Last Tuesday was my four year old’s first day of 4K. I really can’t tell you how excitedly he had waited for this day. We literally counted down to this day for the past four weeks. He just couldn’t wait. The week prior, we attended the school’s open house. We were all excited to see his room and to meet some of his new classmates.
When the day came for him to start School, I have to confess, I was not anxious or nervous. Neither was he. He was so ready. He changed into his clothes, brushed his teeth and hair, and was ready to go!
His classes are in the afternoon and my husband came home from work to take him to school on his first day. I was so happy to see him go. Not because I would be getting a break, but because he was so excited to start this new adventure. And I think that’s such a gift: to be excited about new experiences instead of anxious or worried.
I must admit that as happy as I was to see him go, as pick up time drew nearer, I couldn’t wait to find out how his day had gone. I put his little brother in the car seat, and together drove to the school to get him. He was happy to see us and I gave him the biggest hug. It had only been three hours but I had missed him so much. Of course, when I asked what he had done in school he said “I don’t know.” But with a bit of patience on my part, and excitement to share on his, he let me know he had made new friends and he had painted with crayons and had a snack at school.
I am so proud of him and I know that there are so many good things waiting for him in his new school. I am so thankful I have been given the opportunity to be there for him and provide him encouragement when he needs it. He has now asked if he can ride the bus to school and he will be getting that experience as well. He even requested that we are not in his school at the time the bus drops him off there. He wants to go through this alone. We will be there at least the first time, or as many times as he needs us to be.

My son loved his first day of second grade at his new school! He was so excited about not having to wear uniforms π

I love remembering all of the first days of school and you know who ended up crying – me!! It is always so touching to see the back of their head as they go into the door way. We have been through the clinging stage, the independent stage, the I don’t want to go to school stage, the I’ll give you a thumbs up at the door stage, and now back to independent stage again!
I forever will be the one that misses him more than he misses me. I only have one kiddo (that’s just the way things worked out, did not plan that or wish for it) so every time, every experience is our one and only time. It makes the times super precious and super special. I am blesses to have a beautiful, bright, and big healthy boy!
I loved your story, it reminded me of so many memories π
My 8-year-old granddaughter couldn’t wait to go back to school this year to reunite with her school buddies. She is smart & outgoing, so school is her idea of fun, which makes her Nana very proud.
My 4yo son’s first day of preschool was today. He’s been ready for weeks! Even wore his back pack to enrollment. π Today we walked in, and he was SO EXCITED to find his name on a hook to hang his bag! He immediately started playing with the kids (it’s a tiny town… he already knows his teacher and most of the 9 kids in his class) and told me he’d see me later.
Our biggest issue was trying to pull our 2 yo daughter out of there. She wanted to stay!

My recently-turned-six year-old had his first day of first grade last week. We are in the big leagues now! My son has always been known as the model-student. (That is the term his teachers have used, I can assure you he is my very loveable, but not model, child at home.)My husband and I work at the school and see him frequently in the halls. Upon seeing my new little first grader in the hall, he pronouned “Mom, I am going to recess. Do not come out to recess.” I said, “Well, I wasn’t planning on it.” I thought, “My little boy is now my big boy and doesn’t want his mommy around.” Come to find out he had received his first ever time-out and would be missing a few minutes of recess. What was he doing you ask? Making big noises during class. My son, the extremely quiet, extremely obedient kindergarten has turned into my outgoing, outspoken first grader!
That would be “making PIG noises”! Oops.
Many years ago, my son was extremely excited for his first day of school. He donned his new clothes, ate his lunch, brushed his teeth, combed his hair, and off we went to the bus stop. He smiled and waved at the top of the bus stairs, and off he went, as I walked home with tears streaming down my face. I couldn’t wait for him to come home to hear about his first day of Kindergarten. Midafternoon, I heard the door slam. I called out to him, “How was your first day?” “I’m not going back” was the answer. Turns out the bus driver for the trip home had been extremely gruff, cursed at the children, and made the trip home an altogether terrifying experience for the little ones. For about 2 weeks, I rode the bus with him (just around our village) on the way to school, as he would leave for the bus stop but then come home in tears. Not a good way to begin his first year of school. When he made it through the school day with no tears, his teacher awarded him the “Top Banana” award.
Last week was my “baby’s” first day of high school. I asked if she were nervous. Nope. Excited. Nope. New charter high school, no friends attending with her, a few acquaintances also attending – totally new environment. I knew she was “all of the above”, but not willing to admit it. First day was fine, though she did admit to a bit of nervousness, LATER.
dd had her first day of kindergarten last week. We too got the ‘I don’t know’ response… but after playing silent for a few minutes about school, she started to tell me about how she has a desk that all of her own supplies go into – she also told me all of the rules of the class. I love to see the excitment from them! They are so much fun!!! Thanks for the chance.

