakfast, and put away sometime during the day. (okay, I’m not great at it every day, but this is my goal.) 🙂
My biggest struggle is keeping up on the laundry so that I don’t have that nasty musty smell from damp clothes sitting in a pile. YUCK!
My struggles are doing laundry. But when I decide to take the task on, I try to do it in one day. Then I remember I don’t have to wait around for it, I can do other things while I wait. Most times I end up leaving a load in the dryer overnight. Not good, then everything gets wrinkley. I HATE putting clothes away. But when I get laundry done, I feel so accomplished – but I’m a procrastinator.

I struggle and struggle. After ahem, ahem, fifty years of doing laundry, well not quite, I didn’t start when I was three. Did I just tell the blog-o-sphere how old I am? Ah, see my mind wanders! One of my biggest problems is that I wait until I run out of clothes to do laundry instead of doing it every week. By then I have huge piles of dirty clothes and it’s a humongous job.
What pushed me to enter to win this is the folding thingie. I would love to try one of those!

I struggle with staying caught up. The laundry room is usually buried in dirty clothes, and I’m all to blame for nobody having a clean outfit for their day.
That was until my friend gave me the perfect solution!
Each person gets their own laundry basket in the laundry room. Each person gets an assigned day to sort, wash, dry and put away their OWN laundry! How clever is that?
My kiddos are 10 and 12 and have shown me this summer they are quite capable of doing their part! (Not that they want to!)

I can sort and wash, but I tend to forget about it and half the day is gone and I’ve only done a load because I was so busy with the rest of the house even though my washer has a buzzer. I have gotten better, but it is a constant struggle. I have resorted to putting the next load in front of the laundry room where I can run-in to it and remember to put the next load in. Thanks for such a great giveaway!
I always seem to have piles of laundry. My new plan to stay on top of it, is to do at least one load of laundry a day.

Keeping up with laundry at my house is near impossible. Though there are only two of us, my fiance and I both work two jobs. Combine that with two small dogs that both make frequent messes, and we dirty enough items in one day to outfit an entire family. And becuase neither my fiance and I are home for extended periods of time its difficult to be able to wash, dry, fold, and put away clothes in even a remotely timely manner.
I actually kind of enjoy laundry, but that’s probably only because I do laundry for myself. For me, the best way to get it done is just do it. The more it piles up, the less inclined I am to do it.
Part of my laundry struggles involve getting it put away as well as ironing it. Now that we upgraded our dryer, I am trying to do a much better job of popping things out of the dryer quickly, which results in less ironing. I have also made putting away portions of the laundry my daughters’ responsibility, which earns them each 10 cents for completing it.
I have found that doing ALL the laundry on 1 day works better for me than trying to do a load or 2 per day. With 4 kids it is alot for 1 day, but I don’t plan much else on that day & it’s nice to just get it all done for the week at once.
My biggest struggle is getting the clothes put away. I guess that’s the work part since the machines actually do the real work. I’m a terrible folder, though my husband excels at this. Guess who does the laundry, though! I’m also fighting stains made by my one and two year olds. I can never get their clothes clean enough.
My biggest struggle is ironing. I am a neat freak and hate wrinkles, so I always have to iron.
I have three children, two of whom change clothes constantly! It creates so much laundry! I can usually manage to get the laundry clean, and usually dry, but putting it away is another story all together. It is not unusual for it to sit around in baskets for a week or two!
Great giveaway! My biggest laundry struggle is getting clean clothes folded and put away. If I put the basket in the TV room, it’s hard to ignore too long. Thanks for the chance to win!
I average 1-2 loads of clothes a day. I have 3 littles ones under 5, my husband works 2 jobs and attends school, plus myself. The laundry baskets seem to stay half full at all times. The hardest stains to remove are from the little ones that do not always get pretreated before washing/drying. I have found that if I spray water on the spots/stains after the wash/dry cycle then spray with pretreater the stains come clean after being laundered again. Now if I could just learn to enjoy ironing! Thanks for the helpful tips.
Laundry is a daily thing at our house. There are 5 of us and laundry seems to multiple overnight. I have to do at least a load or 2 a day to keep up. I don’t mind most of it, but I really hate to fold and put away things. I try my best to pretreat anything that needs it but never seem to get those white socks as white as I’d like. It would be great to get some additional tips.
I hate trying to get my rags and misc use towels in the kitchen white(er). No matter how many times I bleach them, they still look grungy.
I’m the one with the stain problem. I spill everything. Then I forget to treat the stains and notice them when I pull something out of the closet!
I’ve finally gotten pretty good at keeping up with laundry by trying to do one load almost every day. But the ironing is my last big area of struggle. We probably have half a closet of stuff that we can’t wear because it needs to be ironed.
Thanks for offering this giveaway!
My husband is a mechanic and comes home covered in grease daily. We use dish soap with grease fighter.

