A few days ago I shared how shopping for back to school items was one of my favorite times growing up as a child. I grew up enjoying going to school. Getting ready to start a new year and be able see my friends again made for a really exciting time for me. At the time I know I couldn’t grasp exactly how much of a financial burden this was on my parents. In addition to having to buy supplies and school books, they also had to worry about paying tuition. Unlike here in the United States, the public school system in my home country is not as reliable. My family had to make a lot of sacrifices to be able to put us through private school on our family’s limited income.
My favorite memories always involve me going shopping with my mom. That was always a lot of fun and almost an adventure. To this day my mom doesn’t know how to drive, and besides we didn’t have a second car, so we always took the public bus. I loved going to bookstores to find the best deals on school supplies. Oh! how much would my mom have loved having sales circulars or blogs or any other resource to get the best deals. Back in those days, everyone had to do the research on their own and actually hunt for those deals in person, not virtually like we are able to do now.
Thanks to the internet all of this information and deals are readily available to us and we can make it work to our advantage. However, sending your kids to school is still expensive and it could take a chunk of cash from your budget. In case you didn’t read it, make sure to check out my tips on Back to School Shopping for Less. To further help you on your back to school shopping I am happy to be able to give away a $100 Visa Gift Card sponsored by Hallmark. That’s right! you can take this card to the store of your choice and use it to buy those back to school items still on your list.

I too loved going to buy school supplies growing up. I have several favorite memories of school supply shopping. My mom would take my brothers and myself to Office Depot to shop. (She didn’t do couponing at the time). Although we always had plenty of pens and pencils, folders, binders, etc. left over in our supply cabinet, I ALWAYS had to buy EVERYTHING on my list every summer. And of course I had to have the bright colors 🙂 I still to this day LOVE buying school supplies…esp. the colored pens. Although I do not have any kids (yet), I would love the giftcard so that I could stock up for the future, and also give away supplies to families and schools in need. Some people really do not have the resources to buy school supplies…and for multiple kids.
My favorite was the back to school clothes shopping with my mom. Going home to try them and and see how many different outfits I could put together. And seeing how many days I could go without wearing the same thing twice.
Seeing my friends again was the best.
I loved going up to my grandma’s house and then off to the JCPenny outlet center. I loved getting new clothes and spending time with both my mom and grandma.
I just shared on twitter.
I loved shopping for new school clothes with my mom.
My favorite back to school memory was visiting school to check the class lists and seeing what teacher I had 🙂
My favorite back to school memory is yet to come. My son is just entering kindergarten this month and I can’t wait for all the excitement of new experiences that are coming.

My favorite back to school memory was actually getting all of our back to school stuff, we didn’t have a lot of $$ growing up so everything was always put on lawaway. We could never take things home the same day, but when the day came when we got all that stuff it was wonderful…almost like Christmas!
My favorite memory is the first day of school pictures I always took of my children, sometimes at home..sometimes at school in the class room.
I always like shopping for new clothes! One big shopping trip with my mom and sister.
My favorite back to school memory is in 8th grade I was going to new school and my mom let us go shopping a few weeks before. I was so excited for my first day of school with my rocking new outfit! We have pictures and it just reminds me of the excitement each new school year brings for kids as it did for me! I was happy to find a few of my childhood friends actually went to school there to!! That was a great year!
My little boy will be going to school in a year and I can’t believe how fast time has passed… I hope he has all the great excitement I did as a kid going to a new school on the first day! 🙂
my favorite memory was always deciding with my friends which would be the new outfit to wear on the first day and hoping it wouldn’t be too warm for that new sweater!
This sounds funny, but I remember the smell of new school supplies! In college, I worked part time at Mead Paper Products, and I can say, paper has it’s own unique smell. I still get excited about buying new notebooks, pens, pencils, etc.
I remember the excitment of shopping for a backpack and going to a lot a stores to find the perfect one.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Claudia
Wearing your new bestest, most favorite outfit for the first day of school no matter how hot it was! Always made me feel special.
Plaid jumpers and tights. I loved getting to wear these!
I always loved going back-to-school shopping. I loved school and this was a sign that it was going to start up again soon. I would painstakingly label my supplies with my name and anxiously await the day I would put them in my new desk and start the new year!
Our parents always taught us to enjoy school and I always LOVED going shopping for new school supplies. I’m so glad to hear that I’m not the only one who enjoyed it. 🙂

My favorite memory was watching my daughter’s excitment as she picked out her new school clothes for her first day of pre-school. She was so excited about going to school. She is now 10 and still can’t wait for the first day of school.
Shopping for new school clothes & supplies. The smell of both of them and the anticipation was so much fun!!
I also twittered about your giveaway! 🙂
My favorite memory is seeing friends again after the summer off of school. My best friend lived out in the country, so I didn’t see her much during the summer.
KellyH
I was home schooled, but we still looked forward to picking out new notebooks, pens, pencils, etc. I still love getting new office supplies, and I’m prego with my first! It truly is the simple things in life!
I loved getting new school supplies. Pens and Markers are my favorite! (Funny, I still love this) I also loved picking out my outfit the night before School started.
My favorite back to school memory would have to be the first day of 6th grade , i thought i was so cool cause i was going to be in the oldest class. I always looked up to the older kids and wanted to be where they were too.
My birthday is in early September. I remember getting new Fall clothes to wear to school. One year I remember wearing my new long sleeved white blouse and yellow jumper when it was about 95 degrees outside. Not very practical!
I tweeted about this giveaway @nwadeals

I loved shopping for back to school clothes with my mom and getting all the new school supplies. There was something about a clean new note book for me. I could not wait to start the school year.
My favorite things about school shopping was going shopping with my mom and younger sister. We got to pick out one “cool” design notebook and folder. My sister always picked the same as me! She will never admit that now.
my favorite back to school experience was shopping!!!!
My favorite memory is the smell of new crayons, and how sharp they were and so fun to color with! Having a new outfit for the first day was also something I looked forward to.
growing up in the summers we did not see alot of classmates over the summer, sorta stuck in our little area, so it was exciting to see the new looks and old friends..I loved shopping for school supplies, something new, and back then there were not huge sales
My favorite memory was getting everything ready the night before… all of the new “stuff” and the anticipation of the next day.
I have no yearly memories, just a one time thing. For whatever reason, the 4 of us were going to different week long camps that summer. When my sister was gone my mom took me to the mall, a rarity for us, and we picked out 3 new outfits. She did the same when my sister was home and I was gone. It was such a pleasant surprise at the time, we had a blast.
When I was younger I enjoyed back to school because it was one of the few times I got new stuff! My mom always made sure we had new everything from head to toe, socks to hair ribbons. Now I am the same way with my kids. My 10 yr old started asking about back to school shopping at the end of June and already has a list. My three yr old is excited to get a new backpack and lunchkit even though she is not starting school this year and will still be at home with grandma.
My grandma started a tradition when I began kindergarten, where I held up a sign with the date and what grade I was starting. My mom took a picture and posted them in my baby book. I remember her taking one that marked the beginning and one that marked the ending of the school year. I’m going to start that tradition with my daughter who starts kindergarten this fall.
I loved seeing the excitement of my kids as they were seeing old friends and meeting new ones. My kids were never scared their first day – just barged right into the classroom ready to have fun.
My favorite memory from back to school when I was little was when I got to go shopping with my grandma to pick out some new school clothes. It would be a special day with just me and my grandma. We went to this department store that we would never shop at usually and I got to try on a whole bunch of clothes and pick out my favorites. I LOVED it!
My favorite memory of going back to school, like yours, was all the new school supplies!! I loved picking out that new stuff each year and getting it all set to go in my backpack. I hated opening it all and using it ;-).
My favorite memory was meeting my new teachers and seeing what friends I go in my classes.
I loved shopping for school supplies and new school clothes. Every year, my Grandmother would take me shopping, and I couldn’t wait to wear all of my new clothes!
My favorite memory was going school-supply & new clothes shopping with my mom.
Shared on twitter (valerie_cudnik)
I remember being so excited to start school I would sleep in my clothes so I would be sure to be ready, never mind I would look all wrinkled by the time I got to school!
I loved back to school shopping! When I was younger my aunt would take me and I was able to get some of the “special” school supplies that my parents would not allow me to get because they were not needed or too expensive! Thank you for a wonderful blog!
i always loved getting all my new clothes and school supplies. it was the only time i got clothes other than christmas and bday. i couldn’t wait to wear them that 1st week even if it was too hot.
My favorite was going the first day and seeing if any of your friends were in your class!
My favorite memory of going back to school was when my first born daughter(now 15) started school. She was so excited about riding the “big yellow bus” and meeting her new teacher. We took toothless pictures of her in her new school clothes with her backpack on that was bigger than she was and holding her little pink barbie lunchbox. I cried when she got on the bus but they were a mixture of happy and sad tears. Happy she was growing up and sad she was growing up!
A favorite memory of school was doing circle time with the 6th graders whom I taught – we did that each Friday at the end of the day – it was a great way to really get to know the students on a personal level and to know how to pray for them.
Even though we lived less than a block from school, I still always looked forward to going back. I *loved* school. I’d usually go back the week before when the teachers were setting up their classrooms and offer to help. In retrospect, it was probably because it was one of the few times I actually had individual attention from an adult (I’m #6 out of 7 kids…).
I remember that I cried & cried in kindergarten for my parents and later in the day and to my delight, while I was coloring a picture of an own pink, my father was at the door! The teacher didn’t call for him, but he must have sensed that I really, really needed to see him!!!
I was always excited for Back to School, because I was so bored in the summer! Back to School shopping wasn’t so much fun though, because was my family was poor. But I have many fond memories of kind people from the church and other places giving us the supplies that I needed.
My favorite back to school memory is shopping for new clothes and school supplies. I always loved getting new pencils and a new backpack, and ofcourse anything else I could convince my parents I “needed.”
One of my favorite memories is shopping for school clothes with my Grandma. So fun!
My favorite back-to-school memory is probably going shopping one year with my Grandma for back-to-school clothes. She let me pick out all kinds of outfits that my Mom would never have spent the money on. I was a teenager and so I was so happy to start the new year with “cool” clothes. It was a treat to shop with reckless abandon that one year.
My favorite back-to-school memory is of my very first day of school. I had an Ewoks lunch box and Shirt Tales backpack, and I was so excited to be able to go to the same school as my older sister.
felling like a million dollars going with new clothes – supplies
My favorite memory is when I first went school shopping for my first child 7 years ago. Now he is starting junior high….
We would drive about 3 hours South to Reading, Pennsylvania because the clothes were tax-free. I could pick out whatever clothing I wanted (within reason, of course). We’d stay at a hotel overnight after the shopping. I remember hoping for plaid skirts, although I don’t recall ever owning one.
I always loved going back to school on the first day… meeting all my new teachers and finding out what we were going to learn about, plus seeing how much everyone had changed over the summer!
My favorite part of going back to school was always seeing which friends were in my class
I always loved to go clothes shopping for back-to-school. I especially loved driving an hour away to the outlets so that we could get more stuff than at the regular stores, that was always fun. I was a bargain hunter then and still am to this day while back to school shopping for my 4 girls! 🙂
i twittered! thanks for the chance!

my favorite back to school memory is shopping for school supplies at target. i LOVED the lisa frank stuff!
I remember going shopping with my mom for the perfect back to school outfits, picking out the cutest one to wear the night before the first day of school and then laying in bed, unable to sleep, the night before.
The only thing I looked forward to about going back to school and still is now that I’m a school counselor, is seeing friends. 🙂 I love summer and it’s carefree days.
My parents always had a limited budget. So when it came to school supply shopping, the generic or cheap versions of anything were the choices. I didn’t mind, it’s just the way it was. However, I remember the year when my mother bought the Crayola markers. I was in hog heaven. I thought I had won the lottery. It’s a little thing, but it still sticks in mind.
i justed tweeted your giveaway on twitter (EADFL)

My favorite was going shopping for new clothes with my mom.
So many fun memories of getting ready to go back to school. I loved picking out a new lunch box. Deciding what to wear the 1st day of school was always such an important decision! 🙂

I remember going to kindergarten–my class was the first kindergarten class at the school. I recall mom selecting my special clothes and how excited I was to be going. The kindergarten class lasted all of 6 weeks that year!
Now I get excited helping my 3 grandsons select the fun notebooks and backpacks!
I just shared this on Facebook!
My favorite school memory was on my birthdays my Mom use to bring in cupcakes and little ice cream cups with the little wooden spoons. That day my teacher was always so nice to everyone.

My favorite memory was my mom getting me one of those plastic pencil shaped pencil/pen holder with a zippered lid. I’m not sure why I remembered that, but I do remember thinking that this pencil holder was sooo awesome! Thanks for the chance to win.
I would look forward to getting me teacher assignment in the mail all summer long. When it would arrive, my friends and I would spend the day seeing if we were in class together.
I loved shopping for school clothes. My mom and I would hit every clearance rack in town. And the night before school, trying to decide exactly what to wear.
The thing I always remember about going back to school is my mom taking our picture standing on the school bus. She did it every year, even our junior high and early high school years. At the time, you can tell I wasn’t too thrilled. But now as a mother, I realize how precious those times were for my parents.
My favorite memory or going back to school was packing up my backpack with all of the new stuff to start school with, and of getting new clothes as that only happened at the beginning of every school year.
I loved shipping for back to school supplies! I love supplies to this day. I looked forward to it all summer.
I loved shopping for school supplies (I still love stationery) and used to get very excited using my new school supplies..I would consciously write very neatly in the beginning of books and use all of my stationery very carefully the first couple of times!
I loved to pick out my notebook and backpack for the year! So fun to pick from all the pretty designs.
I just tweeted this!
My best memory is just feeling so new and fresh with all new supplies and clothes.