My son’s first day of kindergarten was last week Monday. He was all set to go, and couldn’t wait to get there….but most especially he was excited to be able to bring his own cold lunch!! My husband and I walked him to school and took him into his classroom. He sat right down, we took a few pics and he said “goodbye” to us with practically no looking back! Of course that made me happy, but also a bit sad too that my baby is indeed growing up!
My youngest started high school last week. He was really looking forward to it – his graduating class is just over 200 so he knew everyone as no other middle schools feed into this school. They built this beautiful new high school that opened last year for 2500 kids and there’s currently 1100 in the school. He’s lucky it’s a first rate facility for a small town.
First day of school was today and my nephew was thrilled to meet the class turtles, Simon and Alvin!
I sent one to PreK and one to kindergarten 2 weeks ago. They did great going in. The kindergartener LOVES it, but my poor little 4-year-old was “teased by big boys” on the playground and got scared of recess!
My 9 year old daughter Elyssia had an opportunity to attend a new school. It is a charter school for 4th and 5th grade students. It enables the students to function at a level that is challenging for them. We debated about this choice for a long time. We went on a tour and she fell in love with the library, so her final decision was this charter school. Of course I was anxious to pick her up on her first day of school. This is a huge change for her. As I pulled into the parking lot I spotted her RUNNING to our van. She was THRILLED with her choice. Her smile told it all. Yes, no more worries for mom……..
My nephew is in preschool this year and loves trains! He was so excited about his new Thomas the Train backpack and showing all his new friends.
My nephew enjoyed going to school last year, so we were surprised when he refused to get on the bus. His Dad had to drive him to school, and he refused to get out of the car. I am happy to say that after a week he is doing much better, and rides the bus everyday.
My stepson started 5th grade this year…at this age, the first day of school goes by pretty easily w/out much fanfare. However, his first day of Kindergarten was a different story. Bless his heart, he was VERY upset and for several years had a lot of anxiety about any “unknowns”. We are so thankful he’s worked through all of that.
You are right that your son has a wonderful gift of independence. I am happy for him (and you)!
We homeschool but we still make a big deal about the first day of school. A special breakfast and then starting the day with a smile gets us off to a good start.

Last week was my βbabyβsβ first day of school. He was SUPER, UPPER EXCITED.
Please enter me into the drawing. My grandson was so excited to return to school this year. He has the same 2nd grade teacher his sister had 3 years ago and already loves her. She is simply the best.
My son’s first day of P4 was so exciting for him. He went for the 3 yr old preschool program last year and remembered so many of his little friends.
He walked around for an hour before we were to leave with his backpack on and when we got there and he started seeing his friends, he could not contain his excitement.
It was so cute to watch. (and sad b/c my little guy is growing up). π
Thanks for the chance to win!
My nephew is a Senior this year. His first week went well, but it still amazes me after all these years that when we ask him what he learned that day, he struggles to come up with something–even though he knows we will keep asking until we get an answer:-)
My 4 year old daughter just started PreK, too! She was a little hesitant when I left, but didn’t cry. I was so proud!
So far so good! Today was open house day for my little guys at preschool! first official day is Thursday.
My daughter started 4k last Tuesday as well. She was so excited to be able to meet new friends and learn new things every day. I wish it would be as easy for the parents as it is for the kids. She doesn’t want to hold my hand anymore walking in the parking lot at school because she’s a “big girl” now and she say’s I “embarrass her”. Unfortunately, the second week of school isn’t any easier for me than the first week.
My step-daughter is a wonderful young lady, and she was so excited to begin the 8th grade this year. She’s one of those kids that really looks forward to going back to school every year. She made her Mother and I very proud last year with a straight “A” average and a near-perfect attendence record (missed it by one day, girl scouts event). She’s thrilled to be in advanced placement classes this year and seeing all of her friends again.

