It can be a royal pain when you’re in a situation where you need to come up with some cash in a quick manner. I’ll never forget when my husband and I thought we were doing good just to pay the bills, but then one day his truck broke down. His truck was his daily driver, so we had to come up with quite a bit of cash and in a quick manner. As I said above, we were doing good just to pay the bills at this point in time, so we didn’t have any money set aside for emergency purposes or anything like that.
So, what did we do to be able to get his vehicle fixed, so he could have a way to get back and forth to work? Well, we needed money quick, so we had to get really creative. However, we were able to get the cash we needed and we also ended up getting a little bit more than we needed. Below, you’ll find some tips on how to make money with what you already have in your home.
#1. Start Looking for Change.
A lot of people think it’s a joke when people say they’re looking for some change under the couch cushions, but my husband and I really did this. We started looking through our nightstands, old purses, old wallets, the couch cushions, old coats, washing machines and every drawer in the house. We also looked under every bit of furniture we had. By the time it was all said and done, we were able to find an astonishing $200 extra dollars in the home that we didn’t even know about. Once we had our change in hand, we went to our bank and traded our change for bills.
#2. Sell What You Don’t Need.
Do you have some books or movies lying around in your house that you don’t read or watch anymore? Maybe your kids have certain toys they don’t play with anymore. Whatever you have in your home that you don’t need you can make some money off of it. I would suggest possibly hosting a yard sale or you could even go the online route and trying to sell things on eBay, but that requires a fee. If you want to go the free route, but have a smaller audience you could try listing your items on Craigslist. Selling on Craigslist will also enable you to charge more for your items.
#3. Rent Out a Spare Bedroom
If you own your own home, you could always consider renting out a spare bedroom in your house. Now, I know this isn’t an option for everyone, but I know people that have done this and they’ve made some very good money. I know people that have made anywhere from $250 – $1,000. If you want, you could even consider renting out your whole home for a week or so to people that are on vacation. Of course, you’d have to stay somewhere else, but it’s a thought.