My family had 5 children and every end of July/early August, my mom would reserve a specific day where she would take us each back-to-school shopping by OURSELVES for clothes and school supplies. We also got to choose where we ate lunch. It was such a fun tradition that I still cherish today…there weren’t too many times when we had our mom to ourselves for an entire day!
My favorite memories of elementary and high school are all the lifelong friends I made. Some of them went to elementary and high school with me! I am still friends with quite a few of them, and I am 65! I remember being nominated for Homecoming Queen and how surprised I was. I remember being on the Drill Team and Treasurer, Secretary for the Kiser Panther News, the Sock Hops, In-house Parties, Alumni Dances, Football/Basketball games; the neverending dancesteps; The Twist, The Monkey, The Jerk The Hand Jive, The Birdland, The Watusi, The Locomotion, etc., etc.; I just loved to dance, and still do!! I sure do miss those days; they fly by so quickly. In 2012, we will be celebrating our 50th year anniversary of when we graduated. WOW, it just doesn’t seem like it! I hope that I will be able to return to Ohio to attend!

My favorite memory is having all my new outfits and supplies all laid out and ready to go the night before school. I LOVED it!!!
My favorite was going to the uniform store to get new school uniforms. Weird… I know!
Mine was always going shopping with my Mom and figuring out which new outfit to buy and wear on the first day of school! Looking back it’s too funny, I was so concerned about the first day, and the rest of the week I would wear my older clothes :c)
i used to live across the street from a school and when I saw everyone at school I went too. I just wasn’t old enough to go yet. They sent me back home but i kept going back. So they let me stay but of course I had to repeat kindergarten.
I shared this on facebook!
Shopping for new clothes and shoes is my favorite Back to School memory.
My best friend and I would spend HOURS deciding on our back-to-school outfits for the first day. And the weather never cooperated – it would be ninety degrees and we’d wear new sweaters! Thanks for the giveaway…
i tweeted about your giveaway
@deefna
I absolutely LOVED going to pick out school supplies…I loved picking out all of the fun pens and pencils and that one great year…a Trapper Keeper with a cute puppy on the front!
I remember the walk to the bus stop best. My grandfather would pick me up at the door and hold my hand as we crossed the road to the bus stop. He always seemed so interested in my stories and made me feel better about riding the big, scary bus! What I would give now to have one more walk with my grandfather!
I loved shopping for new clothes during back to school shopping. Another favorite memory is opening all the school supplies and using them for the first time!
I twittered about the give away
My favorite memory is that my parents gave us a clothing budget. I was a frugal kid, my oldest brother loved name brands.
I would always come home with bags, upon bags, upon bags of clothing and my oldest brother would have 3 bags of name brand clothing (no exaggeration!) I loved getting more for my $ even at a young age!
i was a teacher before i was married…i loved the newness of every single year. new books, new crayons!, eager children…starting fresh made the beginning of every school year a favorite time of year.
I posted on facebook about the giveaway.
My favorite back to school memory is this year with my son. He is starting kindergarten at the end of the month and seeing his excitement over the new supplies and his cool Lightning McQueen backpack and lunchbox makes me feel so happy for him. I loved Kindergarten the most and I hope that he enjoys school too.
I am a teacher, so I have back to school memories every year as August rolls around! Every year is a little different, but it’s always exciting to see the faces of the new students as they come down the hall.
My favorite back-to-school memory was probably actually one of my first: visiting school for the first time and seeing how fun it was going to be. I remember being so excited about learning.
I tweeted this giveaway.
My first born starts kindergarten later this month, so I’m anxious to see what back to school memories we will have in the near future! I know my memories were always going school shopping on a budget!
One year my sister and I tried to go to sleep at 6:00 p.m. the night before school started so we could wake up super early the next day. The sun was still out when we were in bed, and we ended up falling asleep later than we usually did because we were so excited!
This is posted on my Facebook.
My mom always took pictures of us on the first day of school. When I was younger, my sister and I were both in Catholic school so we wore uniforms, but I still loved the ritual of it. It wasn’t until middle school that I got to pick out my own outfits!
My favorite memory isn’t about the first day of school, but of the weeks that followed. Growing up in the North the start of school also marked the beginning of autumn. Falling leaves, bonfires and hearing the H.S. marching band practice from my house (we lived less than a mile away) are fond childhood memories. Fall is still my favorite time of the year!
I was homeschooled and we didn’t buy a lot of new supplies or clothes but I always liked looking at the new textbooks and being excited to start them.
My favorite thing about going back to school was catching up with my friends that I hadn’t seen all summer.
I loved going to school. I think it was the challenge more than anything. Being the best academically I stood a chance, unlike sports or popularity!
My favorite memory of the first day of school was posing for a photo with my siblings near a young tree located in front of our house. Each year we grew (as did the tree) and it is fun to look back and see us in our uniforms with different hairstyles and glasses, noting the passage of time. It is a tradition that I have carried on with my own children and that they, too, have come to cherish!
Much like you I loved getting ready for school. There is something about the smell of new school supplies that is just great. My favorite memories of school were always going to get a new back to school outfit for the first day and picking out supplies. I loved getting crisp new notebooks. Now I’m glad to get to do that with my oldest for the first time this year.
Thanks for the giveaway!
My favorite back to school memory is my grandmother taking me to Wal Mart to pick out all my favorite characters (mainly Lisa Frank). I would ask and beg in July to start school shopping and once we got the supplies I would arrange and rearrange my new bookbag and supplies until school started.
This was better than Christmas!
We also didn’t have a car growing up, but we were lucky enough that all the major stores with BTS deals were within walking distance. My mom and I would check out what was on sale and stock up as much as we could walking back home! I realize now, we not only saved on supplies but on gas that way!
Of course I loved seeing friends that I had missed over the summer. But I think my favorite memory comes with that perfectly shiny, vibrantly colorful, unused 64 pack of Crayola crayons. Oh, the possibilities…
My favorite memory was a school clothes shopping trip with my mom, grandma, and sister. My grandma would always drink coffee in the car,and that would always lead to the giggles. My sister and I would always tell my mom not to let Grandma have any more coffee! We always had so much fun 🙂
Also shared this on Twitter (@mistymathews), on Facebook and on my blog (https://mistybell.blogspot.com).
My favorite memory is laying out all my new school supplies and new clothes the night before school and making plans with what to wear which day and which folder was going to be used for which class! LOL I’m still a big planner! 🙂
We grew up in a very small town, and I remember getting to go to the city to shop for school supplies and clothes. We’d get to eat out at restaurants and stay at a hotel. It was always so fun!
My favorite back to school memory was shopping for school supplies and getting my new notebook organized and set up for school.
My favorite memory is the back to school party that my mom gave us when all five of my brother, sisters and I were in elementary school. We invited the entire school (apx. 50 kids) to our home for fun school themed games. Everyone had a fantastic time!
I always loved going back to school for the first time during the summer when we picked up schedules. I always liked this because my friends and I would plan what time to meet there. This would be the first time I would see some of my friends since school ended, so it would be exciting to see each other and how we changed. I remember the phone conversations with some of my best friends about what I was going to wear and how we hoped to share a locker. It was always the most fun though when we were moving to a new school. The new school always seemed so much more bigger than the last, but with my friends there I knew it would be fun.
I have so many favorite “back-to-school” memories: going to Sears and shopping for school clothes a week or two before school starts (loved Sears because they had the *coolest* phone booth in the junior department, LOL); new school supplies; and going to the school to find the big bulletin board out front listing who was in what class. With my own children, I love shopping for curriculum and buying new crayons. I love new crayons!!!!! 🙂
My favorite back to school memory was and still is- even though I am no longer in school- getting school supplies like pencils and folders. I love it so much I go buy stuff now. I love to look at the new folders and pencils. I have lots of them and find household uses for folders and whatnot.
My favorite back to school memory is going shopping with my mom
I blogged about this giveaway! Thanks for doing this!
My favorite memory is of going back to school in high school.I always loved finding out where my locker was and who was in this class or that one with me:)

My favorite back to school memory as a child was shopping for new supplies with my mom. It always felt like a special new school year when you could pick out a couple new things.

I loved getting new supplies. Somehow the sight and feel of a brand new box of crayons, colored pencils, and the like always thrilled me!
I always loved getting new crayons, and my mom would let us splurge and get a new box every year, even though we had a huge bucket at home. I loved how the new ones were always sharp and arranged by color.
My favorite memory is organizing all of my school supplies into my new backpack (the years when I got one!!). Now my new tradition with my kids will be having pancakes and sausage or something like that on the first day of school.
I loved shopping for clothes and school supplies (especially that all-important Trapper Keeper), and I still do, but I really enjoyed shoe shopping. I seem to remember getting three pairs: athletic shoes, dress shoes, and casual, everyday shoes. It’s been a long time since I bought that many shoes in one trip!
My favorite memory is the sharpening all my pencils and organizing everything. I also love the smell of new crayons!
My favorite memory is when my grandmother would come over and take each of us grand kids clothes shopping individually. We each had our own day. She would come early in the morning & pick us up. We would get some breakfast and then head to the mall. We would spend the day shopping with breaks for lunch and a mid-day snack….I delicous ice cream!! We would get back around dinner time and unload all the bags. Oh…what fun I had with my grandma. How I miss her terribly!!
Favorite Back to School memory…. shopping for new clothes! 🙂
One of my fav memories was getting my picture taken on the first day of school- holding a sign that said the date and grade I was going into and wearing my first day of school outfit! This is something I do with my kids each year now.

I always loved having brand new pencils and a brand new box of crayons and a notebook that was untouched and perfect
My favorite back to school memory was getting to pick out a new bookbag or lunchbox. That was always exciting. These days, I’m not shopping for students but for a teacher. My daughter teaches elementary school and I like to pick up extra supplies for her classroom and perhaps the kids who could not afford a new box of crayons or glue sticks. I’d love to win!
Ny favorite memory is putting on a crisp new outfit or uniform and having a backpack full of new school supplies!
My mom always took a picture of us on the 1st day of school…I carried on the tradition for her on my 1st day in college…all 4 years 🙂 We always knew that it was picture time – and it’s funny to see all of the 1st day outfits we chose!
Now if we could only find all of those pictures to put together in a collage for her!
Just posted on FACEBOOK: http://www.fbook.me/LouAnnT
My favorite memory of starting school, is picking out a new outfit to wear the first day.
Honestly, I hated school, but my favorite memory would be my senior year. We all got together and went out for breakfast the first day, then I threw a huge part that weekend.
tweet, thanks! https://twitter.com/idahojill/status/3109832019
Because my son has an especially difficult time w/transitions, it was so wonderful that this year he was eager to go back to school. It is his second year at preschool & his teacher follows him for the two years, which is wonderful because he LOVES his teacher.
My favorite back to school memory was probably the start of school last year. Watching all three of my sons go off to school was amazing, and also a bit sad!! My oldest was a senior, the middle one a freshman and the youngest started kindergarten. Now we are getting ready to send our oldest off to college, whcih will be a whole new venture 🙂
My favorite memory is my mom giving me money and a list of things she needed for my sister’s back to school shopping (she is ten years younget than I) and we would get to go out for lunch. I loved showing my mom what we got and the money we saved. My sister and I had a lot of fun doing it and it saved my mom from having to do it.
Myfavorite back to school memories have always been the new clothes. Everything was new!!!
When I was little, my mom used to go back to school shopping by herself, since she had 4 kids to get ready. She took the teachers’ lists and would get the items we needed, then make little piles for us on the dining room table. We would get so excited to see what she had gotten for us!

thanks!
my favorite back to school memory is that even when I was in college, the first day of school riding on the campus school bus, I still had that nervous feeling. I was very excited about school with my new school bag, notebooks and all the new accessories I had for the new term.
My favorite memory is getting my school supplies. We were allowed to pick out one ‘trendy’ item–everything else was basic, but picking that one thing would take forever!
I remember when my mom used to wake up early to make us a special breakfast on the first day of school as we would all anticipate the year to come.
all the new notebooks and papers my parents buy to stock up for the school year is more than I can use. Even up to now, we still have tons of unused papers stocked on the bookcase.
I shared this in my facebook.

My favorite memory is the smell of crayons and pencils and getting them all gathered in my new backpack for the first day.
I shared your giveaway on my blog xanga.com/mathsometimes
My favorite back to school memory was getting my picture taken on the front porch. We took pics of our children getting on the school bus the first day of school.
My favorite thing about going back to school was having all brand new school supplies! That, and seeing my friends again after a loong summer 🙂
Thanks for offering this contest. Hope we win.
I always liked picking out my first day of school outfit.

My favorite back to school memory is when my Mom would bring me clothes shopping. She would take me alone and we would spend the day together. We always stopped for lunch. Since I have two brothers it was nice to get her all to myself for a day.
I miss back to school shopping so much. Going to JCPenney’s and Mervyn’s for clothes and picking out the school folders with kitties and Lisa Frank designs. I can’t wait to have kids to do that with!
I love taking my kids back to school portraits myself every fall. The ones you can buy through the school are expensive and boring. We head out to the yard or to the park and they pose away!
My favorite back-to-school memory was shopping for all new clothes and being so excited to wear a new outfit on the first day of school.