My son had his first day of preschool today. He was so excited to be going to school just like Daddy (in medical school right now). He had tons of fun and has been asking to go back. I’m thrilled!
would love to win this! Everyone needs cards for every occasion!
My son had his first day of school two weeks ago – his first day of college. He’s loving it.
My grandson started preschool today. I haven’t heard about his experience yet, but I’m excited for him. Thanks for this opportunity.
My 9th and 10th graders went back to the classroom after home schooling for 5 years. They had some minor adjustments and have felt a bit overwhelmed remembering everything — but all in all, they’ve had a great transition. My 5th grader is at home with me and we had a great start to the year- love reading “Where the Red Fern Grows” together!!
This is a little different than a young child story-our 19 year old has been waiting all summer to go back to college for his sophomore year. To make matters even harder for him his 2 siblings in college got to go 3 weeks before he did. We took him back to college this past weekend and he started back to class on Labor Day. He likes his new roommate and he has an old weezer of a car this year-ah life is good for him!
My son started middle school at a new school two weeks ago. Like your son, he wasn’t anxious or nervous, but extremely excited. I,on the other hand, was a basket-case because I know how hard the middle school transition can be (especially since he transferred to a K-8 school, where many students had been there for years). Needless to say, he was thrilled and had a wonderful first day. That afternoon, when I went to pick him up (no school buses here), two of his new friends were there to ask if he could stay for 15 minutes after school each day, as they all do. Yeay! I worried for nothing and he LOVES his new school.
It was my sons first day at preK and 1st time away from home. He was really excited and I was excited for him. He looked so cute with his backpack on. It was emotional for me to detach and entrust him in the care of others but I kept it in until after we dropped him off. I didn’t want him to feed on my emotions. It was a great day. His siblings missed him and were happy to pick him up with a big hug and walked hand in hand back to the car for the ride home.
My best friend’s little boy was so excited to go to school last week! He had such great stories and adventures to tell anyone who would listen!
My 13 year old nephew had tears in his eyes today his first day. He was very nervous, he is small for his age. He has been going to school since he was 3, Head Start, as he was a preemie 1 1/2 lbs and my sister & brother in law wanted him to be at the same level with the other kids when he started K. Poor kid has practically been going to school his whole life so far. That first day of school was saddest for all of us except him, he was excited, we all cried. He was so small that my sister had to lift him up to the first step of the school bus each day. Just thinking about it now 10 yrs later brings tears to my eyes, his backpack was as big as he was.
Thanks for the chance
We just did our 5th day of homeschool today. The 5yr old was so excited she could hardly sleep the night before the first day. The 4yr old twins enjoy school as well, especially having their very own glue sticks. The 2yr old loves to sit there and scribble in his little notebook and cut paper.
My 8-yr old daughter loves school so when the 1st day came around, she just couldn’t wait! She’s smart and very outgoing. She has lots of friends from school. One of her best buddies is in the same class! She’s thrill!
My 3yo daughter started preschool this morning and was really excited because I put cookies in her back pack as a snack. That’s what she was really excited about.
My daughter was super excited and couldn’t wait to get to school. As I was feeling all anxious for her and trying to swallow the lump in my throat… she just couldn’t wait to get away and enjoy herself. It’s creepy how fast time flies!
Today was the my youngests first day of school ever. She’s 2 1/2 and today she stared preschool for severe speech delays. She went right in and hung up her backpack and followed the teacher around but when I got ready to leave she put her hand in mine until the teacher mentioned it was time for breakfast. Ah, food:) I said good-bye and watched from around the corner as they walked to the cafeteria. They look so grown up in such small little bodies.
Today was my daughter’s first day of “school” (she is in daycare 2 days a week). She started in a new room today and did better than expected. Didn’t shed a tear with the new teacher and was excited to play with new toys. Certainly made mommy’s heart strings relax a bit :).
This year was my youngest nephew’s first day of school and he had fun! He was so excited to go to school like his brothers and sisters. He wasn’t nervous or anything, just pure excitement! π
My daughter started first grade this year. She was super excited about riding the bus so we got to the bus stop early. There were 2 other Mum’s and their kids and the bus drove right past us! So we had to hurry home so I could drive her to school. The entire way she was puzzling over why the bus driver didn’t see her. So that is her memory of her first day of school this year, the bus didn’t stop. That is what she wrote for her journal entry at school. The bus has stopped every other time (thank goodness) and she loves first grade.
Today was my son’s first day as a kindergarten. We are homeschooling, so it was my first day as a teacher too. It went pretty well…but with lots of breaks. It will be an adventure!
Today was my son & daughter’s first day of school. For my daughter, she was excited to be starting 8th grade that she was up by the crack of dawn, making sure her hair was just right, etc. She loves school because she does extremely well. A totally different story for my son who started the 4th grade. He is the complete opposite of my daughter, he has always struggled with school work and has to be in tutoring. It also doesn’t help that he is small in size and is only 8 yrs old. I ask the school to keep him in the 3rd again but they said no, as long as he is completing work @ basic level he has no need to be retain. I hope his first day goes well ( but i’ll keep crossing my fingers for the rest of the school year) at least he was excited about having to see some of his friends and to have one of my daughters old teachers and his now. We’ll see how it turns out later today!!
My kids went back on Aug. 25. My DD (7th grade) had a fabulous day back and was thrilled she is in French. My DS (3rd grade) came home with a fever and was out for 3 more days. Hoever, last week was a great week for him!!
I tweeted this!
My 4 year old daughter is very shy and cried on her 1st day of Pre-k. She’s fine now(2 weeks later)
My 9 year old daughter came home from her first day of school and said, “I want to go to bed right now so I can go back to school tomorrow faster!!” Had to explain time doesn’t work that way. LOL.
My son was so excited to start Pre-K. A lot of his playdate friends were also enrolled in his class. So far he loves his teachers and class and hates that he can only go three days a week.
my kids started school aug 12th. due to budget cuts, school buses were eliminated in our school district—my kids were one of those that got hit by the problem. first day was chaotic–not a lot of parking spaces and due to this, parents were having a hard time parking, dropping and picking up kids. but when i picked them up, they said their new teachers were nice and they just did some refreshers in math. they enjoyed their 1st day in school esp when they found out they have some of their old classmates in that same class.
My 2 year old son started his “school” last week. It is a 2 day a week class from 9-2. He could NOT wait to get started! I admit that I was much more nervous than he. He has soared higher than I ever thought he would these past 2 weeks. I am so proud of him for being such a big boy.
My daughter’s first day of Kindergarten was just 2 weeks ago. We dressed her in a pretty dress and matching bow – but the most exciting thing for her was that she would be able to bring her “mariposa” – This is what she calls her backpack with a butterfly on it. So very exciting.
Thanks for this opportunity!

