CNN Money has this series going on called “America’s Money: In their own words.” These are stories submitted by people like you and me with families like yours and mine.
This series has been there for a few days at least maybe two weeks. I don’t know for sure. At the beginning I didn’t want to read it because I knew it would be more of the same story: people in debt or struggling to make ends meet due to their own prior actions.
Last night I spent some time reading these stories. I feel bad about having been so quick to disregard them earlier. I think sometimes it is very easy to pass judgment on a situation, particularly if we have never been in that situation. I think it’s very easy to sit in our sheltered lives and go: “I would have never done that,” or “I would never let that happen to me.” I have been guilty of this. But the thing is that life happens and it happens every second we breath.
Unfortunately a job loss, illness or even death are things we have no control over and are also things that can make a significant impact in our lives and the way we live them. Humbleness is a hard trait to practice everyday. Lets make an effort to walk even less than a mile in someone else’s shoes before passing judgment and be grateful for the wonderful things our lives have been blessed with.