My favorite back to school memory happened last year when my son started afternoon preschool – he was so excited, a little bit scared, and he began to walk into the school – turned back to look at me – then ran back to hug me, then went off into the school he went. From that first day on he always gave me 2 hugs when I dropped him off.
I loved going clothes shopping with my mom. As an adult I hate clothes shopping now, but I was recently able to go with my mom again, and she makes it more fun! Thanks for the giveaway, this would go a long way! 🙂
I don’t know if I can pick just one back to school memory. I always loved going back to school as a kid…getting new school supplies and backpacks and clothes. I do remember that every year my mom would make us pose for a picture with our backpacks on the front porch!
I loved shopping for school clothes with my mom and am having a great time doing that now with my daughter who will be starting Kindergarten!
On my first day of high school, i waited anxiously at the end of the drive way, trying to look “cool”. Just as my bus pulled up, my dad ran out of the house and cartwheeled around the entire bus!!! At the time, I was dying in embarrassment , but, now (almost twenty years later) I am so happy that my dad (who now has difficulty walking) taught me to always see the laughter in a situation, not to sweat the small stuff and that life is meant to be lived in joy and positivity! I will always value that memory and am thankful for the support my parents had in my education
My family has four girls and twice a year (once before school started and then again in the spring) we would go to McDougall’s shoe store for one pair of nice shoes for church/school and one pair of tennis shoes for school. We didn’t have alot of money during our primary schooling and unfortunately all of our feet were very narrow. So this special trip was so much fun and we would get to pick a golden egg that had a prize (normally a finger puppet monster) if we behaved. I can still see and smell it in my head!
I remember that the first day of 8th grade was my 13th birthday.
What a way to start the last year of grade school.
My favorite back to school memory was getting all the new supplies and backpack. It may sound kind of strange, but I loved the smell of the pencils and crayons and things. I would spend hours the day before school organizing all my supplies in my binder and backpack.
My favorite BTS memory was actually looking through JC Penny’s Catalog to see what I wanted for school. And the new backpacks and crayons. New crayons still smell really good to me. Weird, I know.
My favorite memory was my first day of school. I had a huge peony from my mother’s garden and I could not wait to give it to my teacher.

I always loved organizing my desk with all the new school supplies, and covering my books with clear contact paper so they would look new all year long.
My favorite memory was my Grandmom buying me my first day of school outfit!
My favorite memory is of my daugther, Stella. It was her first day of Kindergarten last fall. She looked so cute in the dress she picked out. She starts 1st grade in two weeks!! Eeekk!
Thanks for the entry!
my favorite memory is getting the “new” stuff. we didn’t always have a ton of money so new clothes wasn’t a given, but we could always count on new pencils and folders and markers. That was such a great time for me! 🙂
I remember my first grade teacher drew huge birthday cakes on the chalkboard in colored chalk(I know, I know, but it was big deal a half a century ago) with candles and flames for birthdays. I thought I was so special when I got to go to the board and erase the flames while everyone sang. Oh, the smallest moments do somehow remain the largest in our minds.
My favorite back to school memory is shopping for the new first day back outfit. 🙂 It was always fun to go out shopping with my mom
I just tweeted! @savingsense!
My favorite back to school memory is always the first day of school because I used to be all excited about the new class, new teachers ets. Also, there was no homework to do the previous night 🙂
My favorite back to school memory is from college…does that count?
Freshmen year I had two bad roommate experiences and I commuted from home my sophomore year. Moving back into the dorm (in a single room! with two windows! and two closets!) my junior year was incredibly exciting. There was a great group of girls in my dorm with the best RD you could imagine.
I always loved going back to school shopping. It was always a thrill to get new outfits.
My favorite back to school memory: I know pretty typical, but shopping for new clothes. It was a nice day with my mom and sister. She usually took the day off of work.
I love shopping for my sons’ back to school supplies.
My favorite back to school memory is the new box of crayons I got every fall! I can still remember the waxy smell, the pristine rows of colorful points, and thinking of all the fun I was going to have coloring with them.
I tweeted your awesome giveaway!
my favorite back to school memory was when my mom would take a picture of us on our way to the bus stop. I do that now with my kids. Usually we are wearing our best new clothes and a big smile. It’s fun to compare year after year how much we changed and the taste in our clothes.
I loved the feeling of going back to school with my brand new pencil box full of new stuff! I loved that the crayons were sharp and that my pencils weren’t lost yet. It was the best!
One of my favorite back to school memories is getting a brand new box of Crayola crayons, lifting the lid, and inhaling its unique wonderful fragrance!
My favorite school memory is actually getting in trouble for sticking my tongue out at my 6th grade teacher and then getting out of it by saying I was just licking my lips. I think my teacher really knew what I did but I was teachers favorite.
I always loved getting the school supply lists. And every year on our first day of school, we would dress nicer than we would on any other school day and my mom would take our pictures with me and my sister wearing our backpacks. It was always so exciting!
My favorite memories are my two children’s first day of kindergarten. They were excited to go and had no trouble leaving mom so that made it more fun. I always enjoyed my kids getting to pick their 1st day of school outfit – always thankful that they had something nice and we were blessed with having enough.
My favorite memory is picking out the best outfit to wear the first day of school.

I was a big arts and crafts type of kid when I was younger. My grandma always had me making things and building things to keep me out of trouble. So I loved when my mom would tell me that we had to go to the store. It was my time to bombard my mom with request of paper, pencils, and every other misc you can think of. I figured if I asked for 10 things then I would end up with at least 3.
I remember always looking forward to buying a new lunchbox and new bookbag for school.
Mine was always the new books – yes, I was a total geek 🙂 The crispness of the sheets, the smell of fresh print of notebooks, the new pens and pencils – all were ambrosia to me!
Thanks for this great giveaway,

My favorite memory of back to school was the excited anticipation I felt the night before. I spent so much time carefully creating that perfect first day outfit.
My favorite back to school memory was just showing up in the next classroom. My birthday was always just a few days before, and then a new grade, so I always felt so “grown up.” 🙂
My favorite memory is this year. I bought my great niece her school supplies. She was so excited she actually took each item out of the back and examined it. She loved her backpack and she has it packed and ready to go for her first grade year.
Thank You for all your hard work
My favorite memory was getting all the new clothes and figuring out what to wear on the first day… 🙂
One of my favorite back-to-school memories is back in the day when we were given all our school supplies each semester…pens, pencils, paper, glue, ruler.
My favorite memory was shopping at the TJ Maxx for a new school outfit. My 2 older sisters & I are close in age & were pretty much the same size so we would get an outfit but always raided each others closets.
Tweeted your message @YooperSnowflake!
I also tweeted about your giveaway https://twitter.com/malvar
I am having a great time shopping this year thanks to your website. I’m cleaning up for my five kids’ supplie
I would spend hours rearranging all of my supplies to make sure they were just perfect when I walked into school. I loved(and still do) the smell of new crayons ….
I’m actually sitting here right now watching my 7th grader inspect all of her new stuff. She’s anxious to write her name on it all and put it in her bag!

My favorite memory … it was our first year homeschooling and all the public school kids headed back to school, but mine got to sleep in late then spent the afternoon picking grapes at a friends house.

My mom always used to have a special treat waiting for us when we came home from our first day of school!

My favorite memories were the first days back to school after summer .. not caring that your mom had spent so much time and money on those new school-year outfits, and getting good and messy playing with friends at the bus stop despite it all. 🙂
My favorite memory is back to school shopping with my grandparents. This is a tradition they started with all their grandkids and I’ll never forget those annual lunches and shopping with them. My parents are doing this with my daughter and I look forward to continuing the tradition when I’m a grandparent!
My favorite back to school memory was going to my elementary school one week before school started to see the class lists. I loved that day!
I loved getting a new box of crayons with sharp, clean points. I always dumped them out and looked to see if there were any new colors. Why there was blue-green and green-blue crayons with different colors was a favorite childhood quandry.
I liked shopping for new clothes and supplies…although my mom always made me reuse last year’s if they were still good 🙂
Favorite memory – shopping for school supplies, new clothes and shoes. I also would get excited about who my teacher was going to be and find out what friends might be in my class.
My favorite memory of school was getting there on information day and seeing who was in my class and who my teacher was. Now I love going shopping with my girls to get all their school supplies. I love to watch them get so excited about getting new things for school.
Call me crazy – but I loved school, especially all of the brand new supplies. For my girls, we love having an individual “date” with them to purchase back to school supplies, go to a restaurant for lunch or dinner to talk with them about how they are feeling about the coming school year and to pray about the school year.
We always started by pulling out the box from last year. This was a box that had both new and used things in it. We would all take our lists and mark off everything we aready had then we would start a list of what we had to get for the first days and then what we would like to have. Then only mom would go out with the lists. I understand why she did that now that I have kids! We never bought the folders with pictures on them . But my Mom would always draw something on them for us or we would do our own!
I always loved back-to-school clothes shopping!
Oh how I love the smell of new office supplies! Hands down one of my favorite things about the back-to-school days. (Can’t call it fall here, it is still way to hot.)
Because my sister and I were both homeschooled I don’t exactly have average back to school memories. My favorite thing about going “back to school” was getting our (extremely expensive) curriculum in the mail or by UPS. (the brown truck is coming to OUR house?!) Sometimes I would get so excited looking through the books that I would start doing the work then and there. Now that I am entering my last year of college I can look back on all of my years of schooling and truly say that I had a wonderful and interesting schooling experience.
Living in a small town with a small elementary school (4 class rooms!) I remember my first day of school and how climbing the tall wooden steps to enter the old two storied frame building intimidated me. The big old white building looked scary and I felt like the smallest and most shy person there. When I looked up to see my cousin waiting for me at the top of those stairs it was like seeing an angel. I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for my older cousin who always looked after me at my first school.
New school clothes was definitely my favorite part. Now that I’m a Mom, I think that’s still my favorite part. An excuse to buy a few new outfits for my kiddos!
My favorite memory was getting all new school supplies – it made getting ready to go back to school so exciting!
My favorite back to school memory as a child was going back to school clothes shopping….and getting my 1st BRA!!!!! lol
I can’t wait for my kids to start to get into all the supplies and stuff.
i shared this on facebook.
I have a fettish for colored pens, so my favorite memory is MOST definitally picking out which trendy pack of fun colored pens I wanted…of course that inevitably I couldnt use because no teacher liked my lime green or fushia colored pens!! …I am posting a link now on my blog at http://www.laurentrain.blogspot.com!
My first thought was the year I got to pick a brand-spanking new Trapper-Keeper. I think it had kittens on it 🙂
Oh the fond memories, I have a Kindergartner of my own this year, I am so excited!
my favorite back to school memory was when we got to go shopping at kmart or walmart and my mom would put everything on layaway for us. it was so much fun to pick out clothes and school supplies and then recieve it all days before school started again. my favorite memory as a mom was seeing my little boy go off to kindergarten. i cried like a baby, but it was great to see him so grown up!
I posted a link on my Facebook page. Here is the link for that https://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=545043101&ref=profile Please, I need to win this so bad!!
My favorite back to school moment was my senior year. Almost the end!
I loved shopping for new clothes for school. I used to go with my mom, but in my later high school years, she gave me a budget and set me loose at the mall to find the best deals!
My birthday is August 13, so back to school was alway kinda a birthday memory, too. I guess one of my favorite memories was the fact that me and my mom would go shopping to supplies and clothes without any of my siblings. I would have birthday money to spend, which made it a little easier on my parents bc I would pay for some of my own clothes once I got to be a teenager and wanted name brand stuff. I have 2 brothers and 1 sister, I am the oldest, so getting to go shopping with my mom alone was something that didnt hppen often. I am now a single mother and appreciate everything my parents did through those years with 4 small kids so that we could have what we needed and some of what we wanted. =)
Oh, how I loved to have new school supplies, especially a box of new crayons. I always tried not to break them. I still love Crayola crayons today, many years later.
I tweeted about your contest :-).
I loved shopping for my school uniforms my first year of school in Africa. It was super exciting to have to buy a new bag (very different from the back packs I was used to) shoes, socks… It was too fun! Plus I LOVE school supplies! To this day, hubby knows he can make me smile by buying me some glue or crayons on sale.
I twittered about this giveaway as well!!!
I have homeschool my children for the last 9 years and my favorite back to school tradition is waiting for the first day of school to pass out their books and supplies as a surprise. They are usually excited to see what they will be doing for the year and getting all new supplies and goodies.
I always loved getting on the bus on the first day of school, waving goodbye to my parents and sitting down with all of my friends. After spending the summer as an only child in the county, getting back on the bus for the first time was like entering a different world!
My favorite memory is always the first day of school. You needed to choose your clothes very carefully. I was so excited to see the new clothes my friends had. I agonized for weeks over what new clothes to wear each day for the first week.
I was raised by a single mom who always seemed to make sure I had everything I needed at back-to-school time, for which I give her much credit. However, the most vivid memory I have was when I was 12 and saved my allowance and money earned for extra chores all summer to buy my own back-to-school supplies & clothes for my first year of junior high school (on my own initiative)…talk about a rite of passage. I will never forget that feeling of pride & accomplishment.
One of my favorite memories of back to school shopping would be with my children. We are so close to a bunch of office supply stores, so we go to several stores to score our penny or free school supplies. My kids love all of their new supplies, they always want to use them right away. Luckily we extra so they can dig right in and use them.
I would love getting my backpack. my parents were good bargin shopers but I remember going to the swapmeets for our backpacks. just watching them haggle was a blast. I rememeber they did this because my sister, brother, and I are only slightly more than year apart/ at that time was nearly inpossible to get brand name backpacks but just all walking together to get them was a moment i wouldn’t change for anything.
I tweeted!
I always loved getting dressed in my “first day of school” outfit and posing for pictures on my way out the door. I’ve carried that on a bit with my own kids, more for my own pleasure than theirs I think 🙂
My favorite memory is taking a picture of my kids in the morning when they left for school and then taking one of them when they got home. Boy what a difference, those first days of school took a lot out of them. Still have two kids left going to school and camera is ready, and supplies are beginning to be gathered. Thanks for the chance and the walk down memory lane.
My favorite memory was buying all my supplies getting them ready. Then going to school and seeing who was in my class. Also to see if they had any class pets(Guinea pig etc)..
My favorite time with my own children is taking pictures with their back packs and then looking at them as the years go by..
The BIG box of 64 crayons with the pencil sharpener on the back. We were not well off so this was a tremendous treat and was cherished.
I remember going school supply shopping with my mom. That was so exciting when I was little! I hope my kids think it’s that exciting…
My favorite back to school memory with my children is going to Kohls with their grandmother and I. We take 2 carts and we follow them around like little puppies. At the end of the shopping spreee (and it IS a spree for them lol), my mother and I start negotiating who is going to pay for what. We always end up laughing hysterically at each other, because we both want to be the one that buys the “favorite” item for the kids. My son is now in college and my daughter is 8 and the tradition still lives today. We have been doing this for over 12 years now.
I added your link to my twitter
One of my favorite back to school memories was seeing the class list to see if my friends were in the same class. I also enjoyed shopping for new outfits for school. I use to love “Wet Seal” where I could find matching hair accessories & “Miller’s Outpost”. Now as an adult I enjoy finding “cool” clothes (Quiksilver, etc) for my son but at bargain prices! =) Thanks for all of your postings!
One of my fav memeories was shopping for school supplies…I still love that now as the mom;-)
my favorite thing was always going for new shoes 🙂
I’d have to say that my personal favorite memory was finding out which teacher I had. In elementary school, we’d go early to the school early to check the list. I’d always be excited if I had a teacher my older sister had had before!!
my favorite memories were getting a new outfit from head to toe for the first day of school every year!
My favorite memory is my first day of kindergarten. My best friend and neighbor, Lisa, and I walked to the bus stop together. We had manilla tags with our names and other vital stats tied to the buttons on our dress, and our hair was in pigtails. I still remember my dress, too – it was a Heidi-inspired yellow dress with little flowers and a lace-up around the midriff.
Good stuff. My son has to wear a uniform, so no cool first-day-of-school outfit for him.
My favorite back to school memory is my first day of what would be equivalent to high school i guess this would be strange for you guys here but i grew up in st. lucia my dad was so proud of me getting into this great school which I needed a scholarship to attend that he walked all the way with me carrying my back pack. To this day i remeber this what a great dad.
My favorite Back to school Memory is of my Oldest Daughter’s first day of Kindergarten!
I walked that Precious little girl to school in her beautiful little blue dress and white frilly little ankle socks! She had on new brown Mary Jane shoes and a Big Bow in her hair! She was so adorable. We were on Austerity that year! NO Buses! I walked her into her Class and kissed her good-bye. She said “Bye Mommy” So big and Brave! And off she went! My Big Girl!
I went home and CRIED my eye out!
My little Girl is about to have her first Baby in October! My first Grandbaby! I’m gonna be a GRAMMA! Precious Memories!
DARN it! YA made me CRY AGAIN!!!
Thanks for a gReAt GiVeAwAY and the Memories too! Which is Better, I don’t know! smile~!