My 4yr old daughter was so excited to start her first day of preK at her new school. She showed me her locker and desk that were just for her things. She has been going to school since she was 2, so this was a breeze for her.
I was concerned for my grandson who had to open a locker for the first time. It all turned out fine; opened it on the first try.
Little Eva, across the street, hasn’t started school yet, as she is in Italy until the 1st of Oct. Her baby sister was being christened over there.
My son started K last week. He did really well but I don’t think he has said a word to a single kid in his class yet. He says he doesn’t know their names so he can’t talk to them! lol
So I’ve been trying to teach him how to make friends!
This is a great giveaway. I was just at Hallmark last night drooling over many items there!
James was nervous for her first day of high school, but he did fine and remembered where all of his classes were!
Preschool starts next week for us, but I know my niece started kindergarten last week and loved it!
My 4year old daughter started preschool last week. She could not wait to get to school like all the other big kids. She had a GREAT first day and since our last name is at the beginning of the alphabet she has gotten to be the Line Leader, Snack Girl, and Show & Tell presenter already. She is so excited to go to school everyday. Mom on the other hand, is sitting in her dust wishing time would slow down a little!!!
My daughter just started Kindergarten and the first day went better than we expected. We homeschool so this was our first official year. The school year got off to a great start and she had so much fun getting all her school supplies ready. I really can’t believe she’s old enough for this already. It’s fun though.
Thanks!
My brother sent my nephew to preschool last year. He loved everything about school and even came back with a sticker for good behavior.
My daughter did surprisingly well at her first day of preschool! It went well (for all of us) because daddy took her. π
My kiddos did just fine, and are both excited about the upcoming year! It’s funny how I get more nervous than they do anymore.
My 3rd grader started in a new school, new city, new state–2500 miles away from his previous school. He was a little nervous. But, he is such an extrovert, so he’s fine!
My 3rd grader was excited to be back to see her friends; now she is ready for summer to be back. My kindergartener loves everyday of it (we started the beginning of August.)
My nephew did great on his first day of PreK, but his little brother missed him terribly!
My son is only 3, so goes to daycare, but everyday I ask him what he did and I usually get the same remark as your son gave you “I don’t know”. I just keep probing with questions about possibly singing songs, coloring, playing outside, eating snack, naptime, and more and then he usually starts recalling things he did that day. I miss him so much eveyday while I’m at work though!!!
Oldest son First day at Middle School
All the kids could not get into their LOCKERS He did not feel so bad when he came home.
Only daugher 4th grade
School is great 4th grade is now the big kids in the building
Youngest son almost 3 years old
Where did my brother and sister go? I get mom all day (YAH)
Is this just a clever ploy to make me cry?!?
My daughter started 1st grade and she did shockingly well. I don’t know whats worse, her being scared and missing me all day, or her just saying “see ya” and feeling totally fine!
Thanks for the entry. π
I had a freshman and an all day kindergartner both start on the same day, and I was a basket case for a whole week before. My son the freshman loves high school, and my daughter gave me the same huge thank you hug after her first day. Last week was definitely an adjustment, but we all survived!
we homeschool so our first day of school isn’t till next monday ~ one of the many advantages, for us, of homeschooling is we start, end + take as many weeks off during the school year as we want! i’m sure our first morning of school will be met with some resistance but it’s over quickly + we’ll soon get back in the swing of things!
My nephew, who is usually the most energetic, loudest kid at the party has was unexpectedly shy while meeting new people!
My granddaughter is in the second grade and I went to eat lunch with her on the first day because she was so nervous. When I got there she was sitting with other girls just having a wonderful time. She said she made five new friends and just loves her teacher.

