I was very sad to see a counterfeit coupon alert posted on Hotcouponworld this afternoon. It’s very alarming but this time the list of coupons the CIC has labeled as fraudulent is 81 coupons long. That is a lot of coupons out there that stores won’t be reimbursed on and that will cause stores to become even more unwilling to accept printable coupons.
I ask you to please check out the list of fraudulent coupons distributed by the Coupon Information Center. If you receive any of these coupons via email please alert the sender that the coupon is not a valid coupon and advise they stop using the coupon. Also, please read this post I wrote about counterfeit coupons almost a year ago. It is very important that as coupon users we are aware of the validity of the coupons we use. Unfortunately coupon counterfeiters hurt us all.
Click here to see all 81 counterfeit coupons listed.
Sadly, I was told at the local Wal Mart by two managers that they no longer accept printable coupons as a result of fraud. I was really bummed because the closest Target or Wal Mart is 40 minutes away, and it is tough to have to drive that far with two boys ages, 18 months and 6 months.
That’s taking it a little too far on their part. There are legitimate internet coupons. Many of the coupons printed from the BIG sites have watermarks right on the coupons. Those can not be copied. There are stores that will not take an internet coupon if it won’t scan. That I can understand. I know sometimes they can enter the upc #’s in manually too. Sometimes it works that way, but not when scanned. That’s the same thing they have to do when they enter in the upc off of an item that they sell in the store, and it won’t scan. I think it’s still legit that way too. Idk, though. Maybe somebody could take the upc off of a legit coupon, and put it on the fraudulent coupon to make it go through this way.
The coupon values on most of those coupons are so ridiculously high that I don’t know how anyone could believe they were real.
When I used my free International Delight creamer coupon ($1.60), the cashier had to check with their Loss Prevention to make sure it was a legit coupon. When she returned she said they’ve been getting lots of fake internet coupons and she apologized for the delay. I thanked her for checking as this only not benefit the store but for the honest people as well.
Thank you for posting this great info!!!
My daughter recently started needing soy milk and so I checked ebay to see if there were any recent coupons that I could buy as a lot, and I saw a lot of $2 off any SoyMilk. The listing says there is no expiration date and that they were printed… does that not sound fraudulent? Should I call Silk to find out?
Will you post the list here? I can’t seem to get the document on CIC to open.
Thanks.
Hi Teresa,
Here’s a link to the full list

my last visit to walmart i had just over $40 in coupons, most of them were printable…the cashier looked at each one (took a while) she took all but one…she told me if the computer wouldnt take the coupon, they were not able to force the amount on printable coupons. had no problem w/the free pint of creamer coupon =)
You can go to hotcouponworld.com and type “counterfeit” in the search box and you’ll see a post with the list of the coupons.
This is so sad! How could people do this? It ruins it for the rest of us! Pretty soon retailers will stop taking coupons because they don’t know if they are true or not!!!
Is there anyway you can post the list of frad. coupons? I am not so good around Hot Coupon World & hate having to sign in. I rarely go to that site b/c it seems to cluttered. I would really appreciate it.
A BOGO Nintendo Wii? That is laughable. Who would believe THAT? Our local Dollar General will not take printed coupons and they do not like to take the mailed coupons that look printed either.
I thought the same thing about the wii coupon. That’s ridiculous!

Wow! According to this link, the recent Dove deodorant coupon from December is fraudulent:
https://www.cents-off.com/doc/Reward_Unilever_December14_2009.pdf
Weird that Dove q would be fraudulent. I printed that one from the Dove website. How could this be?
Weird that Dove coupon would be fraudulent. I printed that one from the Dove website. How could this be?
If it sounds to good to be true then don’t go with it.
OMG! I printed that q from Dove’s website too! I thought coupons from Dove’s website were legitimate?!! eek… I remember all of us running to target for the free or cheap dove visibly smooth! Someone please tell me I didn’t use a falsy coupon… please!
I am only making assumptions here but I wondered if what happened with that coupon is that people made copies and used copies as well. That would cause over-redemption of a coupon and create a flag. I think at this point what Unilever/Dove is saying is don’t accept that coupon anymore.
Mercedes
Surely if it was from their website it had to be legit… I printed that one at least 6 times from different computers. I don’t see how someone could post it on a company’s site if it was fake.
Mercedes Here: I have removed these comments.
also to the previous posters regarding common sense with respect to the counterfeit coupons- I would beg to differ on some of these. $1 off SmartOnes, $1.75 off Reddi-Whip, etc. I hardly think those are obvious or too good to be true.
@kirsten Opinionated much? It is not illegal or immoral to print a second set of coupons with access to a second computer. As long as its not a copy or a counterfeit the merchants and manufacturers have no reason to care who uses them or how many they use. Would it be wrong for a friend to print me a coupon they dont intend to use?? Its a lot less wrong than talking down to people the way you do. Couponing is supposed to be fun, don’t be buzz kill.
thanks for coming to my defense Betty. I don’t see anything wrong with printing from seperate computers. especially when 1/2 of what I buy is to give to those who need it…
Carrie – I dont see anything wrong with printing from other computers either.
My mom prints me coupons that she does not intend to use but knows that I will. If she doesnt need diapers and I do I dont see what is wrong with this. If she has 2 computers it is her right to print two sets of coupons from each.
I have a laptop AND a desktop – Does that mean I am not allowed that many coupons…. because I did not see that in the small print anywhere…. Looks like we might be just making up our own gripes for the sake of it!!!!!
Kristen,
does that mean that when i pay for additional papers for more coupons that is fraud also?!?
I am paying for the paper and ink and the cost of the additional printer, since I own two in my home. I totally understand why they limit prints per computer, but if it really was not legal to print from multiple coupons then wouldn’t it be addressed on the sights we are printing from? do you not think that these companies are not reading these types of websites to keep up with current trends and info? wouldn’t they have contacted these sights to say, “don’t tell people they can print from multiple coupons?” Target made sure to contact sights to make sure noone posts their ads ahead of time, so I am sure this would have been addressed several times if it were indeed ILLEGAL/violation as you tried to imply.
But we all appreciate the kind way you addressed carrie. there is a reason why couth exists.
so flustered i typed coupon a few times i meant computer.
and i was referring to newspapers in my first sentence, not computer paper.
Kirsten,
Forget printing from multiple computers…. I am extremely offended at the “redneck” vs. “ghettofabulous” comment. The insinuations you made are sterotypical and ignorant.
to Kirsten – All I have to say is, “Oh, my word!” Are you kidding me!!!! I own 3 computers. When I know I will need that many coupons for a deal, I certainly print them. Get over it!!! If that makes you mad, then you will be ticked to know that ladies in the church as well as family members print for me as well. Guess what! A ton of the stuff (MOST)I get goes to charity. They are legit coupons used the correct way. You really need to quit condemning others; especially since they are doing nothing wrong. And, if any are, that’s their business now your’s!
Hi Guys,
I want to thank everyone that has commented on this post for trying to maintain a civil tone. However, I am going to go ahead and close the comments right now. In general I do not delete comments or close comment threads but I feel this one is starting to go south. We are all here to help each other save money. So let’s try to get back to that and to maintain the encouraging tone usually found on this blog.
Thank you so much for reading my blog and I hope you will understand.