Oh the Crayola Crayons box of 64!!! It was a day of rejoicing when I actually convinced my mom that I needed that for school. I still remember the smell of the crayons and the look of all the perfect crayon tips when you would open the box for the first time. I may have to go and buy some even though my youngest is about to go off to college.
My favorite memory was shopping for school supplies. I can’t resist the smell of a brand new box of Crayola Crayons!
My favorite back to school moment is seeing my dad waiting till i enter the classroom to actually leave. This was my first day of Kindergarten and till now it brings tears ( good) to my eyes.
My favorite memory was stocking up on new erasers at Walgreens with my mom — I’d add all the fun shapes and different kinds (cars, food, etc.) to my collection.
My favorite back to school memory is actually as an adult. Last summer I had been hired for my first full time teaching position – contingent upon the school district receiving a grant from the state for the program. Well the grant ended up falling through but before I knew that I went CRAZY shopping for things for my new classroom. I spent over $100 at the Dollar Store!!! I grabbed all the great deals I could find and I LOVED every moment of it. It was definitely a bummer to find out all those great things weren’t going to be used… yet!
Thank you! I absolutely love your site and I have just started my own blog to help people save. Thank you for all you do.
I love new school supplies. There is just something about a new box of crayons.
I was homeschooled out at our church with several other kids. We couldn’t afford playground equipment so we had a basketball and a football. My favorite memories are the ones where I laid in the grass with my best friend and planned our whole life out in front of us……some of it came true….lol
My favorite back-to-school memory was being SOOOOOOO excited that I was a year and a grade older, LOL!!
My favorite back-to-school memory is going shopping for school supplies with my mom. There was something so exciting about having new pencils, notebooks, and folders!
My favorite part of going back to school is watching my daughter get on the bus in her cute back to school outfit.
My favorite back to school memory was getting to go pick out a new “trapper keeper” each new school year !!!!!
i guess my favorite memories are yet to come. my son is about to enter into kindergarten and my daughter will be in pre-k this year. i am nervous and excited for them. ( and me lol ) i hope they have a wonderful time in school. i know i always enjoyed it. thank you for the opportunity.
My favorite memory is the back to school picture. We would get dressed up in our new outfits and put on our backpacks, and my mom would snap a picture of us outside the house before we headed to school on our first day. I love looking back at all those pictures and laughing at the fashions of days gone by. 🙂
Oooohhh! When my dad backed into the bus as it was picking us up on the first day of school!
My favorite memory of school is going shopping for new clothes. I grew up on a farm and was the oldest of 4 children. My mom was a stay at home mom and my parents did not have much money. I could pick out whatever clothing I wanted but I was only able to spend $100.00. Of course, I did not think anything of this but adding up for 4 kids came to a lot of money. My mom has made so many sacrifices over the years (too many to count) as she always put her childrens’ needs before her own.
I loved going back to school to stop the babysitting! I was the oldest of 4…
My best back to school memories include all the new school supplies. There was something exciting about that pencil box, the sharpened pencils, the sharpener, and the plastic protractor (which I didn’t even know how to use until junior high or high school).
I loved all the shopping associated with the ‘back to school’ season. I loved school supply shopping (mostly picking out a new cool binder!), as well as getting new clothes and a new pair of shoes. Too fun! I’m excited to start doing this with my kids.
My favorite memory is the back-to-school shopping. My mother was always frugal, so I quickly learned how to shop the clearance rack and the thrift stores. I learned the ‘thrill’ of a great deal early on!
My favorite memory is getting new crayons and clothes!! How Fun!
🙂
My favorite back to school memories are of taking pictures of my children on their first day of school each year with their teacher.
My oldest son started preschool last year and when I took him shopping for school clothes he said “Do I need new clothes because I’m going to learn so much that my old clothes won’t fit anymore?” So funny!
My favorite back to school memory was all the school supplies. . it was like christmas for us. Rarely did we ever get “new” stuff so it was a real treat!!
Mine would have to be 6th grade. I got to pick out my own clothes for the first time, plaid capris of the florescent persuasion with a bright orange shirt to match.
One year I was so excited about the first day of school and nervous that I wouldn’t be ready on time, that the night before I got dressed in my new school clothes and then put pjs on over. I know, what a time saver. Sadly, the only pajamas that would fit over my clothes was a pair of sweatpants and sweatshirt. I slept horribly that hot, August, Arizona night!
My favorite back to school memories were from when I was a kid and we got to go and get our back to school stuff. We were quite broke when I was a kid, so we got one pair of shoes a year and we ALWAYS got them right at back to school. It was always so exciting to get those brand new white sneakers and trying to keep them as new looking as possible for as long as you could. Good times :-).
Coming from a family with 9 kids…back to school shopping wasn’t anything extravagant but we did go get to pick one outfit out to wear the first day of school and we would have a fashion show with each other and show off our outfits and make sure everything went together right. Such good memories!! The simple life…that is what it is all about!
My favorite back to school memory was shopping for school supplies with my mom. We used to go to 2 stores for my 3 sisters and I. Fay’s and Ames. I think I really looked forward to getting all the fresh new notebooks, pencils and crayons especially. Along with a brand new little pearl eraser. I think I really loved this as it meant a new year a fresh start, and everything on the slate was clean. Thanks for bringing back fond memories, and for such a great giveaway which will help me provide supplies for my daughter. Thanks Hallmark too:)
When I was a kid, we’d go shopping at Kmart. I remember those “bluelight specials,” clearance racks, Icees, & eating at the in-store cafe.
My favorite back to school memory (and even still now) is shopping for schools supplies.. There is something very exciting about a clean notebook, new pencils and folders… Seriously, I can’t get enough! I still love back to school shopping now! Plus now that I’m older and know the value of a deal… getting free and almost free school supplies is even better!
Just me again. Thought I’d better give my email address:

My favorite back-to-school memory actually involves my niece and nephews. Every year, on the first day of school, my sister would take a picture of them at the top of their driveway, waiting for the bus, in their new back-to-school clothes. She has them starting around 1992 when my niece first left for kindergarden all the way up til last year, when the boys went off to high school – Zach was a senior and Billy a sophomore. Now Beth is starting her 4th year of college and Zach his first, and Billy is a junior in high school, but she’ll still take their picture together on the first day back. It’s so much fun to look thru her scrapbook will all the pics lined up, year after year, to see how much the kids changed every year. It really makes you stop and think about how fast we travel through this life and just how important it is to enjoy the small things, like three kids going off to school again each fall.
My little girl is getting ready to start kindergarten and she’s so excited. I remember the teddy bear name tags on our desk the first day of kindergarten and being bummed out because I had to sit next to and across from boys. I hope the same doesn’t happen to my girl!
My favorite back to school memory is back to school shopping. I love to shop!!! My dad would empty out his change every night and leave it on the dresser. I would collect the change every morning, and that is what I would use to go shopping with. I would usually have collected quite a bit over the months.
My parents didn’t have a lot of money when I was growing up either, so it was just a treat to get new things. My mom used to take one of every color of the cheapest folders and hold them out. We thought it was so cool just to pick one of our favorite color. Now I think it’s funny that we thought that was so awesome when I look at how many designs and fancy supplies there are out…You can even pick any color of stapler!
I loved picking out new school clothes and deciding on the perfect outfit for the first day of school.
My favorite memory was the ‘getting ready’ part: of course the new outfits, the new sneakers and clogs, the new lock for your locker, the school supplies. Loved getting a new notebook – like a tabula rasa. A way to start fresh each year. And wondering who would be in my classes!
My favorite back to school memory was picking out my outfit for my first day of school. I remember in elementary school I wore saddle shoes with most of my outfits (late ’80s). Gosh I loved those shoes.
My favorite back to school memory was getting my teacher assignments in the mail and calling all of my friends to see who I got to be in class with for the year.
I am a major control freak. My favorite memories involve collecting all my class syllabi and transcribing assignment due dates, tests, etc. into my DayTimer. Weird, I know.

My favorite memory is shopping for school clothes that I couldn’t wear–all the sweaters, the tweed–very “fall” looks. Why couldn’t I wear them? Unfortunately, in Texas, we don’t actually have a fall season, so I couldn’t wear any of my clothes until the winter. Long sleeve shirts, sweaters, and coats would have to wait until late November or December!
Riding my bike up to the school a couple times a day – every day – waiting for the class lists to be posted. Taking a picture in front of my garage in my new outfit on the first day of school. What fun memories!
I remember my first year in college buying everything. My mom gave me $100 and let me buy my own stuff. Towels, health and beauty, bras, an outfit – whatever I could get for $100. Now I love to stock up on all the super deals – pencils for 10 cents, glue for 20 cents – buy the limit and donate the whole thing…it only comes up to a few dollars, but I hope I made someone’s life a little easier.
my favorite back to school memory was the semester in college after I met my future husband. We were commuters at a big city university and he had a motorcycle, so I rode to campus with him everyday! Now that I think back on that, my poor parents!!!
I enjoy your site daily :)… thanks for all you do.

I always thought it was so fun to go rushing out after the first day of school to get all the new supplies. My school did not release the supply list early like schools do now, so it was always packed at the local drugstore! Crazy but fun!
My favorite back to school memory was actually with my youngest who was so very excited to start Kindergarten. She was dancing in the morning singing the “I’m a big girl, I’m going to school song.” 🙂 She posed for every picture she could even asking me to take more. That was it, she was at school. 🙂 When it came time to go into class, she came back out saying “nope, that isn’t what I wanted. I came and now I am going home with you. “
This is corny but…..
I wanted a pair of Erf shoes so bad….
My mom was a single mom trying to make it and couldn’t really afford them.
But….somehow…I got those dumb shoes. I loved them so much I tried to sleep in them.
My mom wouldn’t let me wear them until school of course!
YES….this was back in the 80’s!
About a week before school started, my elementary school posted the list of teachers and the students in each class on the cafeteria doors. It was exciting to start a new year of school and to find out who your teacher would be and which friends were in your class.
School shopping with my mom – everything went on layaway for us – and when we got it – it was like the best day!!! Then we’d model for my dad, walking down our hallways in all of our outfits!! I’m still grateful for parents who sacrificed for us to have nice clothes for school!
My favorite memory is the back to school shopping!
My favorite part of going back to school was picking out new supplies and clothes.
My favorite part was the shopping! I can remember getting three new dresses for $12.00! That seems like such an incredible deal now! I also loved new school supplies. New crayons and new notebooks–my favorites!
My favorite back-to-school memory is my parents praying with my brothers and I before we left for our first day of school each year. It was a very special time.
I loved school so going shopping for school supplies was quite fun for me. I loved the days of picking out cute, horse-themed folders and a Trapper Keeper. I even bought one on clearance in the spring along with some Spider-Man ones for my sons ; )
My favorite part was buying a new pair of shoes with my mom before school started; we always went to the same locally-owned shoe store, and I always adored my new shoes!
Oh, I used to love going to back to school! I adored picking out new organizational methods for the year, getting a new binder with fresh new dividers, or labeling new notebooks that were color-coded by subject. I still get happy at the smell of pencils and the sight of school supplies in the store.
I loved taking my girls clothes shopping. They never liked my opinion, but I always got the final say on what they could for school.
My favorite memory is going back to school shopping with my Mom. She would take each of us out individually for the day. It was so special to be with my Mom without my other siblings!
I remember the excitement of my first day ever to go to school. No school day ever compared to that anticipation.
My favorite back to school memory is walking with my younger brother to school. He is four years younger than I am and I remember how little and scared he used to be. Now he is a big marine!
I guess my favorite back to school memory is probably taking pictures on the first day of school. with my sisters.
now my baby is headed to school and i’m so nervous! LOL he’s so excited so i think my favorite school memories will be changing verty soon. 🙂
Favorite school memory is getting back to class to be with my friends and to see how many classes we got together.