My daughter goes starts 4 year old preschool next week. She is very excited and right now we are counting down the days on a clown calendar. I hope my daughter does well and is not so shy at preschool. Thanks for this great giveaway, and I am happy that your son was ready to go and enjoyed his day:)
My adorable little nephew managed to smash into a pole and had to get four stitches in his forehead on his first day of preschool! Poor little guy. He was a trooper, though, and didn’t want to miss school for anything.
As a teacher, I have to say that I really enjoy “back to school”….celebrating a “Happy New Year” – what other job to get a fresh start each and every year. π I actually wanted to send out “1st Day of School Cards’ to my neice, nephew, and friends’ kids but couldn’t find any! Anyone else have luck with cards like these? When I called my little friend, Grace, to find out about the first day of kindergarten she was thrilled: loves her teacher, the kids, and being at school all day…her mom even did ok with her first baby off to school!
My 7 year old daughter was so excited to start 2nd grade. She got out of the car at carpool turned around and said “bye Mom have a good day!”
My girls love school and counted down the days as well. Unfortunately, our first day of school is in early August so we are almost halfway through our first 9 weeks.
My daughter started 1st grade and she loved having recess & having her best friend in her class. I’m happy that she has a great teacher!
My son did well! It was his first day of preschool and it only took him a minute to sit down with some toys and not need me anymore. I’m pretty proud!
My nephew did wonderful. I cannot imagine what it will be like with my boys when the time comes.

Today was the first day back for my boys in 5th and 7th grades. They were excited to see their friends and be going to brand new schools that were finished over the summer break, but that’s about all I got out of them. It’s like pulling teeth to get them to talk about their day! Boys!
My sister did great. She was really excited to go back!

My 4yr old started school last Thurs. she was a bit nervous and at first didn’t want to go, but as it was getting closer to pick up time, she was telling her big sister, “hurry up, hurry up, my bus is coming” needless to say when the bus did get here she jump right on and I had to call her just to get her to look at me for a picture. Then she was upset cause whe only went to school 2 days then it was labor day weekend and she would be off for 3 days!
I tweeted!
This year all three of my children were in elementary school and everyone was glad to be able to see all their friends. My kindergartner was upset because he had only 1/2 days for the first month. He said he wanted a whole day!
My 11 year old just started middle school. He was so excited since his best friend had gone there for the past 3 years. He was excited to see his friends, switch teachers/classes through the day & his favorite part was getting his very own locker! =)
My niece started Pre-K this year and loved her first day! She wore a new skirt, a new shirt, and carried her pink backpack like she was the coolest girl in school.
My son isn’t old enough for school yet. He’s nine months old and to start our “school” we began watching Baby Einstein videos and the Baby Can Read program.
My 5 year old (turning 6 in 19 days) started first grade today! It’s the first time she has ever been in school full day. She did great! I missed her but i guess that is par for the course. I was a mom helper at lunch so I got to go in and see how she was doing. She listened well and ate all of her lunch. I am so proud of her!
My son started the 2nd grade today. He had a really great day! My daughter and I started our final year of at-home preschool this year and had a great time!

my daughter did great on her first day of school. She was so excited to see all of her friends she had missed over the summer.
My daughter’s first day of preschool is next week. I’m not worried about her, just me letting her go!
My son isn’t in preschool this year but my daycare provider has started a preschool acriculum with my 3 year old. She started this the same day that the other kids all started school. After they walked the other children to the bus stop they go back to the house and start thier day. We even bought him a little backpack so that he would feel even more special and he seems very excited to go to his “special school” every day. The first day he came home he was telling me that Apple starts with and A. I was so proud of him.
Today my son started back at his preschool. He has an amazing class of 8 boys this year (hasn’t happened in 6-8 years) to have the same sex all in one class. I am very excited for him as he had a wonderful first day.
My son’s first day of 7th grade was as usual. He couldn’t wait to et back home! He doesn’t like school very much!
My 2nd grader was happy to be back with old friends, and my kindergarter was so excited and made many new friends!
My daughter starts pre school tomorrow. She’s very excited but I’m nervous she’ll get upset when I leave! She’s very (overly) social when she knows someone but shy at first.
My four year old daughter started back to pre-K last week and couldn’t wait to get out the door! She had been talking for weeks prior about seeing her friends and her teacher, Miss Molly! Now if only Mommy was as excited as she was…I still cannot believe how quickly my “baby” is growing up! My husband likes to tease me by saying that I will have a nervous breakdown her first day of Kindergarten π Good luck to all & God Bless!!
My 2 oldest started school last week. My 2 1/2 year old keeps telling me she wants to ride the school bus and learn her ABC’s.
My last child went off to kindergarten this past week. He was very excited and has a great teacher. He comes home so happy. I cried with my first child and was fine for my second and my husband said I did the “I’m Free” dance with my third. It does get easier. π
My children are a sophomore in high school and in seventh grade so they didn’t seem too excited or nervous about the start of a new school year. We still took our first day of school pictures though!!
What a great give-away! I hope I win!!
Thank you, Mercedes!
My 2 oldest started school last week. Jr. High and High School just arent’ as exciting as elementary. My 2 1/2 yr. old “pleasant surprise” keeps telling me she is going to ride the school bus and learn her ABC’s.
My son went into first grade this year and I asked him what he did his first day. He looked at me and said,”nothing. The teacher just talked about all the rules we have to follow. I don’t like rules, so can I stay home instead?” I thought that was funny since we have alot of rules here at home too!

