As a stay at home mom, you’re probably in the house at least 95% of the time, so it can be extremely easy to become bored of your surroundings fairly quickly. Therefore, I regularly switch things up in my home, so it’s a little bit more exciting and fresh to me. Now, it can be really tempting just to get a new home and move the whole family, but if you’re a stay at home mom and a frugal person, you’re probably on a very strict budget, so moving isn’t an option. Remodeling your home is another thing you could do, but once again, you probably don’t have the budget to make this happen.
It costs a ton of money to move or renovate your home, so what do you do if that’s not an option to you? Well, you have to do what we frugal moms do best — get creative. Take a step back, look around your home and see what you can do with your current situation that won’t take too much effort and too much money. With just a pinch of creativity, you can completely transform your home and give it a whole new look and feel. Below, I’m going to outline some tips that will help you accomplish this.
#1. Clean Your Home
This is one of the very first things you can do. Having a cluttered house is something that particularly gets on my nerves. I hate it when I go into the kitchen and I see that there have been tons of papers scattered all over the table or I look in my closet and see that I was in too much of a hurry one day and all my shoes are scattered all over the place. If you de-clutter your house you will de-clutter your mind and this will spark creativity.
#2. Take a Step Back
Now that you have a clean house, you’ll have a much better idea of what your options are. Take a step back, look at your home and then start to envision how you can make some changes. Pretend this is the first time you’ve ever walked into your home and no furniture or anything exists. Now, think about where you would put everything if this was the first time you came in your home. I mean, if you couldn’t arrange it how things are right now. Just reorganizing your furniture can give your home a whole new look. Even if you only end up changing the position of the television or an end table, you’re at least making some changes.
#3. Go to Garage/Yard Sales or Thrift Stores for Accessories
I just did a post on garage sales and how you can find hidden gems at them. I have found tons of accessories for my home at garage/yard sales and thrift stores. You’ll be amazed at what you can get for only a couple of bucks. Just shop around and imagine where accessories could go that would give your home some extra flare. I know everything you find isn’t going to be in amazing shape, but this can also work to your advantage. Remember, the antique look is in.