This is my son’s first back to school. We were shopping for some of the supplies on his list and he asked why we weren’t getting the pencils. I told him we would, just not today. He then said, “Why? Are they not on sale mommy?” HA! He was right though! He sure knows me!
My favorite back to school memory was getting new clothes and shoes- store bought clothes! My mom always made most all of our clothes but every year right before school we got to go buy 2 or 3 outfits each and a new pair of shoes
My favorite memory is back when I had my first day of Kindergarten. I remember what I wore and how I felt getting on the bus all by myself like a big girl. I didn’t go to preschool so this was my first real time being away from my parents.
i loved going back to school shopping with my Mom. We both loved buying new pencils and notbooks. We still do!!!!!
My favorite memory is the thrill I used to get opening up my new box of crayons and using them for the first time!
I enjoyed new school supplies and finding out what friends were in my class.
I love taking my kids pictures in front of the same tree in our yard every year. It is fun to see how they have grown~

My favorite back to school memory was going out with my mom and nana to find the perfect first day of school outfit! We would always spend the day in LA shopping and my sister and I would come home with a black hefty bag of new school clothes. Then on the first day of school my mom would stand my sister and I in the front yard and take our picture with us holding up the number grade we were in. So fun… thank you for taking me back!

I always loved shopping for back to school supplies as well! I loved getting new pens and pencils and being able to pick out pretty folders and notebooks.
I came from a poor family where my parent’s shared one car, so my dad was the only one that had the car to get to work and my mom stayed home. I walked to school everyday with my friends which was 6 blocks away. My clothes were always hand me downs from the older neighborhood friends on my block. What I remember most was my first day of 4th grade my dad took the morning off to drive me to school. It had been also raining that day and I was wearing a new outfit and I finally got the green trapper keeper I had been begging for. My dad pulled up to the front of the school and I jumped out and started running across the grass. The grass was soaked from the rain and my feet slipped from underneath me. I fell flat on my back. I instantly stood up and ran back to the truck for my dad to take me back home to change my clothes. Although this isn’t the best memory of my first day of school, it’s one that I will always remember.

Loved shopping for new clothes, especially the summer before starting jr. high after I’d lost about 10# and grew 2″ and had my teeth fixed! It was a blast seeing the look on everyone’s faces, barely recognizing me at first, then jaws dropping! 😀
One of my favorite memories was getting a new outfit to wear on the first day of school, and trying decide how to do my hair for that first day back.
Im 26 now, my fav. back to school memories always going to Kmart and Jamesway to pick out all of our school clothes, the annfrank trapperkeepers and school supplys. We always had to put things on layaway, and usually about 2 days before school started my mom was able to get the things off, its was so magical to bring home all that new stuff, I was always scared to put it on I never wanted it to get dirty, lol. Also going in the first day to see who my teacher was and who was in my class that year. I hope I win this wonderful gift card . Michelle in jersey
My personal favorite back to school memory was going shopping for new clothes with my Grandma and Sister. We would be able to pick a few outfits and a pair of shoes, without worrying about how much things cost. Growing up, my Mom didn’t have a lot, but when it came to back to school clothes shopping, my Grandma really helped out and we were comfortable with our new clothes.
Buying a new dress with my sisters–I remember that they were 3 for $10!
Since I attended school in UA, we had a first day of school ceremony every year, during which the first graders gave flowers to the seniors and the seniors gave them gifts. Everyone else got to watch this. I loved that tradition.
My favorite memery is when my son got on the bus to school in kindergarten–he loved to ride the bus..he was a big boy and always gets upset if he misses it–this year he will be in 2nd grade and is so much looking forward to getting on the bus again with his friends….
I always loved shopping for new back to school clothes and school supplies. It was fun meeting new and old school friends and discussing our summers 🙂 *Thanks* for the giveaway!

I never could sleep the night before school started! I would lie awake all night excited about the next day!
The new clothes. We had 4 kids in our family and times were tough with a one income family. The new clothes we got for the new school year were about the only clothes we go until chirstmas. It was a great time of the year for us. And to see what everyone else was wearing.
I loved getting a new pair of shoes and new clothes.

I always loved the clothes shopping, and getting that extra special attention from my mom…she worked a full time job, and on the weekends it was always chore time…
My favorite back to school memory is my Grandma baking homemade rolls for all her grandchildren on their first day of school each year. She only did this once a year, so it was such a treat! Thanks for the chance to win!
My fave BTS memories were me and my sisters always shopped all backpacks, lunchboxes and clothes together with Mom. And we fighted over whichever had princess photos on.
My favorite back to school memory is all the back to school clothes that we bought, and then I would spend hours trying to figure out what my first day of school outfit would be. I had to have a brand new outfit for the first day of school.
Thanks for the giveaway.
My favorite back to school memory was wearing my new clothes on the first day of school!
I cannot recall childhood memories of starting school and I am always in my own classroom when my kids start their first day of school (my husband shows me every detail with the pictures he takes) so I am going to go back to my high school days. Think 1982. I was going to be a freshman. The coolest clothes were mini skirts, head bands, leg warmers – I had this one outfit I wore on the first day…a black and purple striped shirt, black mini and sparkly purple headband. I stuck out. I was in advanced classes so most of my classmates were sophomores who then nicknamed me “Pat” after Pat Benatar. OK – this isn’t the best memory…but it began my high school years and I remember that day as if it was yesterday.
I loved the school supply shopping – especially for the bookbag/supply box/and luchbox.
I remember my grandmother taking me shopping for new school clothes in 7th grade. I had to have just the right outfit for the first day back and I remember it like it was yesterday: blue paisley blouse with a crochet vest over it and new blue jeans. I even wore that same outfit for my 7th grade school picture.

I LOVED back to school time when I was a kid! I remember going to get all of my supplies and being SO excited! I would still buy myself an entire set if it didn’t seem so silly! LOL! I loved (and still love) the smell of fresh crayons and paper! Mom and I would go shopping together to get some fun new fall clothes, too! It was something I always looked forward to!
One of my favorite back to school memories was walking to my first day of high school with what seemed like my whole eighth grade class. We were all nervous, but excited to finally be in high school.

I remember starting first grade with my bright yellow school bag with the big smiley face on it. It was the old-fashioned sack-type with the two long strings to use on your shoulders. I have a picture with 4 of my friends and we all have the same bag!
Mom would take me out each August for a Back to School shopping trip. I would get a new school outfit—which would always be too hot for the first day of school!! But I wore it anyway! Thanks for the giveaway.
My favorite back to school memory was going with my mom and sister and shopping for the upcoming school year supplies. Picking out my favorite lunch box and backpack, the cool purple/pink notebooks, and the fun pink and purple pens. When I got to high school then I also started picking out fun things to hang up in my locker. I would also clip pictures from magazines and fun sayings and tape them up in my locker. Ahhh… the good ol’ days. Can’t wait to do those things with daughter!
My favorite memory is also a tradition. Every year, on the first day of school, my husband and I take the day off so that we can take our son to school. We take pictures of him at home before we leave and then take more pictures of him and his classmates when the kids get out of school. It is so much fun to look back at the previous years’ photos and see how much they have changed.
Buying new school supplies. Nothing like a new pack of crayons!!!
I remember going school clothes shopping- we would always get what seemed like a whole new wardrobe right before schools started. It was so much fun to wear brand new outfits for a week or two.
My favorite back to school memory was going shopping for new clothes. My mom, sister and I would have so much fun shopping til we dropped!
Favorite Back to School memory: The end of the first day. I would get together with my friends and we would talk about which teachers we liked/disliked, what cute boys were in our classes and anything else that was MAJOR news 🙂
My favorite memory is having brand new school supplies–new crayons and pencils, still clean and sharp.
Like most Woman! My favorite BTS memory was the Clothes shopping and still is… 🙂
I’d have to say school clothes shopping and seeing my friends again. Even now my favorite thing is clothes shopping for my kids.
Aside from the shopping, every year it was always so exciting to me to go back to school & see all my friends. I remember everyone comparing their schedules on the 1st day of school to see who all was gonna get to be together in their classes.
My favorite school memory was taking off from work the first day of school every year to take my children (now 19, 21, 26) to school. Watching their anticipation, nervousness and knowing that my being there that day made all the difference in their school year.
My favorite back to school memory is the first day of school wearing a new outfit and having all of my brand new supplies ready to go!
I always loved going back to school! Elementary was my favorite! I always looked forward to a new box of crayons and a new pink eraser!
Do they still use those things!!?!?! 🙂
My favorite back to school memory was going to the school a few days before it started to look at the class lists. The anticipation of who you were getting was thrilling!
I don’t have the traditional going to the store to buy new supplies memories until I was much older and my older siblings were able to pay to spoil me with buying new things for the school year. My favorite early memory is the morning changing to a chill and knowing that school would still begin. The butterflies of wondering who would be in your class, how the subjects and teachers would be. My mom would make us a nice dress and we would take a picture (sometimes begrudgingly).
We did not have a lot of money growing up, so it was just shopping for back to school supplies and clothes
I posted on my blog https://www.budgetblessings.blogspot.com/
My favorite back to school memory is that we would alwasy go to the Pizza Hut buffet the day before school started!
My back to school memeory is gathering at our lockers the first day back in middle school and comparing our “cool clothes” However, polyester bell bottom pants are really not so cool in retrospect! Thanks
I remember how excited I was to get all of the new school supplies. There was nothing like the feel of a new box of crayons, new folders, notebooks, and the list goes on. I’d always have them stacked together in my room, and loved to always go through them again and again awaiting that exciting first day of school when I could start using them.
I tweeted about this awesome giveaway!
my favorite memory was the bus stop.. my brother and i were lucky because the bus stop was in front of our house..on rainy days we would sit out on the porch and invite all the other children to sit with us..
I shared this on Facebook! Thanks for the chance to enter this great giveaway, Mercedes and Hallmark!
I loved going shopping for new school clothes with my mother. I also did not realize then how much of a hardship this was for my family. Now that I have two boys of my own, I’m grateful for sites like this that allow me to find the best bargains.
When I was younger I always loved to get to to shopping to pick out the new clothes – most exciting was getting that one pair of Levis that were “cool” back then. Now I like to make sure I get a picture of my kids on the first day of school with their backpacks.
Spending hours picking out that PERFECT 1st day back outfit.
My favorite back to school memory would be my last year of nursing school! Knowing I would be an RN soon!
I always loved shopping for school clothes!
One of my favorite back to school memories is buying new crayons. I loved crayons and I loved opening a brand new box of shiny crayola crayons!
My favorite memory of school is actually before I was ever in school. My brother and sister are 8 and 9 years older than me and I can remember I hated when summer was over and they had to go back to school. In the afternoon I would go sit at the end of the sidewalk and wait for hours for them to get home . I don’t know that they ever realized how much I missed them when summer was over!
One thing that I always loved was not only getting new supplies, but packing everything into my new bookbag. Everything had a place, and I loved putting it all together.
Just the smell of new crayons. We did not have any money growing up, but somehow we always managed to get the essentials. I am sad that my husband is unemployed and I might as well be…I don’t get to make BTS a huge fun event for my kids, but we’re doing our best to make it exciting.
My favorite back to school memory is riding our bikes to the school to see what teacher we had been assigned for the new year.
The smell of all the new things…clothes, school supplies, fresh clean classrooms!!
My favorite memory is the shopping trips w/my mom and sisters – looking for school supplies and new outfits.
I remember getting a new trapper keeper EVERY year. Why mom let me pick out a new one each year, I’ll never know. (She was a bargain shopper for other things but let me pick out a new obscenely ugly trapper keeper, what a good mom!) We built up quite a stockpile of the hideous things. I remember the Lisa Frank ones, the totally 80’s spray painted graffiti looking ones, the flamingos one. So ugly!
Favorite Back to School Memory: Every year, going clothes shopping with my Grandma – those were always vivid memories.

My favorite memory with back to school was shopping with my mom. Every year we would travel an hour and a half to a bigger mall. Mom would save for months to buy me all the coolest stuff – well, within reason. The best was having her all to myself for an entire day! I will always remember special moment like those.
My favorite back to school memory is seeing who my new teacher was on the first day of school!
Becky
I would pack and repack my school box and backpack several times a day from the day we purchased supplies, until the first day of school. It was so much fun to play with the new sharp crayons and all the fancy school stuff!
My favorite memory was laying out all the new supplies and dividing them up between my sister, brother and myself. It was exciting to have all new stuff!
My favorite memory of going back to school is a new one. Every year I take pictures of my children in front of our house on the first day of school. We love to look at the picture of the year before prior to taking the new photo. My children get a real kick out of seeing how much they’ve changed in only a year. My husband and I love to recall all the good times from the previous year and then we all as a family look discuss all our goals and dreams for the new school year.
Going back to school was always an exciting moment! I will wake up really early every first day of school. Shopping for supplies was always fun and now that I am a mommy, I try to make it fun for my girls, too!
I shared on Twitter! 🙂
My favorite back to school memory was always picking out the perfect outfit for the first day of school! It had to be absolutely perfect!

My favorite memory is going to shop for school supplies and getting everything my kids need and pay very little for it, thanks to coupons and great advise from all these great blogs!
I remember getting to ride the “Smurf Bus” my first day of school.
I, too, love back to school time and back to school shopping. For years before we had kids I heled run a program at my office to supply backpacks and school supplies for kids at an elementary school that my office partnered with. That way we could make sure that the neediest of the kids could have what they needed to start the year.
My favorite memory from childhood was the year that my mom went overboard buying notebook paper. It was marked down to something like $.08/pack and she bought so much that we had it stashed all over the house and didn’t need to buy any for a couple of years. It was quite a good stockpile!
I loved to shop for school clothes because my mom and I would go to Denver and get a hotel room and spend the whole weekend at it. This is a tradition I try to pass on on a smaller scale to my girls. Hope they enjoy the memory as much as I do. Thanks for the great giveaway.
I loved going shopping for back to school. The memories we had of the fun of trying on clothes to buying the paper and pencils needed always brings back a smile to my face. My mom would make this time of year special for each of us.
My favorite memory is celebrating my birthday, which was either on or around the first day of school.
The smell of new pencils always takes me back!
My favorite back to school memory was going shopping with my Mom and picking out the supplies I needed, I always wanted the cute character folders etc. but somehow my Mom would always convince my to get the cheap ones. Know I know why!LOL Recently my cousins had to move in with their older brother who has custody of them and will be switching schools for the third time in 4 years. I would really like to take them shopping for school supplies to try and start their year out on the right foot and make sure they will feel confident beginning a new school year. I know it can be frightning when you don’t know anyone!
My favorite memory is when my oldest daughter who just graduated in May started school. It was the same elementary school that i went too! It brought back so many childhood memories when i took her to school on the first day! Very neat that both of my kids have gone to the same schools i went to!