My eldest niece just started her senior year in high school. This is a big deal for our family, because she’s been suffering from crippling migraines for the past couple of years, and wasn’t able to attend public school last year (she did an online school program). But she’s been steadily improving and opted to try “regular” school again, so here’s hoping she’ll be able to finish out the year!
My daughter is older and being a teenager everything is “fine”. She did say that she liked her classes and has a lot of her friends eating lunch at the same time. Boy things have changed since the ABC’s and 123s.

Well, I don’t have children and my nephews are all out of school but I am a teacher. Does that count? I think the 26 students in my classroom did great. They had good listening skills, participated and looked great!! We started school in July on a year round calendar so we are 6 weeks into our school year.
My daughter got to have a friend spend the night because the friend’s parents had a family emergency. The girls were so excited to be able to get ready together they woke up 2 hours early and were downstairs making cereal before I even got out of bed. I was worried they’d stay up all night talking but they were bright-eyed and out the door early. Day 2 was a different story though and I had to resume my usual nagging to get my daughter out of bed on time. : )
my oldest started k4 this year. I was so nervous but he wasn’t! He couldnt wait. Got on the bus and never looked back. i cried.
hope i win π thanks for the chance!
My youngest started 5-K this year, and her big brother started middle school. Both did well and remain excited about the new year. I thought I’d be a little sad with no one left at home, but I have to admit – I’ve enjoyed every second so far!
I was so pleasantly surprised at how well my son did this year. He has a very difficult time with change and adjustments, but did very well even though he is attending two schools this year. While he still attends the same private preschool from last year, he also attends a public pre-K class twice a week to recieve special services. Despite all these changes he has been doing quite well & likes both schools! It’s been such a relief!
I don’t have any children of my own, but I do regularly babysit a child that attended the preschool I work at. He started kindergarten last week and he loves it! He wasn’t nervous at all because he already had a friend when he got there — a girl from our preschool is in his class! How nice for him!

My twin boys couldn’t wait for school to begin. They wanted to see all their old Kindergarten friends and even a few new faces.
Well, I don’t have children and I don’t have any nieces or nephews yet, but my husband is a substitute teacher and his first day went really well! He’s a bit tired after jumping back in head first, but he loves it!
My daughter will start 4K this week and is very excited for this opportunity!
My girls had their first day of PreK3 and they both said they had fun and want to go back, to me that’s a great day!
My niece and nephew started school. He was excited but she was a little nervous! Would love to win this!!!
My nephew called me to say “I had a GREAT first day!” after his first day of kindergarten. He was so excited to tell me all the cool things they have there, including bathrooms and a lunch room. I thought that was the funniest!