We use teamwork to get things done. I am not good at ironing so when we do laundry I fold and my husband irons and hangs, so it gets done quicker and doesnt seem so intimidating.
I like to get it all done on one day so it is over and done with. It irritates me when people won’t come and get their clean clothes out of the laundry room. They leave them in there and use the laundry room for a closet and dresser. Now I take their stuff out and keep it for a week if they don’t come get their clean clothes. Amazing how that works – wink.
Thanks for having the giveaway!
Getting my big kids to help put theirs away is the biggest help (or keeping my husband away from it) 🙂
My main laundry concern would be the massive amounts of ironing I have to do. I dislike it and it always seems to pile up immediately after I’ve just finished it. I’ve found that if I just do it as soon as it comes out of the dryer i’ll have no problem… now, if I could only remember to take it out…
Thanks! One of my tips for particularly tricky stains is to boil water, pour half a scoop of oxy clean in and toss your ill=spotted linen in and let it soak for several hours. Wash as normal after. Works 90% of the time for me. 🙂
My biggest struggle is ironing which is made harder when you don’t have an ironing board. I only iron when I really, really have to.
My biggest struggle is getting everyone to put their dirty laundry into the laundry baskets. So, sometimes I only do what is in the baskets–then they pick it up. Thanks
My biggest laoundry problem is dingy whites. I probably need to try special detergents or additives.
My biggest laundry struggles are stains (even though my 9 year old keeps a Tide to go pen in her bookbag & uses it regularly) and getting the girls to put away the folded/hung up clothes.
My husband does maintenance on big greasy metal cutting machines at work and his work clothes come back filthy and smelly. I hate washing them because nothing I’ve tried seems to get them really clean. However, I’ve started washing them on hot and that seems to cut the greasy oily spots somewhat.
I don’t ever seen to have trouble getting the laundry done, but I never get it put away! In fact the laundry room has become a huge walk in closet. I have been struggling with this problem for many years now. I try to dedicate myself to putting the laundry away after each load, but about halfway through the day I am done with that.
Thanks for the chance to enter!
I usually wash the clothes and put them into the dryer. My husband usually folds the clothes and puts them away. My biggest laundry challenge is getting the ironing done in a timely manner.
Thanks for the information and thanks for the chance to enter this giveaway.
My biggest struggle is time. I typically throw towels in while I’m cooking dinner because I don’t have to worry about them wrinkling. The clothes is my biggest challenge due to getting it out of the dryer and folded and/or hung before wrinkles set.
My boyfriend will help out a little, by putting them in, i have to do the “transfer” since he’s not sure what can and cannot go in the dryer. Neither of us like to fold and put them away in closets/drawers because they are so crowded so then and have piles of wrinkled clothes for days. Good thing we just got a new iron and we like to iron!
My biggest challenge with doing laundry is having my 3-year-old knock down my piles of just-folded clothes!
My biggest problem is having time to fold the clothes right when the dryer is finished. I really don’t like ironing so I’ve been trying to time it so that I can get them out of the dryer right away.

For me, I like to spread them out….doing one or 2 loads a day seems more enjoyable than pile it up for 7 days …. and I always watch something fun on TV while doing it….that makes time go faster 🙂
my husband is a letter carrier, you would think thats a fairly clean job. NOT his shirts get all this ground in dirt and dust from handling the mail, i have to take a pretreater and a scrub brush and scrub the grime before i wash them.
I have 5 kids. I always have bottles of Shout on reserve for those stubborn stains. I do about 3-5 loads per day, otherwise, I get so far behind that it get too crazy.
My only struggle with laundry is how much of it there seems to be, I now do a load or two a day and that helps
Our greatest challenge is getting it put away! If we put it away as each load is folded, we seem to do better. But if we wait until all 3 or so loads are done, it seems like such a daunting task!
i have issues with my dark colors fading. we bought a new front loader washer/dryer and i’ve been using the new air dry feature on the dryer. it’s great, now i don’t have to dry my darks or hang them on doorknobs throughout the house. i can just air dry them all and keep my clothes looking new for longer.
The problem I have is that my laundry seems to multiply while waiting to be washed. Those darn socks need to quit their hanky panky!
If I would just wash it right away, maybe they wouldn’t have a chance!

We just bought a new washer/dryer 2.5 years ago when we moved into our new home and we’ve already had to replace the dryer this past winter. Now the washer is making a funky noise and I’m worried that it’s going to die.
Nevermind the the fact that we are a family of 6 and the stream of laundry never seems to end!

I don’t mind washing and drying the clothes but when it comes to folding them and putting them away I have no motivation. Typically we just live out of a laundry basket so to speak. I might have a laundry basket full of clothes and I’m starting the cycle all over again. I just need to get motivated!

I am estacy this week because last weekend I moved into an apartment that actually has a washer/dryer inside my apartment!!! What an incredible blessing! No more worrying about my things being stolen or lugging heavy loads of laundry to the laundromat. Therefore, no struggles here…this week anyway. 🙂
My problem is clothes don’t seem to get soft. I leave the old dryer sheets in the dryer until they absolutely can’t be used any more.