I always remember giggling with my girlfriends and comparing what classes we had together and who we might be lucky enough to have in our classes that year!!! 🙂 Ahhh…..to be young and carefree!

My favorite back to school memories was school clothes shopping, of course.
My favorite memory is taking my son and daughter shopping for school clothes. We would make a day of it, hitting alot of stores, eating lunch, and bringing take-out home for dinner. At the end of the day, we were tired, but everyone was happy and we all had a great time.
My favorite memory was always being able to get a special outfit for the first day every year.
My favorite memory is the feeling of nervousness and excitement each year, which always changed to only excitement once I actually got into that first day back at school.
Growing up, my family stuck to simple school supplies that didn’t cost a lot of money: solid colored folders, plain wooden pencils, plain pens, etc. However, my mom always allowed us to pick one FUN item each year. My favorite back-to-school memory occured each year, when I was able to pick out pencils with designs on them, folders with pictures, a special designer book cover, or scented pens. Learning is fun when you enjoy using your school supplies!
my fave back to school memory was that of anxiously waiting through 1st and 2nd grades to be able to go to 3rd grade adn still have the 3rd grade teacher who owned an equestrian center to still be teaching. I will never forget the year I entered 3rd grade and arrived at school to find she was still teaching 3rd grade! What an awesome year that was. She allowed the whole class to come for special riding events, bbqs, lessons, throughout the year. It was a year to always remember!
My favorite school memory is getting school supplies. I love the smell of scotch tape and crayons! 🙂
MY FAVORITE MEMORY IS SENDING MY SON TO PRE-K ON THE FIRST DAY-HE LOOKED SO SMALL, BUT I THINK I WAS MORE SCARED THAN HE WAS. WHEN HE TURNED AROUND AND SMILED AND WAVED AT ME, I KNEW HE WOULD BE FINE-HE WAS GROWING UP!!
I always loved the back to school shopping I did with my Mom for all the new clothes. I am enjoying scoring some great deals for my own children now!
I was a very sensitive child, and the 1st day of school was always a bit of a trial for me. I started kindergarten at one school, we moved 2 weeks later and I had to start all over at a new school. I was painfully shy and didn’t much enjoy the first day at my new school. When I got home, my grandmother was there for a visit. She’d brought me a surprise gift, and I was overjoyed when I opened it and found a Skipper doll with a motorized bicycle. It was the COOLEST toy. I brought it to school the next day, and many of the other girls came over during recess to play it and talk to me. The toy didn’t last long, but it helped me to make some friends I kept throughout grade school, and it eased the transition for me.
I posted on my blog, but it’s not accepting my comment so I’m trying without the link. my blog is budgetblessings dot blogspot dot com
My favorite back to school memory is when I was in Kindergarten. My mom dropped me off and went to the little grocery store across the street from the school. I saw her go there and ran over real quick and jumped into the back of our little VW bug car and hid. I stayed there all the way home. When we arrived home and my mom saw me–she screamed–she was so freaked out! I cried and cried, but my mom took me back to school anyhow 🙁
I also posted on my blog and Facebook!https://marysfarm.blogspot.com/
I now live in the south so my favorite memory is SNOW DAYS, my poor children dont get those….
I used to love my brand new uniform.. each grade was a different color so getting the new color jumper was also fun.. because it meant seniority ..it was pink, blue, burgundy jumper… for secondary school… in mexico
My favorite memory for me was my h.s drama class. and for my kids its the time I have got to spend home schooling them. I was diagnosed a few years ago with MS and just this yr am having to send them to a charter school. They are as sad as I am so I have been letting them pick all their stuff themselves while still trying to find the best deal 🙂
Thanks for offering such a great givaway.
I remember coming home with my school supplies. It was so exciting and they smelled so good. My sisters and I used to comment about the school supply smell and how exciting it was to smell it.
I posted on twitter. Thanks. https://twitter.com/mommyangel96/statuses/3132391466
I was so excited to start 7th grade & I packed my backpack with all my school supplies including about 6 binders for all my classes for the 1st day. I was walking into the school, and then pop! My backpack strap broke! I sure never forgot the set back, but look back on that day fondly.
I remember every day on the first day of school, my mom would take our picture and “scrap” it in our scrapbooks. When I got married, I had one semester left of college and on the first day of school, my husband offered to take my picture with my backpack on against the door, just like mom used to do!
Favorite memory is funny now but to a 6 year old it was devastating, a little boy who shall remain nameless use to EAT the tips off of all of my crayons, my Mom bought me 3 boxes in one week because he kept eating all of the tips off!
My favorite back to school memory is getting a new lunch kit and new dresses that my mother sewed for me.
My favorite back to school memory was my Aunt Roseann taking my clothes shopping. I felt “all grown up” being alone with my Aunt and her picking out brand new fancy clothes for me. It was great!
My favorite memory of school was the first day, when I had new supplies, and all new clothes. Then we girls all got together to admire our new outfits and share the crayons and what not in elementary school. Elementary school was the best!
My favorite memory of school was getting to see all of my friends again. We lived in the country and my friends lived in town, so it was always exciting to go back to school!
My darling daughter’s excitement for school this year can be felt 100 miles away! This has to be the best year yet! I will treasure this memory always.
My favorite memory cracks me up. I was so excited the day before school started that I laid out the outfit I had picked and then fell asleep on my bed. When I woke up the clock said 6:30 and it was a little dark outside and I thought it was morning. I got all dressed, backpack and all, and ran out of my room. My mom laughed at me because I had just taken a nap and it was 6:30 at night the same day!
My favorite memory, like so many others, is getting all my new school supplies. We didn’t have much money and never got so many new things at once- except for at Back-to-School time! I now enjoy getting all my children’s supplies!
This is quite a gift to win when back to school shopping is in full swing. My memories of going back the first day was the most exciting for the beginning of a new year. Mostly seeing my school friends and talking of what we did for the summer were two topics that were high on the list. For the first month we did not have to wear uniforms which was great. Also getting all new supplies added to excitement even tho our school books were passed down from year to year.
I loved buying school supplies and picking out what to wear the first day of school!
My favorite back to school memory is picking out my outfit for the first day of school. I would spend hours picking the best outfit from all my back to school clothing items. Then I would lay it out at the food of my bed next to my backpack full of my new supplies. I would always wake up very early the next morning to get dressed and ready.
Since I was homeschooled, my “Back-to-school” memories are a little different than average! We divided my “Summer break” time up into week-long sections spread out throughout the year, so that I didn’t have the long lag in summer where you take a few months off and start to forget what you’ve been learning all year. So for me, going back to school wasn’t as big of a deal since my homeschool schedule was structured differently.
I loved reading your story about your mom! My mom was very frugal and a big coupon user (I wish she was still around to see all these coupon sites!), so she would stock up all through the year on pens, paper, etc. Thank you for the awesome giveaway, Mercedes!
I just love a new box of crayons!
My favorite back to school memory is shopping with my friends during the middle school years. We would load up in one of the mom’s vans and head to the mall, where we would scour the clearance racks (even then!) and all buy matching outfits. It was the cool thing to do.
I remember going to the local drugstore and getting my new Blue Horse writing tablets, along with the fountain pens we all had to have. The drugstore also gave away paper bookcovers with their logo on it…you knew it was back to school time when you saw those bookcovers by the door of the drugstore!
My favorite back to school memory is getting a letter in the mail every year with my teacher’s name. All of my friends would start calling each other to see if we were in the same class and we would start making plans for the school year.
My thought on back to school is exactly as you described…very expensive. I have also chosen to send my girls to private school…so school supplies AND tuition can be very trying on a limited budget.
Love your site!

Thank You
I cannot even remember the year, but my parents have a picture of my older brother and I on the first day of school, me in my Raggedy Ann apron dress and him in some 70’s garb, standing in front of a bush in our front yard. It had to have been K or 1st, those were the only years that we went to the same school.
I loved school supply shopping. My dad would takes us every year, and then everyday me and my sister would organize and reorganize all of the supplies
My favorite thing of each year was going to get my new backpack. I always loved to look at all the pockets and see which one was best. I guess even back then I was an organization freak! 🙂
I look forward to school shopping with my kids. I try to take each one separately, make a day of it, it’s fun helping them find what they need/want. We usually do lunch or dinner, sometimes even a movie! It’s great one on one time which is hard to get having 5 kids.
Thanks for offering this contest, how fun to read other’s posts.
My back to school memory is always the day before back to school, when I would sit down with all my sisters and sort out the school supplies and pick my favorite folders and notebooks. It was a great bonding time as well, since we usually fought over the colors of the folders and notebooks. 🙂
Don’t forget book covers! Last summer I started making updated versions of the paperbag book covers we used to make as kids. http://www.bookcityjackets.com.
Let me know what you think!
~Jeremy
We rarely got new clothes for school, so I still remember the year I got brand new purple shorts with a matching teal/purple shirt from Maurices. I’m sure it went perfectly with my big hair!
Growing up in South Africa – back to school was in January and shopping for school uniforms wasn’t too much fun!!
My favorite back to school memory is coming home with the pile of writing books, wrapping and decorating each one neatly with brown craft paper and carefully writing my name and subject on each one and then covering it in a special plastic wrapping. It became a contest with my sisters who can decorate their books the most creative. Almost always with my mom’s big stash of colorful magazine pictures all organized by subject…… Gotta love a thrifty mom!
What a great contest – It is so great to build back to school memories with my kids!
My favorite back to school memory is my first year at college and buying all the stuff that involves getting ready for dorms.

I couldn’t pick out my clothes but could help pick my school supplies
I just went back to school this summer at 37, and it’s more fun than I remembered. My favorite childhood school memory is when my grandma would take me shopping for school clothes as my birthday present. It was a treat to go shopping one on one with her.
I always loved getting new notebooks & pads of paper, all the clean untouched pages ready to be filled up with new writing & drawings.
i always loved the very beginning, when we went shopping for clothes. new clothes are always nice:)
I liked shopping for all my new supplies and clothes. 😉
On the first day of school I always had to take a picture of the kids before getting on the bus. The bus was never on time for the first day, but as I’m taking the picture, we all hear the bus coming, and so the picture shows the kids looking at the door, ready to run!! Another year…..
I remember going clothes shopping. I actually still have a pair of shorts I must have gotten around age 11 or 12 at Kmart and can still wear them.
My son went to 1/2 day preschool before entering K, which was full day. When I picked him up in carpool line at the end of the day, he got in with a glazed over look on his eyes and said “Mom, how long was that day, I thought it would never end.”
One of my favorite parts of back to school was getting new clothes. One year, my mom bought a bunch of pants and shirts from JC Pennys for me and my cousin who was a year older. When the stuff came in the mail, I tried on my clothes which were a perfect fit and my cousin tried on hers. To my benefit, the clothes my cousin got didn’t fit, they were a bit too small. So, lucky me, I got double the outfits that year.

I have so much more fun shopping with my own two girls than I did as a child. Supplies were so boring 30 years ago! Now they have such fun supplies out in such fun colors!
Thanks for this wonderful giveaway and thanks to Hallmark, too! This year has been tough on us so a gift card would help out so much! The best memories I have growing up is taking a first day of school picture with my brother outside by our house with our new clothes, supplies and backpacks! A fresh new start to a new year! This year, my 5 year old start Kindergarten! A scary and exciting time for him and mom and dad. Yikes!
I lived in the dorm during college. My favorite back to school memories are meeting the incoming freshmen and making life long friends.
My favorite back to school childhood memory would be rushing early in the mornings to wal-mart with my grandmother and my sister. We’d grab the school list at the store and start going down aisles before the rush. She was always the one we went with to get school supplies. My dad usually had work. Single parent family. My grandmother would constantly be looking for sales. Plus, she was a pack rat so we would find some useful things at her house. She’s at a nursing home now with my grandfather so I do really miss that.
Awesome giveaway! My favorite back to school memories was shopping for new school clothes with my Mom and laying all the clothes out for preview!
My favorite back to school memory is currently happening with my 5 1/2 year old twins right now. They will be starting Kindergarten on Sept. 8. So we are having a new adventure everyday for the summer. I want this summer to be one that they will always remember. It is already one that I will always remember. We do something everyday as simple as going to the library to read and take out books to read at home, going to free events at our local forest preserve, visiting the spray park, going to many different museums or going to a special event at the zoo. I am taking lots of photos and will be putting together a summer scrapbook filled with our memories. We also spend time practicing for school and playing school at home. I am so proud of my children, they are excited to learn and go to school and I know this will be just the beginning to may exciting back to school memories. Than on the day they start kindergarten we can remember all the fun we had and all of the memories to come 🙂
Trapper Keepers…remember those? I had one with hot air balloons on it and that was my school folder for pretty much all of elementary school…in fact I still have it!
My favorite memory of going back to school was buying all my new school supplies. Once we got our books I loved putting on brwon paper bags for book covers. Loved all the newness of a brand new year…… all the possibilities
I always loved picking out a new backpack and lunchbox with my mom!
I shared on twitter.
https://twitter.com/rebeldwell/status/3149922951
I loved starting off the new school year with new school supplies and catching up with friends…but my one of my fondest and funniest memories has to do with cheese curls 🙂 In 1st grade, my mom bought a HUGH container of cheese curls and divided them up in to baggies for my lunch. I think there was enough to last for a good 3 months! Anyway, I always wiped my cheese curl mouth on my long sleeved white shirt of my uniform. by the end of the year, my mom had to buy all new shirts for january because the sleeves were so orange and wouldn’t come out in the wash anymore! LOL
I blogged about this giveaway as part of my weekly post on free fun and other giveaways:

My favorite back-to-school memory one year was shopping for back to school clothes with my mom and sister. I found these great (think 70’s) brown suede shoes with neat symbols on the sides. My mom let me get them instead of the usual black & white oxfords.
My favorite memory of back to school was shopping for new clothes and school supplies.
Thanks

going back to see my friends!!
My fondest memories were going shopping for new back to school clothes with my mom and checking out the class lists to see who was in my class.
I just returned to school this year after being out for 38 years to get my GED. So I would say my best memory is graduating finally in 2009.
Mine would be returning to school after 37 years and getting my GED.
My favorite back to school memory was going shopping with my mom for all of the things on the school supply list. There’s something about a brand new box of crayons that is so exciting!
My favorite memory is taking first day of school pictures every year in front of the tree in our front yard. Ahh. Those were the days.
I loved getting the lists of what we needed and then matching and finding each item in the store.
When I was a kid, I would love to pour over the JC Penny catalog in anticipation of school shopping. I was always so impressed with the fall plaids. Plaid was, to me, the ideal first-day-of-school look. I just loved the anticipation of that first day, waking up early, the smell of fall.
I loved going back to school. It meant a time to go out with my mom and grandma. we always got new shows and new clothes from top to bottom. You are so right about the financial burden it placed on my parents. They had 3 girls. I appreciate it so much now. kelly D
One of my favorite times was having all-new stuff to wear to school.
My favorite part of the new school year was definitely the new school supplies. I loved how everything was fresh and brand new and I was able to put my name on everything!
The bright red dress I had for my first day of First Grade.
I think getting my boxes of Abeka School books and setting up my desk was always my very favorite thing– besides the first day of school, which was the absolute best thing ever. 🙂
Tweet: https://bit.ly/wgaLD
I think it is that first day of school picture tradition. You know in the new outfit with the new backpack.
I always loved back to school shopping, but my best memory is coming home from the first day of school and talking Mom’s ear off for the next hour or so – telling her all the details of my day.
My favorite back to school memory was actually my first day in college– my mom was making my bed and as she tries to step off the bunk bed her pants rip. We laughed and cried and took pictures. Good memories.
My favorite memories of school was my daughter coming home all excited about who was in her class and all the new friends she had made.
My favorite school memory is my first day of college classes because I had great professors and learned a lot.
The favorite was finding out who your teacher was and who was in your class.
My favorite memory was all of my new school supplies, clothes and book bags. Since I went to a catholic school the 1st and Last days of school we were allowed to wear our own clothes instead of the uniforms. Good memories which come to mind around this time of year.
my favorite part as a child was school shopping..my favorite part as a parent is seeing my kids become braver as the years go by on meeting new friends and teachers.
just tweeted it..

My favorite memory was all of my new school supplies, clothes and book bags. i was always excited for school, but only because of my new clothes & suply. it was never the actual getting up early or seeing the teachers. it was always all about showing off my new stuff..Now my child is going through the same thing..
My favorite back to school memory was getting those lisa frank folders. Those were so pretty especially in my new trapper keeper.
My favorite back to school memory was starting up again! I liked the routine and sense of accomplishment it gave me. 🙂
Thanks for this opportunity!
When I was just entering Junior high my mom bought me a dress thst cost over $10. That was the most expensive outfit I had ever had up until that time. I knew Mom was making a sacrafice to buy that dress and I really couldn’t wait to wear it to school.
The best memory I had of school is the first day. I always loved going to school woth new things like my backpack and supplies, i just liked everything new! And then of course the last day cuz you get to bring it all home.
My favorite back to school memory is just all the excitement. I loved school and it was always so much fun to collect all my new supplies and then go to school and get everything organized. And I always like learning to know my new classmates for the year too.
My favorite back-to-school memory was when I started my first day at a new school in second grade. My mom had bought me an outfit that was pink cotton pants and a pink pull over with skiing ducks on it. She bought it a size too big so I’d grow into it. I looked ridiculous decked head to toe in my too big, totally pink outfit. And the skiing ducks were just icing on the cake.
The girl I sat next to on my first day is still a good friend of mine. We often laugh about that outfit. The fact that we both remember it after all these years further proves how ridiculous I looked.
I remember the night before Kindergarden waking up in the middle of the night, getting fully dressed and waking up my parents to take me to school. I even remember the outfit — it was a maroon courdoroy dress!
My favorite memory? The smells of chalk and glue… 🙂
I always loved the “feel” of a brand new composition book and new, freshly sharpened pencils….The thought of a new year and new, exciting opportunities..
My Mom sewed most of our clothes when I was growing up but things like socks and underwear were orded from the Sears Catalogue. We would get to pick out what we wanted and then my Dad would place the order. The smell of Crayola crayons always meant a new scholl year to me and I still sniff new ones at the store.
My favorite memory was going shoe shopping with my mom. We went to a private school, so we had to buy new saddle shoes every year…the only place they had them were at this small shoe store. Next to that store was an old fashioned candy shop where we would stop on the way out. We were each allowed to get 1 candy stick…cinnamon was my favorite.
I remember trying on my new school uniform, a blue wool plaid skirt and white shirt, and actually thinking it was cool!
I loved picking out new pens and pencils each year. That aisle in the store, with the different options and colors, was another version of a candy store to me. Maybe that’s why I was destined to be an English major in college.
My favorite memory was to go school supply shopping and then taking all of those goodies to school. My daughter is exactly the same way too.
I always loved going out school shopping with my mom. She is who taught me early on to always check the clearance racks first. I also loved getting my school supplies and organizing everything just perfectly the day before school started.
My favorite memory was picking out new school supplies! Thanks!
My favorite school memory was picking out my new outfit for the first day of school!
I also remember goinmg shopping w/ my mom for school supplies and a few new outfits. We were definately on a budget since there were 9 kids to get ready for school!! I honestly don’t know how my mom did it! I was always excited to start school. I loved the smell of the new school supplies and the feel of a new outfit! I hope my kids will enjoy it as much as I did!
I loved shopping for new clothes! It was so fun to see what my new outfits would be like and then compare with my friends at school on the first day of class.
It’s hard to choose a favorite because I don’t have many fond memories of school. But when my son entered Kindergarten, I remember thinking “he’s too little for this, maybe we can take him out and try again next year.” Of course, we didn’t – but it reminded me how little time we have with our children when they are young.
my favorite memory: buying new school supplies and just spending a whole day of mother and daughter time the weekend before school started.
My favorite back to school memory was the shopping! I loved getting new clothes, new pencils, new folders. It was so much fun!
I have to admit to being a geek and always LOVING heading back to school! I loved finding out which teachers I had & what classes I was taking. I loved seeing friends that I hadn’t seen during the summer. I loved wearing new outfits. And I loved the weather turning chillier (I went to school in New England)!
I remember being intimidtaed by the nuns and then later loving them!
My favorite back to school memory was when my Mom would get me new things for school. Like going on the first day and having something special to wear. She always had me looking(and feeling) my best despite the fact that I was so painfully shy. She has been gone nearly 33 years but she was one terrific Mom 🙂
I always loved getting new school supplies – pencils, rulers, etc. It was so fun!
Thanks for the great giveaway!
It was always fun figuring out what to wear on the first day. It always felt like a new start.
We didn’t have much money so back to school was the greatest time of the year. We got new clothes and new notebooks. Even pencils were a big deal. It makes me sad that this is the first year my kids won’t need them. They are out of school now but it will always bring back fond memories.
My favorite memory is when I started kindergarten, I still remember the felt clown name tag that they gave us when we came in! Funny the things you remember. Thanks for the contest!
My favorite was shopping for school supplies! I love buying new pens and notebooks.
As a teen my aunt would take me back to school shopping to pick out a few outfits for school and then she took me to K and W restaurant. I treasured my new clothing because we didn’t have a whole lot and relied on the church pantry for basics so there wasn’t extra for frivolities like new clothing. The sad thing is that I don’t think I expressed well how much it meant. Hopefully the Cosmos has shared it with her though.
My favorite back to school memory is when we moved back to the state and area that I grew up in and got to be with all of my old friends. It was like I had never left and we were all still friends after all those years.

My favorite memory of going back to school was going up to the school to check the class lists posted in the windows! Checking who your teacher was and more importantly what friends were in your class!
My favorite was taking pictures each year the first day of school and then going back and seeing how the kids changed.
My favorite back to school memory is waiting for the bus on the first day of school when it was warm and light out compared to most of the year.
My favorite memory will be this fall when my twins go to preschool. This will be their first time ever in care outside the home. We’ve scrimped and saved to keep them home and live off of one income because that was important to us. With lots of sacrifice we have fortunately been able to do that. We’re very excited to send our girls to school and shop for their first ever school supplies and some extras to donate to the school!
My most amazing memory is when I recently took my godson to 1st grade and as we were walking to the door he asked if I would come spend the day with him in class. I told him I couldn’t but that I would be there to pick him up the second class was over. he kept insisting that I go inside. Finally I asked him why he wanted me to go so bad and he told me that he heard me talking about a trip to a special place but that I couldn’t go……he said “we went to the jungle in class yesterday and have fun all day”. I remember having an imagination like that!
My favorite back to school memory is going with my mom and grandmother to buy new school shoes. My grandmother usually bought my sister and I each a pair of new Keds. They looked perfect…pure white, not a speck of dirt on them..and they felt amazing. My mom would buy our dressier shoes like penny loafers or Mary Janes. I couldn’t wait for the first day of school so I could put those new shoes on!!
The farthest back that I can remember is getting all dressed up for first grade with my new clothes and shoes. I remember being so nervous because I could not see any of my friendls in class. finally ONE friend walked in and we have been friends ever since and I am now 32!
OH, I love back to school time! My most favorite memory was heading into 5th grade, and getting to decorate my very first locker. I had cool shelves and magnet things to hang up. I was so excited!
A very close second was my daughter’s first day of preschool. She looked me right in the eye and said, “It’s okay mom, I’m ready”.
😉 amy
My favorite memory is of going shopping for new school clothes and shoes. We always had school clothes and play clothes (changed as soon as we got home from school – what happened to doing that) so I was always really excited to wear one of my new outfits on the 1st day.
My fav memory was last year when near the end of Kindergarten my daughter said, “Ya know mom, I am not afraid anymore. I am used to Kindergarten now.” It was a sad, but proud moment for this mommy. We had made it and she was growing up in front of my eyes way too fast!
I still love the smell and feel of new crayons and pencils. I love to shop for new school supplies and can’t resist buying them. Good thing I can donate to good causes with them!
My favorite thing about going back to school was finding out who my teachers were. I also loved seeing all some of my friends that were away for the summer.
My favorite back to school memory is when my mom and i would go shopping for a brand new lunch box and pretty new dresses to wear back to school. Back then we couldn’t wear jeans and shorts like they do now. And all the new supplies like new crayons and new pencils. Thanks for letting me share and
missing my mom
Sherry
My favorite memory of back to school is when I would visit family out of town for the summer and when I would go back home, my mom would have all my school clothes, shoes and supplies set up cute all around my room. I would be so excited to see what she got me and try everything on for a fashion show for my family.
My favorite back to school memory…. I remember going to 9th grade and getting so exciting as I was moving up into the big kid high school years!!! I got some new clothes at Sears in the Jr.s dept, and although I’ve always been a sale shopper, I had my first job and splurged on these awesome jeans from the gap that had like 5 inches of beading around the bottom ($80 is definitely the most I’ve ever spent on one pair of pants!). So much fun–I also loved school!!!
My daughter was so excited to be starting first grade, she couldn’t wait to get a ” real lunch box” to take to school. Of course she could not decide so we bought two!!
Tinap
My favorite memory will always and forever be the NEW SHOES! 🙂
New lunchboxes!
Shopping for new clothes with my birthday money since my birthday is in August.
My favorite memory is shopping for new clothes and shoes with my Mom.
My favorite back to school memory is the smell of the school supplies aisle and watching for the specials so we could get everything cheap! I have to still resist buying tons of stuff, just because it smells good and is cheap!! I don’t need that much for supplies anymore, as we homeschool!!
i love the smell of new jeans! my daughter cannot wear jeans to her high school–silly dress code—the smell of new khakis has become my replacement best memory!!
I remember how proud I was that I could get my locker open on the first try when everyone else was struggling with theirs. Thanks for the giveaway!
I remember my 1st day of kindergartern so clearly! I was wearing a little blue dress and an apple applique on the front. My parents walked me the 1/5 blocks to school. i remember being so excited. My parents were too. They stood outside the classroom and were waving at me through the window. I waved back ~~~ and got in trouble!
My favorite back to school memeory was checking to see which classes matched up with my friends.