My daughter started 2nd grade and she was so excited to go back to school. She loved her first day and said it was easy like 1st grade and it went by really fast.
My son’s first day of preschool was bittersweet. I couldn’t believe my baby was going to school! Seems like it was just yesterday I found out I was pregnant with him, heard his heartbeat for the first time, felt his first kick in my womb, held him for the first time…the list of memories could go on and on. But, here we are, 4.5 years later and ready to take on new experiences. He was so excited that he was going to be a “big boy” but the thought of riding on the school bus all by himself was frightening. I’m a stay-at-home mom and my boys and I do everything together so this was a big step for all of us! Despite a few tears (from both of us), my little big guy came home with a huge smile on his face and lots of fun stories to tell. Since that rocky first day, he’s been just fine and has had such a sense of pride. While his younger brother and I miss him dearly while he is gone, we are also enjoying the one-on-one time we now get. Thanks!
I was just talking to my brother last night about my son losing 3 teeth in 8 days and he told me that my niece (his daughter) lost her very first tooth on her first day of Kindergarten…now there’s some growing pains! : )
Oldest two back to college, daughter started 11th grade… sigh… where did all the time go? Youngest is homeschooled, so we enjoyed reading together, practising Spanish…
My 5 year old loved his first day of k. He was nervous at first and sqeezing my hand, but as soon as he seen his friends from preschool i was forgotten about. π When I went to pick him up he was very happy to see me, as we walked home I asked him what he learned in school that day, and he said that his teacher taught him how to be quiet! lol I thought that was funny, so we practiced when we got home. π
One of my sons started Kindergarten this year. I thought that he would have a really tough time, but he did very well. When he got home I asked him what he did at school and he replied “After I got done doing all the things I HAD to do, I ate lunch and went out to the playground. There are 2 slides out there!”
My 5 y.o. niece started kindergarten this year. When I saw her over the weekend she said, “can you believe it? The day has FINALLY come for me to be a schoolgirl”. Hehe. She cracks me up.
My baby girl started high school last week, I think I was more nervous then she was. We recently moved during the summer so all new faces in all the new places. She had to have the “right” clothes & her hair needed to be perfect. But by the time she got home she was ruffled. She only got lost 3 times in such a huge high school, over 1,600 students. She walked in the door & cried in my arms because the upper classmen were mean, but she survived it. This week is much better & no more tears. Football games & dances is all we hear about now! I love your blog, keep the great work! I hope I win this awesome giveaway!
My sister always sends pics of my niece and nephews on their first day of school and from the expression on their faces they were very excited and had a good first day back.
My niece starts school today. She is very excited however her mom is already crying.
My cousin, Madi started school last Tuesday. She was SO excited to get back to school. I had a great time taking her back to school shopping. She is now a big first grader.
I tweeted the giveaway @justnikkig!
Zach, our 6 year old, started kindergarten this year. Over the summer, he claimed to be nervous, but at open house he was excited and then for the first day, he was thrilled. Needless to say, he has loved everyday since and has been ready to go back for more.
Ha, Ha, I had to laugh at your post about your son saying “I don’t know” when asked what he did in school. My daughter started 4 year old preschool today and had the exact same response when I asked her! She finally let me know that she made friends, sang songs and had a snack (but she can’t remember what it was).
Her 1 1/2 year old brother, who usually doesn’t want her anywhere near him, had a big hug and kiss for her when she got home. It was so sweet!
My son was so excited to return to preschool that he got in the car in the garage 20 minutes early. I told him a few times how much longer it would be but he chose to sit out there the whole time, ready to go.
Although technically my daughter doesn’t start pre-school until Friday, we did have an “orientation” day. She had a blast. The two highlights were making a lanyard/keychain bead craft and playing in the water table. When we left, she proclaimed loudly, “I LOVE school.” All good…. I hope Friday goes as well.
I love your attitude about his 1st day of school! My daughter is only 29 months old, so no school yet, and she is the oldest grandkid, so no nieces or nephews – but I will be nervous for her 1st day, when that time comes. Hopefully I can reflect back on your attitude of excitement. That will be so much better for her because I think she would feed off my attitude, so I better be careful not to show my nervousness when the time comes!!

My oldest loves going back to school, she loves the access to the additional library resources at her fingertips!! My youngest started a week after she did and asked every day if it was his turn to go yet???
my nephews love school
I shared about this great giveaway as part of my weekly Wonderful Wednesday post.

My son was so excited to start kindergarten this year. As soon as he walked out the gate when I picked him up after school he said, “MOm, it was GREAT!”
My daughter did great on her first day of 1st grade. She had her outfit picked out and was ready to go. The whole family went to drop her off and when she came home, she gave me a full run down of her day. Then she went out to ride her bike for an hour, had dinner and was asleep by 730.
My kids loved their first day of school. Tradition for us has been to take a picture on that day to share forever.
This past month….my oldest started his first day of college (pre-med).
I wanted to cry….way more than Kindergarten days!
π
My 1st grader came home after his first day and said he liked the 1st grade, but I need to call his teacher tonight and talk to her…. I thought not the first day and already I have to call the tacher!?!?..but he said I need to talk to her because she forgot to give them a rest time!!LOL

My daughter first day of school went pretty well. She was nervous the day before so i reassured her by letting her know how great it will be and that she will be making new friends and having fun learning.
She felt better and daddy took the day off π She came back home happy as can be.

We home school and started school up again this last Monday. It was great! My daughter really loves learning and was very excited, but I was surprised by how quickly we went through the work I had planned. Thank you for this generous giveaway π
My daughter started 3rd grade, my son started 1st grade and my third (out of four) started preschool this year. All three were So excited to go back to school!!!! It’s going to be a great year π
My daughter did great on her first day back at school. She is enjoying her classes!
Kids did better than Me! I get a little weepy every year. Just can’t believe their getting so big.
She loved it; so did mom. π
My boys did great on their first day of school. Three in school this year and one at home.
my nephew loved it
This was such a great & easy back to school year. My daughter is a 5th grader (the last year in her elementary school) and my son is in 2nd. They had both been at that same school last year, so there was a high comfort level. I dropped them off that 1st day (they had all their supplies with them, so I didn’t want them lugging them on the bus). They kissed me, said goodbye, got out of the car & never looked back. Sigh…they’re getting so old…

My baby started kindergarten (I also have one in 5th & one in 2nd). I didn’t cry like I thought I would, but the house was sure quiet that day. Megan loves school & it’s great to see her excitement at what she’s learned each day.
My son is now at junior high. He was very nervous, but he likes it so much better then Elementary. I’m gonna miss those Elementary programs and special events.
Back to school was tough for us. We moved over the summer and my second-grader started a brand new schoo. Needless to say, she was missing her old school and friends and there were tears. I got to walk in with her into her class room and stay for 5-10 minutes. But as soon as I was about to leave, I could see the sad look in her eyes. She was trying to be brave and not cry in front of her class. The whole first week went pretty much like that.

