A couple of months ago I shared with you that people were having problems getting full value of their coupons at Target. Coupons were being adjusted down by the register in some instances. Well, that problem is still there and I am sad to say that there is a new problem now.
The new problem pertains to gift card deals and manufacturer coupons. Kerry over at Totally Target explains the nitty gritty of this new issue here. But this is the Cliff Notes version. In a given Target Gift Card deal, the register will automatically deduct twice the value of the gift card offer and consider it a manufacturer coupon. This is an “invisible” deduction, but one the register does nonetheless, that impacts the way you can use manufacturer coupons on gift card deals. So let’s take the current Glade Deal:
Buy five Glade Products and get one $5 Target Gift Card. The math works like this:
Buy five items ($2.99*5 = 14.95)
– less $10 invisible deduction at the register (twice the value of the $5 Target Gift Card)
=$4.95 this is the amount you can apply manufacturer coupons against. So if you were going to deduct $6 worth in manufacturer coupons, the register will only let you deduct $4.95
So, yeah! this doesn’t make me happy either! But I have good news, if you have other items in your order that the $10 invisible credit can be applied against your order will have no problems. So, if you plan on doing gift card deals at Target you need to add extra items to your order. For a lot of you this may not be an issue as you may pick up clearance clothing or a gallon of milk. But for those of you that hit target for the gift card deals you will need to plan accordingly.
I don’t understand why Target is making things so difficult for their customers. I understand companies need to make money but there are easier ways to stop losses than by playing tricks at the register.
Thanks Kerry!