I always liked finding out who was in my class “section” and finding out who my teacher was!
I will never forget moving into my dorm room on my first day of college. I was SO nervous, but as my parents drove away, I felt that I had finally started growing up.
I also loved shopping for new school clothes. Now it’s my turn to take the kids shopping and I think it’s more fun now.
My absolute favorite memory is buying school supplies and with 7 kids (and one on the way) I still get to look forward to it every year.
I blogged this: https://thriftyfrugalmom.blogspot.com/2009/08/giveaway-roundup.html
My favorite memory is going to pick up the list at school so that I could go and purchase the school supplies. The day you picked up the list was also the day you looked to see whose classroom you would be in.
I love back to school shopping. Getting organized. Binders, folders…I get downright giddy.
My favorite memory is that my mom always gave me a little back to school present. Usually a unique candy type thing. Love it!
My family homeschooled through all grades, so my favorite memory is waking up for my first day of ‘kindergarten’ and trying to put together a really ‘grown-up’ looking outfit before I went to the schoolroom. It was all so new and exciting.
I used to love wearing my new clothes and bringing all my new stuff, it made starting school so exciting!
My favorite back to school memory is going shopping with my mom to buy all of my new school supplies, new clothes and I would always get a new outfit to wear the first day of school.
I just tweeted about it.
This will seem so strange as a favorite memory, but it makes me laugh every time I remember. Probably not as funny hearing it second hand, but it really made my friends and I laugh everytime we reminisced.
The first couple years during my high school attendence the students were allow to walk the halls and congregate before the warning bell. Well, when I went to enter the building my foot got caught under the damaged mat and I went flying through the open doors and landed flat on my face. A “couple” was standing right at that door too. I just laughed and laughed. It was embarrassing, but what’s a girl to do? Also, my friends I walked to school with were embarrassed because they, rather introverted, thought it looked like they pushed me.
My favorite back to school memory is how my parents made my brothers and I pose in the exact same spot in front of the front door every year on the first day of school for a picture.
I tweeted!
My favorite back to school memory is watching my son walk in line to the parent pick location at the end of the first day of Kindergarden. It took all I had not to cry.
Since I was homeschooled, on the first day of school my dad would bring pizza for lunch for my younger brother and I. The we would go to McDonalds for an ice cream cone. We did that every year for 7 years – right up until I finished high school!
Oh my, thank you for that joyful flashback to 15 years ago, when my one and only son was boarding the bus for the first time to go to first grade. My father gave him a plastic school bus and me a poem. As I walked back our 625ft drive way, I cried as I read it.
“The big yellow bus swallowed Nathan today.
I can’t believe he’s on his way.
With waves of laughter
to hide a few tears,
I sent him off smiling,
I’m sure he had fears.
A little beginner,
unsure of his fate….
and a lonely mom,
with a never ending wait.
Soon he’ll be home,
but while he’s away,
Lord watch over him,
and guide his ways.
I loved getting new supplies – pencils erasers, folders, etc. I always looked forward to it 🙂 Not to mention the new outfit for the first day of school.
My grandmother would take all 6 of us kids to Kinney shoe store for our school shoes ,
back in the day when you would have 2 pairs of shoes ,your school shoes and a pair of play shoes
My favorite back to school memory is going shopping for new sneakers, clothes and school supplies. It was like Christmas had come early.
My favorite back to school memory is sending my two girls to school for the first time. They were newly adopted from Ukraine, spoke very little English, and were entering 4th and 5th grade. They were so cute as they put on their new clothes and headed into school. I knew they were scared out of their minds, but they were so brave. Both of them made plenty of friends on the first day and in the 2 years since then, they have done phenomenally well!
I remember going to get school supplies and a few “nice” pieces of chothing and later going to a small ice cream shoppe to get a banana split! So much fun!
One of my favorite back to school memories involve finding out I got the classes I wanted, with the right people, right teacher, and right time of day.
We didn’t have a lot of money growing up so my grandmother would always take us shopping for necessities. School shopping was always the most fun. One year i picked out a Trapper Keeper and thought my life was complete! 🙂 Brand new gym shoes were always the best too, so stiff and comfy! I hope it win!!!
I always liked getting new school supplies.
I loved the night before when I would load up my backpack and layout my new outfit to where to school Even today I love using a brand new notebook because it reminds me of the first day of school.
My favorite back to school memory was having that nervous/ anxious feeling the night before the first day of school. It would stay up all night, prepare my FRESH outfits, fix my hair and make sure I had all that I needed to be ready for the first day. I laugh because those days that was all that I worried about…life was simple
My favorite back to school memory was when all of the schools finally started wearing uniforms….no more drama over buying new school clothes because now everybody has to wear the same thing!
Thanks for the chance to win!
Taking the first day of school pictures on the front steps! We do this now with our own kids!
Every year I couldn’t wait to pick out a new backpack or lunch box. I am now a college student and wish I could afford to get a new one every year just to feel that joy again. It was the one thing that expressed wh I was for the year.
I was always excited to go shopping for new clothes and school supplies!!

We take a first day of school picture by the same tree every year and it’s so fun to look back at how they’ve grown over the past few years. Those back to school outfits were only that clean the first day.
My favorite memory is when I wore the beautiful dress handmade by my mom on the first day of school.

My favorite memory was probably when I was entering high school. I recall my mom buying Seventeen Magazine and I looked at all the trendy clothes. Back then my mom was trying to dress me very stylish but that was just not “in” back then. It was Levi’s and that’s about it. Boy have times changed. I can still recall my pair of penny loafers that I did get, though.
I also love the new stuff I got for back to school back in the days. Also, the anticipation of a brand new school year was another fond memory of mine.
I love meeting all my friends again after a long summer break. It was also intriguing to see how drastically some people change in a matter of 2 months! I also enjoyed the slow lull of the beginning of the school year, when I could actually finish all the homework in one night!
My favorite school memory was when I was starting 8th grade. They hung the class lists up in the school windows and it was so fun to go with my friends and see who’s class we were in!!

I always liked getting the new clothes and school supplies.
I can’t remember that far back anymore, and my kids are too young for school still! But I do remember that my first day of law school, I was quite intimidated when this beautiful, tan, blond woman sat next to me for our first class of the year. The best thing is, she turned out to be super sweet, and became one of my best friends through school!
Thanks for the giveaway, Mercedes!
I also just tweeted the giveaway here.
Now that I homeschool my children, I love choosing the curriculum for the new school year.
I think that all children should be homeschooled that way the parents would be more responsible for their childs future
My favorite part was always the clothes shopping. Getting alot of new things made me feel so special.
There is so many great memories each year starting school for me, it’s hard to pick just one. But if I had to , my first one would be having my grandmother drive almost an hour to our house to pick my sister and me up to go school shopping (my parents just didnt have the means to pay for things like that). Now that she has passed those memories are most precious to me. Second would probably be trying to pick out which outfit I wanted to wear for my first day back to school. I can still remember the excitement of that very first day!
I just love back to school shopping and usually take my kids one at a time to pick out all their stuff. The hardest part is not buying all new stuff each year like backpacks and lunch bags.
I can’t remember ever being very happy about going back to school but this year was fun when my 8 year old got super excited to go buy supplies.

I used to LOVE going back to school each year….I always got one pair of new shoes and 5 new dresses (this was waaaay back in the 60’s!)
I used to love shopping for back to school. I would lay out all my clothes the night before on my bed and decide what to wear on the first day. Great memories.
My best memory had to be shopping for clothes. There were five of
us being raised by a single mom and we all knew money was either short or non-existent. We knew mom helped out by cleaning houses
just to get all of our extras, and even though we may have only gotten two or three new outfits, they were new. Crisp fresh jeans and blouses or t-shirts for the boys we just felt good. After running around all summer in play clothes those new clothes meant so
much when we had so little. So I guess the best memory now looking
back was to know how much my mom did to get us everything we
needed, how much she really cared.
The feel of new shoes and the smell of new school supplies. Getting fitted for my new school uniform with my mom and sister. That butterfly of excitement the day before school starts again.
My favorite memory is shopping for the fabrics to make my school bookcovers. I always wanted fabrics specific to the subject of the text book, and enjoyed the challenge of finding them. My parents probably enjoyed it less…
My favorite memory was going to Walgreens with my mom in the middle of the night and we would fill our cart with things that were on sale for 39 cents with the in-ad coupons. Sometimes they were random things that we didn’t need, but we had so much fun finding them!
Every year we would go shopping for new school shoes and new uniforms.
I loved getting new clothes for school. My mom would take pictures of my brother and I on our front steps every year on the first day of school in our new school clothes. I also loved riding the bus with my best friend on the first day of kindergarten-i wouldn’t let my mom take me because I wanted to be independent and grown up!
I loved back to school time.. New clothes was usually the highlight and new crayons, markers, pencils, notebooks.. but my favorite memory for going back to school was the new yearly Lunch Box.. I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s to very thrifty parents.. So we packed out lunch in our little tin lunch boxes.. My favorite was my Brady Bunch lunchbox… and also I had a Lassie one that was a favorite.. Too bad I don’t have them now. Antiques!!!
Thanks for the fun!

My favorite back to school memory was showing up to the first day of drama class in elementary school. That was the day we found out which play we would be putting on that year! I always hoped it wouldn’t be a musical, but I was excited to find out either way!
My Most favorite back to school memory was back in 2006. And I was having a hard time getting new clothes and school supplies for my daughter because of money problems.. She was kinda down in the dumps because she basically had nothing for school. She only had paper a pencil and an old three-ringed binder. And she had her old clothes. I felt so bad. As I was sitting on the couch one day thinking about what I could do to cheer her up. Thats when I got a knock on the door. To my surprise it was some teachers from my daughters school. They came in with two fairly large boxes filled with clothes and supplies! I called my daughter into the living room and you should have just seen her little face light up. It turns out that a close friend of mine contacted the school and asked if they could help out. I was so glad they did!
Thank-you for bringing back the great memory to me 🙂
My favorite memory is of my nephew. He was getting to finally go on the “big boy bus”. He was incredibly excited and at the very last minute, he ran back hugged us, and then ran back to get on the bus. It was the cutest thing ever.
Thanks so much!
My favorite memory was always getting new shoes. One year I wore penny-loafers all summer and actually grew through the toes of them. I got to get a new pair of tennis shoes for school, the only problem was I had grew so much I grew into the women’s sizes and all the women’s shoes were not very kid friendly looks-wise. Never-the-less, I was still excited about the bright white, generic (to save $$, of course) “Reeboks” I got to wear to school that fall.
Well this year I am hoping that by some miracle I will be able to start a back to school tradition with my daughter.I know that growing up my sister and I would get so excited about going shopping for new clothes, a new backpack and all the supplies that were on our list. Mom would take us and one thing I always will remember is being able to buy new shoes and having to wait to wear them so they would remain brand new for the first day of school. Well I dont know if that will be a possibility this year for my own daughter. She is 5 and this year she will be starting Kindergarten. She is so excited and feels so big but it breaks my heart when she sees all of her friends getting new clothes, shoes , backpacks and supplies then she asks me when will I take her to go shopping so she can get her things as well. I just dont know how to tell my 5 year old daughter that this year , her first year of school that mommy and daddy dont have any money. How do you explain to a 5 year old that daddy got laid off and because of the economy daddy cant find a new job and has had to go back to school full time so that next year we can do all the things that are needed. We have tried to get supplies but I went to 2 different school supply giveaways. The first I waited 2 hours in the heat and when it was my turn I was told me they had run out. The second one I got up at 5:30 am today and waited in line till 8am and when I got to the tent they told me my daughter had to be present, even though I had her social security card and school list. Well this morning she wasnt feeling good so I decided to leave her home with my husband and not make her wait with me. I went home and picked her up and when I got back they had already given everything away. I have always pictured this first year to be a year for all of us to remember especially my daughter but I am afraid the memory will not be a good one.
I always loved getting new school supplies. The smell of new crayons, a new book bag and empty notebooks waiting to be filled! I still walk through the school supply aisles at the store.
My favorite memory is looking at the first day of school pics of my children. How much they grow from year to year.

My favorite Back to School memory is picking out the outfit I was going to wear on the first day back to school! I would spend countless hours in my bedroom trying on my new school clothes, agonizing over what to wear. Those were some good times 🙂
Getting a new pair of jeans.

My Mom always took our picture as we walked up the driveway to meet the bus on the first day of school.
My favorite memory was picking out my outfit for the first day and I still love it with my own 4 children.
My favorite memory is going to my fathers house the weekend before school, my sister and i would wear our first back to school outfit.
My faovorite back to school memory is getting ready for third grade and (FINALLY) being old enough to have a TrapperKeeper. (I thought I was SOOOO mature!)
My favorite memory is of my kids getting their picture taken on the front steps of our house in their new clothes and shoes, all dolled up and excited, I did this every year of their school years, now I do the same for the grandkids.
My parents were on a limited budget but were able to scrimp and save in order to send me to private school. I never realized when I was young what a sacrifice it was. I had to wear dresses everyday and most of mine were hand me downs from a neighbor but every year before school started my mom would take me to our local JCPenny with it’s heavy doors and wood floors and I would get 2 new outfits. You would have thought I just won the lottery. We would make a day of it, trying on several outfits in an attempt to pick the best ones. I would also get 1 pair of new shoes. After getting my outfits and shoes my mom would take me to Kresge for school supplies then we would finish our special day at Saunders for a hot fudge Sunday. As my mom is aging showing signs of dementia I realize even more what treasures those memories are. Now with my own children and a limited budget I still try to make this a special time. It doesn’t involve JCPenny, usually bargin shopping for nice brands at our local thrift stores and watching the papers for 1cent specials, but we make it a game and have a ball. I just hope that when my boys get older they will look back like I do and treasure these fun times.

My favorite memories were the new fall clothes and the hot September days of wearing those clothes in classrooms without air conditioning! I also remember walking to school on a path through the woods (in a Washington, D.C. suburb, mind you, and this was back in the 70s) and the change of the leaves as the summer came to an end.
One of my most vivid back to school memories has to be my first day of school. I was four and everyone else was five so the teacher said it would be ok if my mom stayed a little longer than the other moms. My parents had told me over and over to give it chance and that i would make friends and eventually i would like school but that it would be a bit scary at first. I was prepared ready to fight this school place they were making me go to. I walked into the big scary kindergarden class took one look at the sparkly pictures, kids playing, games everywhere, and i let go of my mom’s hand. And just as I joined the other kids I turned to see my teacher comforting my mom. My mom was crying. To this day i love her for that memory.
There is nothing better than a new box of crayons with a sharpener on the back! I still love picking those out, now with my kids. Although, this year my daughter’s list insisted that we only get the box of 24. What’s up with that?
just tweeted about this…

I absolutely loved the “newness” of everything – new notebooks, pencils, sharpeners, crayons etc. Also, shopping for new uniforms every year, especially the year I entered Fourth Grade and the female students were now allowed to wear uniform “pantsuits” instead of just the pullover skirt. Also, each year my mother would allow me to buy a school shoe with just a little bit taller heel – that was also exciting – I had come a long way from Buster Brown!