I was terrified of dropping off my daughter at preschool for the first day, not knowing how she would handle it. To my surprise, she walked right in, had a seat and got busy. I was so proud of her.
my daughter will be 3 next month and has always gone to a Christian daycare. She just transferred into the preschool room and loves it! But she gets homework!
I started homeschooling my eldest daughter and she loves it. She is so excited to be reading and learning so much – she loves her school time.
I thought this was Hilarious!!! My neice goes to wake up her stepson dreading what that first morning might bring. She says “time to wake up & get ready for your first day of school”. He rolls over jumps of of the bed and says WOOOO HOOOO!!!! I think she was very relieved.
My youngest started pre-school this fall, a day he’s been waiting for for 2 years already. EVERY DAY he would watch his brother and sister get on their buses and cry, “but I want to go to school too!”
But finally that day arrived. I drove him to his preschool and he went in with hardly a good-bye to me! And picking him up, it seems that he was not disappointed!
I have a baby, but not old enough for school. My nephew’s live in Kansas City and they LOVE back to school. They both enjoyed their first day – the older one was happy because he got the ‘boy teacher’ this year and the younger just loves school in general. They talk about it all summer!
My daughter’s first day of preschool was on Thursday, at the same preschool I attended. Unfortunately I had to work, Daddy took her to school and even put pigtails in her hair. She came home with a library book and Fruit Loop necklace π
No kiddos old enough for school yet….nor nieces or nephews. Thank goodness! I feel old enough as it is, can’t imagine how old I’ll feel once they are in school!
My 5 year olds first day was so exciting for her and so hard for me but her excitement actually helped me do better then I thought I would. She is very shy and despite that she loves school! Yeah.
When I took my 4 year old for his first day of pre-k, he sat on the sidewalk and said “I’m not going in there and you can’t make me!!!”. I said “well you can go to school or we can go home and you can help me clean”. He said “bye mom, love ya” and off he went.

My own children are still not in school, but this was the first year for my friend to homeschool her children and they did great! I am so proud of her and them in their new venture!
My son did great on his first day back to school (1st grade). It was the second day that he started crying.
My kids did fairly well considering they were the new kids in town and didn’t know a single soul. A couple tears were shed by one but the others were brave(and shy).I feared my Kindergartner would be the one to have a melt down but he did fine
My nephew was READY for second grade to start (and was so happy to have a “pretty teacher” too!
Thanks for encouraging folks to share – great blog!
My son is a sophomore in a very small school (around 80 – 100 students K4 – 12th). They’re all in one building but it’s a big deal when they enter Middle School (7th grade) because they go “upstairs”. I volunteered at school a LOT when he was in 6th grade so that summer before school got ready to start he very sweetly told me that it was okay if I didn’t want to be at school “all the time” anymore. He wasn’t trying to be mean, but just wanted me to know that I didn’t have to feel like I had to be there. I said “okay”, reserved my tears for one of my friends and gave him some space. It helped that in a school this small, there’s only so much space you can get π
I blogged about it here: https://westkycouponlady.blogspot.com/2009/09/50-hallmark-gc-giveaway-at-common-sense.html Thanks!
My son is only 3. He has not started school yet, but I just know that I will have more of a hard time with it than he will. I have only one child so you can see how this will be harder on my than him. Lol!

My daughter entered 10th grade this year. She was both nervous and excited. She does enjoy seeing her pals again. She also likes the classes she is taking.
great giveaway
We are homeschoolers, and so our routine is a bit different than most. We had a special snack during our read aloud time, and just enjoyed being together.

All four of my children did pretty well on their first day back. I homeschool, so my 3rd grader wanted to start back in the middle of July!!! I made him wait two more weeks, though.
My favorite third-grader did fabulous! She was so ready to get back and she told me her 3rd grade homework was soooo easy! Too adorable.
Thanks for doing the giveaway!

My daughter’s 1st day at preschool is Tueday. She’s been counting the days, so I expect it will go very well, but you never know! We just moved here 2 weeks ago! Thanks!
Both of us had a great first day of preschool-no tears, just excitement!

our first day was the 24th… and my class full of kindergarteners did really well, i was so proud of them… now their teacher on the other hand was ready for a vacation after the first day π
My twins started preschool this week! They had so much fun, they ask to go back every day – even the weekend.
